Dyson V12 Review & Tests

  • We review and test the Dyson V12 Detect Slim cordless vacuum. Tests include carpet, hard floor, hair, edges, noise level, etc. We also dicuss all vacuum features. See it on Amazon: amzn.to/3GJmH7D
Also see the written V12 review: vacuum-cleaner-advisor.com/Dy...
We highlight that there are currently three V12 models and we show and what is in the box when you get your V12. We also we test the Hair Screw Tool on debris and hair.
We show the tool clip and what tools will fit on it and how it works. The Motorbar cleaner head is removed from the vacuum and each detail of the cleaner head is discussed. We show how the anti-tangle technology works and how to remove and reinstall the brushroll. We do the same thing for the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head.
The V12 is the first Dyson cordless vacuum we've reviewed with a power button as opposed to a power trigger. We walk through how each works.
There are three power modes. ECO, AUTO and BOOST. AUTO is an excellent feature and we discuss how the dust sensor increases and decreases suction depending on the amount of dust in the incoming air. Also, AUTO power mode only works with motorized tools so when using the crevice tool and the combo tool, AUTO becomes MEDIUM. The vacuum does this automatically.
A table is provided that compares the suction power of the Dyson V12 with that of the V7, V8, V10, V11 and V15.
We also discuss how powerful or weak the suction power of the V12 is.
This unit has a click-in battery which makes it easy to charge (can be charged on or off the vacuum) and can also double your runtime should you go out and buy a second battery. This is a brilliant feature for those who want or need a longer run time.
We show the features of the LCD control panel on the back of the handheld unit.
We test run times in all three power modes and on both carpet and hard flooring. We compare our results to those of the manufacturer.
We weighed the V12 at 5.2 lbs with the Motorbar cleaner head and 4.6 lbs with the Fluffy cleaner head. We provide a table that shows where the V12 stands with respect to weight when compared to a host of other cordless machines we've reviewed over the years.
V12 movement is excellent as is the movement of pretty much every Dyson cordless we've had the opportunity to investigate.
We performed a series of cleaning tests. Low Pile Carpet, Tile, Hair, Edges. Each test is shown and the results are discussed.
The dust canister on the vacuum is small. We compare it to the size of the dust canisters on other Dyson cordless vacuums and we show how to empty the V12.
A digital noise level meter is used to capture the noise level of the vacuum in all three power modes. We provide a table that compares the V12 noise level to that of other popular cordless vacuums.
We show how to remove and clean the filter and we discuss what a sealed system is and why it is important.
Finally, we provide a summary of our findings.

I have a husky and I was tired of dragging out my heavy and old but good Kirby diamond series. I also like the slim because I have lot of smaller area that's just too hard to reach with my Kirby because you need to remove the head and installed the hose to the Kirby.

Hey guy, sorry to hear you been under the weather. Get well soon ! I’ve been a vac guy for years, tho not professional. Mostly, I get vacs at the dumpsters. I take them apart, clean, sanitize, and get new filters for them. One of my favorite modern vacs is the Dyson upright ball. Old school - def the Electrolux classic. Anyway, I have refurbed two Dyson cordless - sv9, and more recently a v10. Two glaring things I do not like are the small canister, and difficult disassembly for deep cleaning. But I suppose like most modern appliances, they are “disposable”. I guess that’s ok if you can afford a new one every two years - Yikes !

Just bought and I love mine!! Can do a quick and easy vacuum of entire house in between major cleaning with Miele canister. With three dogs, this is such a wonderful convenience. It’s so light and the suction is great. If I hurry, I can do 2000 sq ft on one charge, with lots of carpet, hardwood and tile. Only minor complaint is the small canister and airborne dust when emptying. Will wear a mask in the future. I looked at other larger Dyson models and none were nearly as comfortable in my hand. I plan to purchase a second battery so I can take a little more time in certain areas.

