    This video and may comments on it show the issue with these kinds of bikes and interviews about them. Many people are either to willfully ignorant/lazy to do a tiny bit of research to grasp what he is talking about... or simply just too dumb. These people need to get on one of these bikes and try it for themselves too see just how cool they are and how close they actually are to being an exhilarating AND practical experience. Battery technology has been around so long and stayed relatively stagnant in consumer level markets that people just carry around this assumption that they will always be garbage. You tell someone that their precious iphone will double in computational power and battery life in 2 years and they fully believe it will happen though. Try and convince someone that vehicle battery technology is about to skyrocket in performance and its magical fairly land too good to be true stuff to them. It also doesn't help that people are so stuck in their old ways that they don't want to hear that the thing they currently are passionate about will be for the most part irrelevant to the masses in the fairly close future. People like that should be happy to hear about this technology. Even if you vehemently oppose it at least you get to keep your ICE vehicles and be part of a "special/elite"(snobby) niche purist subculture. You get to be the cool kid hipster guardians of the "real vehicles". I however will as usual keep an open mind and enjoy the best of both worlds. I will get to enjoy the nostalgia and nuances of ICE bikes and the bright rip your face of torque filled future of electric bikes that will cost me pretty well nothing to do continent crossing distances.

      Roy Rodriguez Yeah because no one can manage to go a 1000 miles on an electric motorbike in 24 hours.
      Opps wait, yes they have. :)
      Ah, well, I've ridden ICE bikes for 25 years, and even the best among them (R1's, YZF's) seem lumbering lumps with poor throttle lag compared to my current electric bike.
      Range & price are the only trump cards ICE bikes have left, and those two are starting to look a bit iffy in the next 5-8 years, batteries have improved dramatically in the last 3 years alone, and the prices continue to drop.
      Basically ICE bikes are gonna be for granddads and historical enthusiasts, and you know, I'm okay with that. Electric bikes just have better performance.

      Roy Rodriguez Zero's already have 100+ mile range and 1 hour recharges. In 10 years they will be at least double the range, probably more, won't you be eating your hat when you have to pull over fill your bike at 200 miles, and your buddies on electric can go even further. Electric is the inevitable future, the only argument is about the timeframe.

      Roy Rodriguez What a poor argument against electric motorcycles. The technology for electric vehicles is quite new and technologies like this take time to develop and find their way into daily life. So far they have done very well. Instead of trying to find a fault in something amazing, look at the benefits and keep in mind the consequences. If an electric bike isn't good for you, don't buy one. However implying they don't work for anybody is ridiculous.

      @MatthewShermanHappy420 9 лет назад +1

    • @fpvgearhead5034

      Matthew Sherman So what does that have to do with the oil industry suppressing e power you would know that if you did some research home scratch.

    • @Lucuskane
      @Lucuskane 9 лет назад +1

      altruistic You can do that with the power of your dollar, don't buy oil powered devices if you have the options. Buy a electric lawn mowers, cars, motorcycles etc. It seems your dollar speaks louder that government regulations or protests.

    • @fpvgearhead5034
      @fpvgearhead5034 9 лет назад +1

      Lucus Kane People could buy e powered vehicles if they were affordable but because it is suppressed cost is still high and the oil industry intends to keep it that way as long as they can but the good news is IC engines will lose in the end.

    • @Lucuskane
      @Lucuskane 9 лет назад

      altruistic It will only lose if we as consumers allow it to. If only 1/4 of the cars on the road are electric, that is enough to reduce overall cost on electric vehicles and appliances. Even with suppression, we can still make that choice of buying what we want, instead of what is available. The US is the biggest car market in the world, therefore they decide what gets to be on the market.

    Why the Zero is the best/most fun motorcycle you will never buy. I test rode a Zero DS 13.0 last week. It's the most fun I've ever had on a motorcycle. The torq is UNREAL. You can't 'not smile' while riding it. The quiet ride is REVOLUTIONARY - think how much more you are exposed to the elements between a car and a motorcycle. A lot right? It's the same difference between and electric moto and gas moto. The electric has no fumes, no noise - just a much purer 'near nature' experience. BUT, you won't buy this bike. Two reason. First, range. with the biggest battery you can go maybe 75 miles? So forget driving to the next town over, you won't make it back. This in an 'in town only' moto. Commuters only, unfortunately. Second, the price. With the big battery, you will hit $19k (us). That's an insane amount of money for a bike you can't take out of the city. You could get two other bikes for that price. Two bikes that you could take out of the city. IF Zero can triple the range (to 250ish highway), and half the price (to $10k) they will own the moto industry. My fingers are crossed they will... (the bike is insanely fun).

      khm Isle of Man TT world record for petrol bikes is 17:06min with avg speed of 132mph
      electric bike maneged 19:17min lap with avg speed of 117mph
      so still far off not to mention petrol bikes are doing 6 laps in a race and electric only one lap
      so it its much easier on the rider
      also even supersport 600 is faster than electric

    • @SNBI1776
      @SNBI1776 9 лет назад

      I watched the 17 minute lap you are talking about. As what i was talking about was the "zero" class. From what i heard should be new competition this year from lightning motorcycles. I believe they claimed 200hp and 200 ft lb of torque. Hyper bike was not quite the right word for the mugen shinden. I love electrics tons of torque and no fossil fuel dependency. If the lighting is there as they claimed it will. It should compete at a much higher level.(i do not regularly follow/watch the isle of man. but its incredible)

    • @justinandrews7461
      @justinandrews7461 9 лет назад +1

      Coba Abroad Not quite, though the Honda/Mugens are getting close to being competitive at the TT, from chatting to people they have the speed and acceleration of the classic class, and handle better through the corners, the issue is the weight of the batteries means the braking points have to be earlier, and that really matters on the mountain course. However based on performance improvement, the crossover point where electrics might start dominating the TT is the 2018-2020 time frame. Hell if Martian McGuinness is riding one, well they can't be that bad... ;)
      A better example is the Lightening LS-218 at Pikes Peak when it ran in 2013, coming in first place. That was the wake up call that the electrics are starting to dominate.

