- Many of us remember the endless days of childhood summers, filled with ice-cream stained t-shirts and baseball cards chattering away in bicycle spokes. Longing to relive the summer when he finally retired his old bicycle, Davin Reckow invites gasoline to the nostalgia party with the Kawasaki KE100.
In this episode of Redline Rebuild, he rejuvenates the two-stroke motorcycle engine that served up freedom and independence for many young riders. Davin overhauls the dual-sport’s drivetrain, preparing, once again, to hit those Traverse City, Michigan, two-tracks.

Love the stop motion that was added in this time!
When I was a teenager, I was riding a Kawasaki Trail Boss (illegally) on the road and got chased by a cop. I got away by heading off road into a hay field and then pasture kind of like this video. I hid the bike, took my tee shirt off and walked home. Turns out, my parents were out sitting on the steps and witnessed the whole thing. My father complimented me on my escape and noted that it was a good move to take off the tee shirt. My cousin happened to be walking along the road and also witnessed this. After the cop lost me, he went back and asked my cousin if he knew who I was. My cousin said, “Never saw him before in my life”.
Family. 😁
Not everyone got that kind of family
@@myfirstcrappyvideobilly fuckin true 😆
Today on things that totally never happened...
Haha I love those getaway stories like that
Hahaha
This channel is so underrated.
Credit where credit is due! These are the BEST videos! Please keep making them!
When the bike goes around the gate in the grass that really hit a soft spot by the way! Keep up the good work!
I love those time lapses
OOOHHHHH!!!
I’l have two number 9 a number 9 large a number 6 with extra dip a number 7 two 45 one with cheese and a large soda
Émile Robitaille I'll have two number 9's a number 9 large, number six with extra dip, number 7, two number 45's one with cheese and a large soda
big smoke jaja yeahhhh
So with this ke100 maybe cj can keep up with the damn train!
Lovin the variety of the engines you show on the rebuilds & the humour in this vid.
I love how Davin is so dirverse he could fix a washer and dryer, and with the efforts of the filming/editing crew I'd watch it. Good job guys.
Really appreciate all the work that goes into a production like this!
Graduating high school in an hour but this is more important
Jonas Devenport congrats man.
ZX6R#366 I appreciate it.
Congrats. Welcome to adulting. Hope you have a fun ride.
Gotta enjoy your last bits of childhood while you can
Congrats dude! Don't forget to wear helmet ;)
Your timelaps videos are getting really good , I LOVE WATCHING THEM ,keep them coming .
Holy crap. The quality of this video blew me away. All the time lapse, slow motion, some hyperlapse. Man that must have been a ton of work. And the bike is also just epic
This was my first motorcycle in 1985, when I turned 15. Words just can't describe the fun and freedom one feels when getting their very first ride!
Liking before watching cause you know the time, skill and effort that goes into these vids.👏
Aww yeah i was waiting over 2 monts for this time lapse. Engine rebuilds are the best!
That filled my heart with joy! Thank you for bringing a smaller* project through your new garage! It is they way we envision our projects!👍
What a great way to start my day! Thanks again.. these time-lapse re-builds are wonderful!
These videos are awesome!! They are therapeutic for me. Keep them coming!
Great job, you have outdone yourselves in the editing
I am amazed by the amount of work it would take to make a video like this, and the end result is spectacular! I am so glad I came across this channel, which truly deserves lots of subscribers and respect. Glad to see another happily rebuilt 2 stroke back on the road :)
NICE! KE100 was my first bike as a kid. Rode that thing a gazillion miles, wrecked it a ton of times, rode it on a National MX track and could clear a 100 foot step-up, even raced it (yes - 50 mile woods enduro style) and it never let me down. Was fun beating old guys on their CR500s back in the day squirting through really tight wooded sections. Love the video, brings back memories indeed!
hagerty is a jedi, he uses force. long life on the dark side of mechanics
More motorcycles!!!!!!!

the efforts exhausted and creativity that go into these time lapse vids never ceases to amaze. thanks so much for keeping up the hard work in the shop, and on here for us to enjoy! Anxiously waiting for the next time lapse installment!
I just watched your total rebuild of the 396 for the beautiful chevy, I really enjoyed the video. Best entertainment by far. Thanks for your excellent work.
I was waiting for you guys to do something awsome like this
Job well done. One more of them lives on.
Fun bike and great editing. Many of us had two stroke bikes growing up.
