@Ryan Jachtmann Aren't you a cynical bastard. Thank God we have you interrupting fun conversations to make sure everyone is "aware" of this sacred knowledge you must have over us.
I'm loving Theros for giving us a ton more strength in Mono Devotion - both this deck and black are really strong right now :) Keep up the great vids man, love them :)
Very excited to see your other creations. Not sure why but your decks always feel very solid to play with. And Blue Lotus is my new favorite so I have to thank you.
The blessing is also pretty good with Heliod. You can target the enchantment to put a counter on it when you gain life, which makes it sacrifice itself.
You actually make a good point cinderheart. Most, if not all enchantment removal is destroy effects. Only black seems to have the ability to snipe the enchantments before they hit the field (the remorse card that exiles from hand and fin lurker). I’m surprised to see no green decks yet taking advantage of the meta.
I know you said in your video you couldn't get the more aggro builds to work well but I've been working on an aggro/lifegain version of white devotion with some success. It relies on the pridemate/Ajani/Heliod synergies to overwhelm the opponent. Here's the list for anyone interested: Deck 4 Ajani's Pridemate (WAR) 4 3 Ajani, Strength of the Pride (M20) 2 4 Alseid of Life's Bounty (THB) 1 4 Castle Ardenvale (ELD) 238 2 Giant Killer (ELD) 14 3 Daxos, Blessed by the Sun (THB) 9 4 Charmed Stray (WAR) 8 2 Gideon Blackblade (WAR) 13 4 Healer's Hawk (GRN) 14 4 Heliod, Sun-Crowned (THB) 18 2 Conclave Tribunal (GRN) 6 3 Linden, the Steadfast Queen (ELD) 20 17 Plains (ELD) 253 2 Unbreakable Formation (RNA) 29 2 Arcanist's Owl (ELD) 206 It has a similar sort of redundancy to your Black/White Lifegain aggro deck from a couple weeks ago but instead of 4 bloodthirsy aerialists we're rocking 4 Heliods. The new white lifegain one drop makes buffing your pridemate's even more profitable by giving them protection to keep alive or get through some troublesome blockers. Any thoughts on Banishing Light versus Conclave Tribunal? Or feedback in general?
I've been experimenting with trying to fit 1 or 2 Angelic Gift into a deck relatively similar to this. Giving flying to a beefed up Pridemate can be really effective.
I made a deck almost identical to this except I run Visitation instead of Guidemother, and I two copies of two other cards whose names I can't remember instead of the owl.
Skyler Blumenthal I agree that it’s win more. I just have a soft spot as I didn’t play magic for a four year gap and it was the first mythic I opened when I got back into it
I just realized I had this video disliked somehow and fixed it. Makes me wonder how many of the dislikes on videos with few dislikes are just people accidentally pressing it and not realizing it
I made a Blue white version (actually I made several decks) of the blue deck you showed off yesterday. Boy howdy I think we are on to something. It is just arena is terrible to manage when you draw almost your entire deck. Mainly you need the 4 lotus, 4 Kiora, 4 of the 2 drop untapper, 3 Gadwick, and at least 3 of the oracles. The owls help but the rest is flexible.
Elspeth, Undaunted Hero. Works well in this sort of deck for the wincon. Oh and Flicker of Fate is probably a better addition than Charming Prince... you don't get the one devotion... but it's a dozen times more likely to cheaply duplicate your hoplight than Charming prince and has a lot of other utility.
35:29 IMO You could block with Tomik, because if you only have the owl, you still have enough devotion Heliod says: not creature if devotion less than five, but you devotion is (owl(4) + Heliod(1)) is five which is not less than five
How do you play this deck against Temur Elementals? They can go wide like this deck can but their pump spells are more reliable. They can keep bouncing your cards to slow you down and remove counters while they get their combo in place and then they play arkoan war and completely wipe you out. If that doesn't fail they usually use a couple agents of treachery that they flicker in and out to steal your key cards and deny you the devotion bonuses. Seems like it hard counters this deck.
Just ran this deck but didn't have any Heliods. So I swapped him out for Haktos and splashed red. It works really well with Exaltation because it buffs his 1 toughness in combat making him less likely to die vs chump blockers.
@@LegenVD Finding Haktos difficult to work around with mana. Another plan, splash blue instead of red and put in Thrassa- then bounce the Owl to help find Exalt, or bounce Hoplite. The owls help with devotion for both colours to get Thassa out. I ended up going: 4 Hawks, 4 Daxos, 4 Birth of Meletis, 2 Ardenvale Tactician, 2 Thassa, 4 Owls, 2 Cavalier of Dawn, 4 Hoplite, 2 Elspeth Conquers Light. I just tested it and ended up rocking over 100 life from the Daxos, Thrassa, Hoplite combo
Exaltation is good when your deck can create tokens. Of course you already knew this, but if Hoplite is your only token creation in the deck, having exaltation does not really benefit it.
Overall, though I'd say if you're REALLY new, then find something that you have a lot of fun playing. If this deck is it (and it could be) go for it. When I first played, CGB did an Esper deck that I just loved to play and still do. If you already have other decks you enjoy, I'd probably hold out on spending wilds on too many copies of cards that might not be useful in other decks. I wasted a lot of wilds to complete a deck that turned out to be not fun to play.
I always wonder what is the reasoning of including Tomik in decks, as it's not that great of a card stat-wise and its ability is very situational. Here of course the double white in the mana cost makes sense for devotion purposes, but it's probably the only deck so far where Tomik can fit somehow.
@@lordfifth4520 yeah the stats are good compared to the cost, I just wonder why would someone choose it over, say, Hushbringer, with a way more useful ability even though it hits for less. I'm not the best at deckbuilding though, so there's that.
@@m4p0 this deck has some etb effects so hushbringer would be double edged sword. Like the 2 mana guy when a creature enters/dies,you gain life and 4 mana guy who makes tokens equal to your devotion. One of the good synergy this deck has is that life gain guy with heliod which puts + counters when you gain life. With both of them on the board,if you play that token generator guy,you can put that many + counters to your creatures.
@@lordfifth4520 the issue is not with this deck, I was speaking generally and not just for Hushnbringer (that's the first 2 CMC white creature that came to mind)