    • @TheTonicro
      @TheTonicro 9 лет назад +1

    What is the cost of a replacement battery for the zero? My friend who has an older zero that needs a battery told me the price, a battery for his zero cost $42,000 because he let his battery discharge all the way. For $42,000, I could drive over 500,000 miles on my motorcycle using gasoline ..my current motorcycle and the dozens of motorcycles I have had are all faster than I want to go when they have to be...Adequate speed is all I need. When you buy a Rolls-Royce news, they list the speed as, adequate.
    Is zero working on a full fairing two passenger touring machine.? I need to be able to carry a passenger, and luggage for trips. Camping gear. I want a faring for wind protection. I want cruise control, I want to use the intercom, CB,..Honda is working on air-conditioning for the gold wing.. that would be wonderful..Is zero working on a machine with radios, and it will be able to carry a passenger with luggage and a full fairing for weather protection? That would be fantastic. I hope it can do 500 mile days with two people pushing a faring through the air, powerering all the electronics I use now..

    A lot of marketing misinformation on this interview. Ex: Mugen has been developing (with a huge budget) the electric bike that has been cleaning the TT with McGuiness at the bars. But it still is almost 10% slower than the petrol bikes. Same for the electric efforts on Pikes Peak. How about the Formula E vehicles? Lot's of money for development but slower and with horrible endurance, forcing them to have car swaps during the race. Electric is one of the possible futures for vehicles, but battery development is still a long way from making it the performance king. Maybe in 10 years time it will be feasible both from a technology and from an economical perspective, but it isn't at the moment (as Luke wants to pass as reality) and it won't be in a couple of years I am afraid. Wish people just stuck to the facts instead of acting as fan boys from either side.

      Honestly id give money to companys that make electric bikes with no product to have. Like an advance so they can create and make the thing.
      So ask your self, would you buy a watch that only runs for 2h, is as big a a coffee mug, can not be set, costs 3 times as a regular watch, but runs on air?

    Sounds like typical electric BS. "It's the most amazing technology and works 10x better than gas and there's some lady with snake oil that just needs money and the batteries will be 1000x more sense than gasoline it's not even a comparison." Meanwhile their bikes are still more expensive, less powerful, heavier, and have crap range compared to gas.
    I don't doubt electric will become competitive to gas, but it's a lot longer than they act. It's just hipster, "tech" bullshit at this point. I wish it was treated realistically. If you're going to talk about the Rude Goldberg(sp?) of gas engines, talk about the way electricity is made and transferred to the batteries. Just as complex.
    It's been how many decades that we've been told battery tech will be here in the next couple of years?

      +TheOfficialKC yes, they are heavier, yes they have less range then internal combustion engines, but the less powerful statement is not totally true. now while gas engine do have a higher HP and torque rating then electric motors, but you have to remember that unlike gas engines, electric motors make HP and torque instantly unlike a gas engine which has to be revving at a certain RPM range to make its optimum power rating. now while they are more expensive the gas engines you have to remember, these companies dont have huge backers to lower the manufacturing process of these bikes. so unless they actually get support from a "Brand name" company like Yamaha, Honda, Harley or any one of those, they are still going to be a costly vehicle to buy.
      now as for the battery tech, the same argument can be said as the one i mentioned above. its all about the financial support they need to get the technology put into actual production. The technology exist now to make one of these bike have a 1000 mile range, but the funds needed for this technology into a bike, the consumer alone would be paying close to $300,000 for the product, and that would be just for the battery.

      +anubis1100 The funding argument doesn't work. Look at what small time manufacturers can do like Koenigsegg when competing against huge brands with billions like McLaren and Ferrari. They make their cars look like jokes. Even more so, TESLA. They have billions at their disposal yet their cars are still 1/3 the range of gas cars, very heavy and slower.
      Instant torque is always used as a for electric motors, now at highway passing use, that is great, in performance use, not so much because that just means spinning tires because there isn't traction for it.
      Like I said, the technology itself is still well behind gasoline combustion, and they haven't even touched the big benefits in modern 2-stroke design yet. But these people continue to act like it is already centuries ahead of ICE. I agree that it will one day be better, but now it is a statement, a fashion piece, and not because it is better because it truly isn't even that close yet.

      Christopher McGovern “becomes a reality faster than you could believe.” Lol, this is a 4-year old thread and that’s what I was told then and it’s still not here. I’m been fed this line every few years for the last 20 year and it still isn’t so. Like I said, the technology will probably come, but it will take a hell of a lot longer than these people keep saying.

    Were these the ones that Zero were forced to buy back due to battery problems ?
    Totally shabby company who disregard their customers by making their products obsolete and refusing service for “old” bikes and ripping their dealers off on commission 🧏🏻‍♀️👎🏻
