Oh dear! NEVER OIL GEARS only the bearings need a small drop of oil. Always clean off ALL the old oil as using synthetic oil on top of old oil will turn to glop and jam the mechanism. This is a good example of what NOT to do.
@@KarthusDreams can’t find your video. I have one I use to dance to with daughter when she was a baby ( she is now 40) and I inherited it but it is wound too tightly so I really need some help. Can you lead me to your video or let me know what to do.
Total cob job just shoved some glue drill away Over lubricate mechanism. Some sob in the future will be in for a suprise when he opens the box in the future lol Old german engineers turning in there grave Also nice touch to video plays annoying background music and doesent play music box lol I just wasted 15 minutes of my life ill never get back lol
Would you or someone reading this, explain how to repair the on/off protruding wire. For a ‘40s aluminum music box, it doesn’t shut off. Thanks for any help. 😊
Ok, we watched the entire process only to never hear it actually play. I think you made a big mistake drilling new holes in the wood block. You could have easily filed and redrilled the original holes using glue and wood match sticks. Now that there are two unused holes, the value is negatively impacted. Potential buyers may think that the movement is not original to the box.
I thought he was going to show me how to clan and polish the cylinder he only shows how to glue a piece of timber together my little kid could do that.
You should NEVER lube the gears itself. Sending a very wrong message there. You should open the gearbox and clean the old oil with some Isopropyl alcohol and assemble it, followed by fresh oil - only a dab of it too. It doesnt need so much. Rather shoddy workmanship. Sorry
Play a little bit of the music for us after you finish! That would be a special treat! ;-) cheers!
what i was thinking :)

Wow this is such a wonderful music box right here man I love it.😃👍❤️😍🥰🎶🎵
Brass is self-lubricating. ... should never put oil onto gear sprockets. It lends itself to gumming up dust/grime.
You probably repaired it. It’s fully working. You’re a expert repairing stuff. Keep it up
is it possible to clean the brass on these?...is it possible to clean the cylinders?, enjoyed the video, thank you
Not a good idea putting oil in the teeth. Also, you should not oil dirty pivots, the mechanism needs to come apart and be cleaned first.
Why no oil? Does that harm the teeth or the brass metal?
@@cuskit - it attracts dirt and grime. The shape of the teeth have a rolling action as they touch and do not need oil.
@@h3h3eot Thank you! I've inherited a lever wind cylinder music box from my recently passed on Mom. Thinking of trying to get it working again.
I did a cleaning video

OHHH NO!!!
Never NEVER follow this Instruction by working with the Mechanism!
At first take the comb away, before any rebuilding of parts.
