  • Brand new release from Highland Park. They have brought back the 21 year old. This time its bottled at 46% ABV and really shows off the distillery characteristics. Watch the video for Mike and Narbe's tasting notes and score.

    I remember paying $152 in Nov of 2016 from TWE. I will not be paying about $300 for the HP 21 if its a little better than the HP 18 that cost's about $130. You can thank the 25% tariff imposed on single malt by our great leader. Great to see you guys back . Great review.

      I hear ya bud. We were able to escape the tariffs with this one and paid less than $300 but I can def see how the going USA price of $330 plus tax is way too high. Thanks bud, Cheers!

    Hey guys, I guess you’ve tried the old bottle of 21 as well, what do you think about that? I found a shop that has new 21 for 300$ and older one for 380$ and wondering if the old one worth? Cheers

    I would LOVE to do a vs with the new viking 21, 25, & 30 vs the old classic bottle labels. Interesting they went to a flat 46% for the 21 and 25, but didn't for the new 30.

      @maltreviews  4 года назад +1

      Yah, we haven't tried the new 2019 30 and 40 year old yet but i assume the older bottling's are better. Not sure why they did that with the ABV. I also wonder if they used older whiskies than the age statement for the 30 since the price jumps so much.

    I’m glad you guys got a hold of this bottle as I’ve been looking at it. I was a big fan of the old 21 which was around $180 and I’ve been debating pulling the trigger on this one. It sounds about how I would expect but I have to ask, do you think the peat level is a little higher in this one similar to the Valknut?

    • @maltreviews
      @maltreviews  4 года назад

      I have not tried the Valknut but the peat level is pleasant and def not too much.
      IL be releasing the new 2019 25 year old for you soon bud.

    I am so weary of these new Highland Park releases. Having experienced first-hand how far the 18 year old has fallen -- right off of a cliff as far as I am concerned. I bought one bottle of the Viking Pride and that will be the last. I very recently managed to find two bottles of the 2016 release of the 25 year old and bought them immediately. I also have a line on a possible third bottle and if I can I will buy that one too. Also got a 30 year old. These will probably be the last bottles of Highland Park I ever buy.
    I can appreciate your take on this one, but I have gotten to the point with this distillery that I won't buy any newer releases of Highland Park unless I can taste it first. This stuff costs way too much money to take a chance on it.

      I understand as their style has def changed. You get more peat now and more balance over all but that wow factor has gone away considering the price of the bottles. Or at least when comparing to the older bottles like you said.

    Great review! I agree $350us for a 88 rated scotch it too much.

      Thanks VV! Yah you def have to pay a premium. We got it for a little less in the UK but still priced high for sure.

    Need to try this one. Kind of afraid of the new whiskies/prices HP has released. Might just save my money and open one of my older version 21s.

      I hear ya. I was too curious and decided to try it. It was exactly what I expected it to be but was of course hoping for a little better. But its excellent quality.

      Yes, I picked up 2 of the last bottles at 47.5 abv earlier this year when they were reduced to $344 ( low for Ontario ) so I am looking forward to trying the older one. I don't know why HP didn't actually raise the abv a bit on the new one to meet today's demand.

    Thanks for the review. I bought mine a few weeks ago. Just below USD 300 here in Sweden as well. I’m hoping 88/100 for you might be 90/100 for us mortals. I also bought the new Glendronach 1993 selected by scotchwhisky.com. Really hope it lives up to the expectations... cheers!

      Very nice Johan. You will def enjoy this 21, its good HP for sure. I have heard nice things about that glendronach. Let us know how it is when you try it. Cheers!

    I recently found the 25 sitting on the shelf of a local store to the point the wood box was flaking and swollen from climate changes as I live in nyc the owner gave it to me for a steal as he wanted to get rid of it. Not a bottle I will be able to afford again at going rate so I’m savoring every drop.

    I enjoyed the 21 and older distillery bottlings from Highland Park 10-15 years ago but now I just don't think they justify the price.

      @@maltreviews Ya, Macallan is just a cash cow for pushing out under aged whisky that is overpriced.