Video magic made rebuild awesome. Thanks for sharing 👊👍
Gave a mates KE 175 a spin in '78 while mine was being repaired. My god the grin I had after that ride, the bike was a total balls out nut job animal!!! Loved it! The KE 100 wouldn't have been that far behind, Kawasaki's were renowned for not hanging about. If you had one back then, I bet you wish you had kept it👿
Davin is such a legend
I didn't think I wanted to watch this, but it was good.
Just saw this....
I have a 1972 RV 125 from my dad. It sat in his pole barn for 30 years..
I cleaned it up and put some fresh gas. Kicked it a couple of times and boom!!! It started. I'm thinking about redoing the entire bike but haven't had time...
Loved watching you do your thing on this one...
I love the smell of 2 stroke.
There's a touching KTM video that put a tear in my eye when watching. It's called "The Power Of Sound" 😍
I sure do miss the simplicity and the lightweight of the 2 Stroke...the noise was also a plus.
Timinator62 don't forget the 2 stroke smell
The smell....the noise....perfect
and the occasional piston seizures gave emotion to the riding experience
Without a muffler they sound like jet engines.
When you love 2 storkes you don't call it noise, its pure music for the ears.
gotta keep the 2 smokes alive!
OGAstra 2-smoke indeed. Gotta keep them Prius owners triggered. 😆
Greta will be mad :)
These guys have been doing a great job in giving the viewers what they want, which is the "money shot" of starting the engine, and now seeing some running and driving/riding really makes the rebuild process satisfying. There are few things more fulfilling than rebuilding something and then getting to use it.
This guy is a good tech. I'm a journeyman auto tech and I could learn alot from a guy like this
Did I see a carb. Inside the engine I did I did see a carb in the engine
Under the side cover. Very unfortunate placement.
Leave it to Kawasaki to place the carb inside the engine case
Carb was there to support disk based intake system used by kawasaki
It's because it's a rotary valve engine, not a reed valve design. Pro's and cons of each.
@@rogeronslow1498 kinda neat ,I've never done it but changing the timing is as easy as grinding on the disc shaped valve.
I had a 76 for a few weeks before it blew up.
I thought it was kinda neat to see the disc turn with the side cover off and throttle open
Hit like if you are 2 stroke fan
Deepak gs, I'm a 2 stroke fan of: chainsaws, string trimmers, outboard motors, and, push mowers...never had much luck with 2 stroke dirtbikes or 4 wheelers. The one exception is a banshee, of course. Lol
2 stroke lawnmowers are the best!
Turd Ferg I've got an old snapper with a robin 2 smoke, and a mid 80s lawn boy with the omc 2 smoke that's electric start. Both are self propelled, I might add. Lol
Yamaha DT 125 FTW!! 😂
Vol deMort chill guys I have yamaha rx 135
Finally someone washing the engine before disassembly (not the parts of it afterwards...). Thumbs up!
That's awesome! I rebuilt a '79 KE100 this spring. Such a fun little bike.
Wow this is the 1st time I saw a carburetor inside a crank case. It's weird but kinda amazing.
They're called Rotary Valve engines.
😍😍 more videos like this💪🏻😍
My favorite Hagerty time lapse so far! Riding around the closed gates onto backwoods paths are exactly what these bikes were made for!
I've got a 73" Suzuki TS185 in similar original condition that I need to do this to.
People who are able to do this kind of work are absolutely amazing. I have no idea how they do it.
It's not difficult, just love what you do. that's all...
HOLYSMOKES
Bintang Sena LMFAO (if I really got what you meant)
Had a old Kawasaki I found in a farm shed like this , it was dark blue and carby in the same spot . Got it going and went like the CLAPPERS .
The fun stop motion antics are getting better and more playful, makes this already entertaining video even better!
Don't stop making that, the people love you for doing it that way you do.
Greetings from germany,
Please do some more motorcycles or two strokes.
You had a great choice in choosing your engines well in that series.
I'm a sucker for stop motion
Gooood job
A labor of love, artfully filmed. Most would not even consider restoring such a modest machine to such a degree; that makes you a breed apart.
These time lapse videos are great! This might be the best one yet. Creative, from the uncoiling drive chain to the creeping carburetor. Side note, I've never seen a carb housed in the case like that.
Vintage Wiseco.
0:28 I've never seen a motorcycle engine with the carburetor mounted like that
It's a rotary disc valve 2 stroke, pretty interesting setup, and amazingly simple.
This is one of the best RUclips channels - car professionals and great cinematographers. You are really inspiring to lots of people
My Kc100 i had in the 80s accelerated like a madman until 60mph then just sat there not a penny more ,I loved that little beauty,so lightweight and slim. 💯😎
please more bikes.
Never seen a carburettor inside the engine case before like that. 😲
Awesome work. I really acknowledge skilled people and this is like concert...Its awesome !
