- Journey to this paradise with this train ride is an unforgettable experience. The Schafberg Cog Railway, also known as the Schafbergbahn, is a historic railway located in Austria. It is one of the steepest cogwheel railways in the country and is a popular tourist attraction in the Salzkammergut region.
The railway is situated near Wolfgangsee, a picturesque lake in the Austrian Alps. It connects the town of Sankt Wolfgang with the summit of the Schafberg Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 1,783 meters (5,850 feet). The railway has been in operation since 1893 and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.
The journey on the Schafberg Cog Railway takes approximately 35 minutes to reach the summit. Along the way, passengers can enjoy stunning vistas of Wolfgangsee, the neighboring lakes, and the Alpine scenery. At the top, there is a mountain station where visitors can explore hiking trails, enjoy the panoramic views, and relax at the mountain restaurant.
The Schafbergbahn operates seasonally, usually from May to October, depending on weather conditions. It is a popular destination for tourists and outdoor enthusiasts, providing a unique and scenic way to experience the beauty of the Austrian Alps.

Certainly more appreciative of these railways no I am older. We camped in St Wolfgang several times but only once took the train. As I mentioned in a comment to your earlier video up here, the views are staggering. The lakes add much to the already super views of the mountains. Hope you are having a great weekend.
