David Suchet internalised Poirot's character, making him the only believable portrayal of Agatha's literary masterpiece. Other actors are of pale comparison to his artistry and skills. Bravo!!!
The only other actor that comes close to David's Poirot, is John Moffatt. He plays Poirot in the dramatized audiobooks and sounds almost exactly like him, except his accent is slightly thicker. But on screen, nobody comes close. There's a reason his version is called, Agatha Christie's Poirot, because it is the most faithful to the source material.
I would love to have "Poirot" as the GPS tracker voice. "Mon Dieu, you are travelling a bit too fast, no?" "If you turn left soon we will have arrived, yes?"
this is amazing!! i speak both English and French but i'm by far not a native speaker. So I've always wondered if Sir Suchet's accent sounded proper for a native speaker of French. What a pleasant comment huh!! so does he really sound, well, comme il faut?
i am also French living in UK for 20 years now, the first time I ve heard his "REAL"voice AFTER 10 YEARS of watching Poirot , I had to sit down as his speed , his tone is 100% French , I WAS GOBSMACKED !!!!!
This is why classically trained actors will always win against kids who get into the business on screen-tests alone. Rehearsal. Technique. Character-building. Physical exercises. Thought. Research.
Yeah. I just wish he had gotten an Emmy nomination (or better yet, a win) for playing Poirot and Hugh Fraser for playing Hastings. They should both have gotten Emmy nominations for Curtain at the least.
The most perfect portrayal of a fictional character I've ever seen. Even when the episodes of 'Poirot' were less than inspired they were always thoroughly enjoyable to watch because of David Suchet's performance in the title role.
It's impossible to be 100% close to the original source material. There were changes in every episode but actually, apart for a few episodes, the rest were really really accurate... I would say a 80% accurate. The majority of the time they just cut out one or two minor characters or add Japp or Hastings because the public wanted to see the main cast all together 👏🙌🙌
I'm not sure Jeremy Brett was the best ever. I think Basil Rathbone was up there too. Certainly Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett were the two iconic ones.
That was fascinating to watch...He put as much importance on the voice as he did on the mannerisms, the walk, and the appearance. Truly a brilliant actor. Love every minute of him on film...He is perfection...of the kind his character demanded.
That is AMAZING!!! Not only is he changing his apperance, the manner of walking and the accent, but also the tone of his voice! Yes, he really IS one and olny Hercule Poirot!
The key thing a great actor does with a figure like Poirot is he invests him with a real character. He's not a collection of mannerisms and a few physical attributes: he's a real person: the culmination of an entire life. Even though it's barely mentioned in the books or scripts, I bet you David could tell you all about Poirot's life as a police inspector in Belgium, about his childhood, his education, his personal life, his early successes and disappointments. He was given a role; he created a human being. And that, more than anything, is where the actor is a creative artist. The creation begins and ends in the actors head: the techniques are used to transmit that reality to the audience.
New fan since 2024! As an English speaker who‘s been living in France for more than 10 years, I didn't realize that David was English!! I kept thinking to myself, 'Wow, it's amazing they found a Francophone who speaks English so incredibly well and acts fantastically haha
I can't watch anyone else as Poirot. Even when some of the plotlines of the episodes get confusing or the other actors are a bit green, David Suchet's Poirot is captivating. I recently tried watching the 2017 Murder On The Orient Express and while it had its positives, it all felt like a performance. With Suchet the character never feels like a performance, he just IS Poirot and that's that. I actually think the 1974 Orient Express film is the best written/directed overall (I watched it as a child so I am also biased by nostalgia, but I do think it does the best job of building suspense) but isolating the Poirot character alone, Suchet's is champion, and always will be. I see that Branagh's Death On The Nile is coming out in 2020 and I will be interested to see it, but I really don't think any actor for the rest of time will be able to top Suchet as Poirot. Certainly Branagh is very talented and gave a strong performance in the 2017 Orient Express film, but it was still a performance and not the total embodiment of the character that David Suchet has managed to accomplish.
My one mark against Suchet’s Poirot isn’t even his fault: most of them felt like television dramas with requisite day players and TV budgets. Which they were. But just to see say Branagh direct Suchet as Poirot, with cinematic production values, story plotting, perhaps adding a couple original side characters , would be amazing.
@@Ironcabbit absolutely not. The TV series was and is perfect in this way. It is a masterpiece and even with a lower budget they did an excellent job and 100% historic and costumes accurate.
Actually TV version of "Murder on the Orient Express" is 10 times better than 1974 film... But ALBERT Finney and Sydney Lumet still great and the cast stellar
His attention to detail and passion for playing Poirot is pathological, and it definitely shows in his performance. It never ceases to amaze me how many little things Davis Suchet did to go above and beyond the call of duty to get his portrayal of Poirot just right.
What an absolute delight to hear the voice transition from Mr Suchet to Mr Poirot! I could visualise the wardrobe change simultaneously while hearing the voice change :D Wonderful!
i am also French living in UK for 20 years now, the first time I ve heard his "REAL"voice AFTER 10 YEARS of watching Poirot , I had to sit down as his speed , his tone is 100% French , I WAS GOBSMACKED !!!!!
I just discovered David's Poirot. My wife and I watched an episode every night until we finished the series. I'm flabbergasted by David's brilliant portrayal. Probably the most talented actor I've ever seen. "Hastings! Mon Ami!" (My Friend!)
@@MsGrapeNehi I mean, I get that he wants to play the part, Kenneth Brannagh wanted it too, but they look nothing like how he's described in Dame Agatha's books.