Love this build
This deck’s synergies are beautiful.
I think unbreakable formation can be pretty good there. And if we are talking about sideboard options, Gideon's Sacrifice comes to mind.
I'm loving Theros for giving us a ton more strength in Mono Devotion - both this deck and black are really strong right now :) Keep up the great vids man, love them :)
I cant seem to get black to work
I need to add divine visitation in this deck! Looks super fun!

I do love how it appears the new cards are already being integrated into the meta.
You sound really energetic in this video. Loved that
thank you for the consistently awesome content!
The blessing is also pretty good with Heliod. You can target the enchantment to put a counter on it when you gain life, which makes it sacrifice itself.
Black white could be interesting then. Is there anything else that targets enchantments that isn't destruction?

Great deck. I'm going to try it out tonight. A lot of great matchups as well.
Had a hard time against this deck in the ladder, great games man, thanks!
Would divine visitation be a card you would consider adding in this deck in place of something to make angels instead of soldiers
One copy could be fun!
I made a deck almost identical to this except I run Visitation instead of Guidemother, and I two copies of two other cards whose names I can't remember instead of the owl.
I'd run elspeth over it, visitation is a bad top deck
Visitation is pretty win-more tbh.

Quite an interesting deck that has a lot of synergy.

Hey, great little deck, instead of charming prince i put in 4x Linden's, super powerful card when combined with Heliod.

1 or 2 divine visitations? works well with the lands . and can be found with the owl. and whats better than 5x 1/1 ? 5x 4/4 flying.
Elspeth, Undaunted Hero. Works well in this sort of deck for the wincon. This is the only white Heliod list I've seen since the set released that had made me think to myself "This deck looks good".

In historic mono white life gain is insane. Especially with Heliod.
It’s fun to play white/blue and thassa then blink the hoplite
Orzhov control based around doom with devotion to black and white payoffs are sweet asf
"Shock on the Hawk" LVD, The Poet
I’ve been having a ton of fun with a heliod brawl deck
Don't tell me you paid the 10k gold (again)?
Of course not - arenabrawl.net
Could Okehame Ranger find a place in this deck? 4 White mana symbols and it has a tap for anthem ability
The 4-drops are a little too crowded.
Exaltation is good when your deck can create tokens. Of course you already knew this, but if Hoplite is your only token creation in the deck, having exaltation does not really benefit it.
There is tension between making tokens and having a lot of Devotion.
What?! Non-combo Heliod deck? Impossible.
Lvd you should play a big red good stuff deck! Just a fun thought
Mono black looks so strong every time I see it
How about one or two shadowspears to get past opposing creatures with an exalted creature?
Could be serviceable.
