Thank's Ken for a great build. I'am trying to build a launch from the plans from the book The american sailing navy and I am useing your tips to build the inside of the boat. Thank you. P.S. My wife was watching also and she said you changed you gray chair out I said no . I like your chair .Ithank I will get me one. thanks again
Excellent work.
Just a quick camera tip: if you use powertools with a plane of workspace, like that jigsaw, place the camera 90-120 degrees from where jus stand to your dominant hands side, you are the least likely to cover up your work with your body, giving us the best view.
Thanks. I will incorporate your great tip in future videos! Ken
Excellent work. Am looking to build this kit, but feel now an easier planking kit to start.
Great work
Thanks for the complement. Planking is one of those tasks that have been difficult for me. I have learned by lots of practice and study. The biggest help for me was the Nautical Research Guild Half-Hull Planking Kit. thenrgstore.org/products/half-hull-planking-project
I made a short video about this on my channel.
And there are many build logs on Model Ship World that detail how it is assembled.

Many thanks for the video,, I've built many wooden ships over years and the one tool that I couldn't live without is my mini circular table saw,,only a suggestion but it saves so much work,,thanks again
thanks for the encouragement, and I think you are right. I've been looking at mini table saws. Especially to cut my own wood, when I run out of what stock is provided in the kits. - Ken
Лучший!!! Очень удобно смотреть такие относительно короткие видео!
Really glad I found this channel sir.... so informative! I’m gonna start building the ORCA from jaws once I’ve finished painting my house
Thanks. And the ORCA sounds like a cool boat to have on your shelf! Great movie too.
I only discovered your channel last night but I got to say, I am very impressed with your patience in making these model boats. I can tell you are very experienced in model making and must commend you for your efforts. Well done sir!
You are too kind. I am still learning both how to make model boats, and to be patient. But both skills are a blessing, so I will continue to work on my growth. God Bless - Ken
Holy cow there are a lot of planks do bend for this boat! Nice work!
No kidding. But I learned a lot. When I finish my current build (and post a video) I found and plan to buy a "half hull" planking kit with instructions to improve planking skills
thenrgstore.org/collections/plans-and-projects/products/half-hull-planking-project. Maybe I can get good some day!
Ken
Such a nice piece! A good source of inspiration for my channel.
Glad to hear that! Thanks for the encouragement.
Great video. I learned a lot. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
I make a past with sawdust an glue to fill holes on my model. Enjoy your channel.
Thanks. Yes, I have found that the sawdust trick does work real well!
Ken
I like your solutions to problems. You have done a great job of it.
Glad you like them! It is always fun to find answers, whether I find it on-line or figure thinks on my own. Do you build boats?
@@ken_boats I am building my first which is a 1/12 Bristol pilot cutter. I love those boats and thier history.
@@ken_boats Hi Ken. Yes I am building a 1/12 scale Bristol Pilot Cutter. I am building a Thames Sailing barge too from scratch.
Great job Ken
Thanks 👍
Nice work. You could haven been a teacher, enjoy watching and learning.
Wow, thanks for the complement.
Ken
I enjoy your channel. The way you talk is plain start forward with a lot of common sense. I like that. I am just learning how to build model boats. To fill cracks I use bondo it works well. Some you tuber (two of them) use bondo so I tried it an it works well. A modeler I watch on you tube is Tom Lorea on you tube is excellent to watch. I think his name is spelled wrong. the spelling is wrong
Awesome! Thank you!
Take sawdust an glue mix together makes great puddly. Sawdust from the same wood you are working on will give you the best result.
Thanks. I used this on several boats since - Ken
Thank you for showing the process of building the boats. I can't wait until your next project. Do you have set your mind on a new boat/ship ?
Not sure yet. I bought a kit for the "Spray". An oyster sloop which Joshua Slocum rebuilt and single-handedly sailed around the world in 1898. I loved the book. It seems like a simpler build, where I can focus on my craftsmanship.
I am waiting on the delivery of the Mamoli kit. It has a more complicated mast and rigging system for which i am not yet skilled, but something I need to improve upon.
I'll probably choose a boat and start in October
Ken
@@ken_boats I'm looking forward to this.
@@juloedtb1420 I am as well.
just found your channel very informative
could i ask you the name of your boat stand and where you bought it
thanks
Thanks. It's called the Keel Klamper, by Amati. I added a steel base with rubber feet for stability.
What are you using for a varnish? Is it a satin finish?
I brush on a satin interior Polyurethane by Varathane
The correct spelling is ( Tom Lauria ) he is on you tube. He is very GOOD.
I looked at his channel. Very interesting. I will study it over the next month.
Ken
you called it the captains gig,
the gig is the smallest of the boats a ship of the line would have, used to just transport the one person.
this is the exact opposite: the largest of the boats.
You are quite right! I don't know why I mis-spoke and used that term. I went back to the kit instructions and drawings and they used the term "Long Boat". Good catch.
Ken
Amigo, onde está o link para aquisição deste barco?
A reference is made to the seller in the description below the video.
Manufactured by Panart Mantua and purchased from Premier Ship Models
I bought it from
premiershipmodels.com.au/product-category/model-boat-kits/
but I think it is sold by many distributors.
Search for "HMS Victory Launch"
I hope this helps
Ken
I stand corrected! when I looked at the Premier Ship Models site, they seem to no longer sell it, and a general web search did not find any other sellers either. :-( So I'm sorry, but I cannot tell you where to buy it. Keep looking. Panart Mantua may make another "batch" of kits one day. I am waiting for the Medway Longboat to come back on the market, since it is currently out of stock.
Hi new sub were do you buy your models thx you
I used to search for websites that sold model boats and then looked for those boats that are in my skill range. But lately I have found another site that is most useful: modelshipworld.com/
they have lots of discussion groups and build logs. One discussion group is titled General Ship Model Kit Discussions.
Ken
@@ken_boats thx
Why'd you stop???
Stop what? If you mean creating videos, I can only find time to build one boat per year. I am just about finished with the hull of Joshua Slocum's boat the Spray. I have started a build log if you want to see the progress,
modelshipworld.com/topic/26305-spray-by-ken_2-bluejacket-shipcrafters-%E2%80%93-38%E2%80%9D-1%E2%80%99-or-135/
but I will publish another RUclips video when I am done (maybe early March 2021).