Thank you for this thorough review. I am debating between the V 12 and the V 15. I have watched a couple of other reviews and I guess what I have to offer other readers is that our use case is a large home with multi surface floors, two kids and one cat. We didn’t have a problem with the dust bin filling up on our previous Dyson V7. We use the cordless vac for quick touchups around the kitchen and dining area. I believe lightweight and push button outweighs heavier, and larger dustbin in our case. I want our little kids to learn to help us with this task, too.
Question: if you purchase an extra battery, and you have the charger connected to the wall mount, how do you keep the extra battery charged when the charger is being used for the main unit?

This is such a great, overall good review. I appreciate all the time and energy you put into making this video. My husband bought me this vacuum for Christmas. I had wanted a new Dyson, but I hadn’t researched into a the new Dyson models in over 3 years. I bought the Dyson V 10 about three years ago and it’s been a great vacuum! It’s definitely made me fall in love with the Dyson brand for sure. But unfortunately, I’ve used the vacuum so much, it’s pretty much toast! The lever to empty the trash barely works, I have to mess with it every time I go to empty the vacuum. Also, my battery is operating at about 50%. Those have both been recent breakdowns into my v10 vacuum, so I knew it was time for another one. I was a little irritated at my husband for not even asking me which specific model I had wanted, especially when spending over $500 of our hard earned money, but I won’t go into that, lol! How does one complain about such a nice Christmas gift?!
But after listening to your review, I feel so much better about having this new vacuum. I think it’s going to work out just fine for me and my particular needs. I think it will be nice to have a slimmer, more light vacuum. I always hated the fact that a cordless vacuum is always going to be super top heavy. I’ve got another cordless vacuums and realized Dyson was actually on the light side of “top heavy”, but it’s still nice to get something lighter than the “usual” Dyson model. Also, I personally love the fact that this model doesn’t have the pull trigger when vacuuming. Call me a wimp, but it bothered my fingers for sure! That’s actually probably what makes me the happiest about getting this vacuum, is learning that the V 15 doesn’t even have this feature! The only thing that worries me about this vacuum is the trash bin looks very small. I guess I will just have to get in there and find out. I still haven’t used the vacuum yet. I wanted to research it and be 100% sure I wanted it before turning it on and getting it all dirty.

I just bought one and not only do they not include a manual but there was no quick start guide either. Your video is better than any Dyson instructions would be but I'm irked they didn't include a word about how to use the vacuum and accessories. After seeing your review and that it's not the more powerful of the Dyson cordless models I may have chosen differently but then again probably not. I didn't want the trigger models and lightweight was important to me. So far I really like it a lot and seems to pick up well on my floors. Thank you for the great review.

      @Clove_Parma Год назад

All current Dyson models meet or exceed the requirements for the HEPA claim through the multiple filtration stages (metal mesh, pre filter, cyclones, post filter etc), but they stopped calling it HEPA as it was causing customers to think that the filter itself was HEPA grade which it was not. The models that have a cyan coloured filter however do include a specific filter which by itself is HEPA. The models with cyan HEPA filters will capture particles down to 0.1 microns vs 0.3 on the purple filters.

I have been using the V11 Torque Drive for the past few years and over the last few months, I experience an issue where it would keep running even after releasing the trigger. I have to hit the battery to get it to stop. I am looking for something that is lighter and does not have a trigger and it sounds like the V12 may be my best option. However, most of my vacuuming is done on low pile carpet. In your honest opinion, would the V12 be sufficient enough to remove dirt, debris, and cat hair from the carpet, even on the automatic/medium mode?

The medium settings bothers me a lot. Medium with 35 or 40 would be great, but 23… its only half the power of the V15. With the powered heads its not so big of a problem, but with the small suction tube for example or if you want to vacuum dust with the brush it will be a big different. Good evaluation but all of the test are done at a crawl speed.. At those speed, it would take my wife a week to clean the floors !. Suction capacity is very important to consider. Especially if you already have an absolute V-8. The V-8 in eco mode has a better suction capacity compared to the V-12 ! This,is the deal breaker! The only reason Dyson is slowing the speed of the V12 is to get the target one hour of operation.. And yes.. it dose, but the V8 absolute is already missing some suction capacity at the eco. I thought that V-12 would hit it out of the ball park.. ? That means it's less efficient than the previous model (V8 absolute) In my opinion.. It's not worth changing for a new less efficient model. Thanks for the evaluation It help me make my decision.