I found a junked 1978 KE100 back in 1997 with a seized up engine. bought it for less than $30 and it took me 3 months to source out all new old stock factory parts (engine parts, exhaust, wiring harness, switches etc.) and another 4 months to fully restore the bike on my own except for the machining and the sandblast and repaint of the chassis. Now, I still use it for offroad, trail and leisure rides and for some quick errands. i never had a single major breakdown at all.
Ha, i thought it was me but that throttle body did walk away. Apparently 1 person didn't appreciate it 😂
On these older engines, they use carbs rather than throttle bodies and injectors :)
😂 Thanks. I just won $20!! I knew a man would correct me. But just so YOU know, carbureted engines have throttles as well.
TRD jojo all engines have throttles... its throttle bodies that only fuel injected engines have
Yea i know that even carbed engines have throttle valves in the form of butterfly or slide valves, but only fuel injected engines have throttle bodies (and injectors)
How da fak does the fuel get inside the cylinder? I've never seen a carb down in the crank case like that.
vthammerman im more conserned about where that carb gets air?
magic, for those pretenders of motorcycle knowledge.
@@reinorekkakuski2312 ikr like tf
@@zazx560 The engine cases are cast with an intake path above the gearset, sealed and separated from each other, over to the side case, where the carb is.

Just awesome, your redline rebuilds are some of the most underrated videos on youtube!
You guys do an outstanding job with the cinematography. I love the funny litttle things you threw in.
That is a sound that brings back many happy memories!
I'd know that 2-stroke sound anywhere. My buddy would give me a ride to high school on his KE125 almost every day, until we got cars to drive. Thanks for the blast from the past.
Love it! This was my first bike! Thanks for the memories!
I took a small engines class in high school where we had to bring in our own projects. After we finished my buddy's snow blower we needed a new project. I remembered we had an old bike that had been sitting in our garage for 20 years. A 1976 ke100. It was parked because the clutch was fried. Took the jug off and cleaned it up, tore apart the clutch and replaced it with kevlar plates, cleaned out the carb, and cleaned up the bike. 9 years later it still purrs like a kitten and I love cruising back roads with it.
My favorite mechanical channel ever. Davin is the man, I'd love a job working in that shop
Amazing time laps!! The smallest details like him putting the engine back whilst the table cleans itself up woah
Xq el vulon del piñon me gasta la punta dla kaguasaqui
Every one of these rebuild time lapses is amazing. Nice work
this bike has unique place for its carburetor, what an awesome video sir
Ive watched every single time lapse engine video. I NEED MORE! They are pretty good. And very interesting
Amazing time lapse video. The more amazing thing is the engineer can rebuilt this.
Fantastic! That carb had a life of its own!
Of course, like! Wonderful bike and cool video! Greetings from 2T classic fans from Russia!
How have I never seen this, love the Kawisaki KE/KH motorcycles!
You just got yourself a new subscriber. I loved the editing of this video and I’ve been having an obsession with dirt bikes and trail bikes lately. What’s not to love?
Jared - Thank you for watching!
A mchanic working in his bare hands. Gotta like it. Beautifilul work.
Been waiting for so long for more of these time lapse videos, keep up the good work!
Absolutely one of the best time lapses I have ever seen great job guys!! And I have never seen a carb in the engine before very interesting design
Rotary, and the carb was sealed , run that puppy partially submerged - BTW some of those bikes were 10 speed
These videos are so addictive. Awesome.
Wow It made me hold my breath. Another Awesome time lapse, nice editing!
Good to see this video!!!
I had dismantled the same engine in the morning!!!!
Happy to see that RUclips is ready my mind!!!!
The production of these videos is always amazing
I love these rebuilds. Please keep doing them.
I really enjoy every second of this time lapse videos, great job
My first bike. Saved up to get it as a 16 year old in '88. Great memories!
How can you do everything alone! What level of knowledge and skills are required for that! I am truly amazed!
Stop motion capturing videos are the coolest... still can only give 1 like... very impressive...
Time lapse super, also you won't change stock... Excellent...
Another great video...thanks for sharing! Davin...you da man!
My dad owned this type of motorcyle , KE125 model, very good scrambler love it!
i love how y’all film these time lapses
i had one when i was a teenager. haven't heard that sound in almost 30 years. it brings me back.
Hagerty time lapses make every petrol head's day better! Absolutely luv it!
Killer music, flawless editing, awesome bike, well done Hagerty.
Another Nice time-lapses video from hagerty..good job team!!!
As usual a great video!! Thanks Davin!! Merry Christmas!!
