- How to keep first column visible when scrolling
In this excel tutorial for beginners, I’ll show you how you can always keep the first column of your worksheet always visible even if you scroll. This is a simple tutorial yet very essential. If you have a long data set and with a lot of columns, whenever you scroll right the columns from the left becomes concealed. Let’s say you have employee name at the first column and the last column is country. But its important for you to check which employee is from which country. Now the best thing you can do is to freeze the first column and now if you scroll to the right the first column will still be visible.
I’ll be using freeze pane feature in this tutorial and let’s follow the simple steps below to learn how to freeze columns in excel.
Step 1: Click on the “View” Tab.
Step 2: Click on “Freeze Pane.”
Step 3: Click on “Freeze First Column.”
Done. This is how you keep first column visible in excel using freeze pane feature. Now no matter how much you scroll, the first column of your worksheet which is Column A will always be visible.

Hi, thanks for the video! I just have a question. Is it possible to freeze the top cell of a certain column but only for a number of rows?
For example, I want the G1 cell to remain visible for the first 500 rows, then freeze G501... and so on every 500 rows. Thanks a lot!... BTW, I use office 2007 and 2016.
Unfortunately not
What if I want to freeze more than the first coloum??