I so enjoy the Poirot series, but now having heard from this amazing man with the "sexiest grey cells" I am even more enchanted with him as an actor. There are very few actors who have such command of their presence in their role and in their professional life.
Suchet is simply awesome....I love him! I want to act & to continue to learn the art of acting because of his ingenuity! God bless you and be with you David Suchet!
Incomparable and timeess. What a reasyre. Poitrot's hayghtinress is the caleidoscope-like sparkle that glistens when Hercules speaks. Priceless. Don't ask me how softest most luxurious velvet quality of the H-tone voice sparkles but it does.
David Suchet is amazing and this is wonderful to watch as he works his way into Poirot. What fun to hear at 0:29 to 0:34 when he starts with his low French voice he sounds very much like the great actor Charles Boyer from the old days of film/Hollywood.
David Suchet internalised Poirot's character, making him the only believable portrayal of Agatha's literary masterpiece. Other actors are of pale comparison to his artistry and skills. Bravo!!!
Exactly!
Even adolescent me knew that neither Albert Finney nor Peter Ustinov could touch Suchet with a ten meter cattle prod when it came to Poirot portrayal.
He is also the only Poirot who counts the Christie family among his fans. Normally Agatha hated to see people play him.
And he has the best mustache of any of the other actors.

Take one wrong turn.. Non non non mon ami..
Take another one - Quelle imbecilé 😑
I think I'd yell at the GPS a lot less if it were like this...
Amazing ! I'm French and I watch Poirot in English, I always thought the actor was a real French or Belgian !
Moi aussi !
Me too !!
If that comment of yours isn’t proof enough of David’s talent then I don’t know what is. Thank you

Sir David Suchet is to Hercule Poirot what Jeremy Brett was to Sherlock Holmes - definitive, incomparable, and unforgettable. Absolutely brilliant.
Only Suchet managed to keep hold of his sanity. RIP Jeremy Brett.
My EXACT comment to a friend recently!
I'm not sure Jeremy Brett was the best ever. I think Basil Rathbone was up there too. Certainly Basil Rathbone and Jeremy Brett were the two iconic ones.
I have to watch this clip every time I find myself forgetting that this man actually isn't Hercule Poirot. He's just... so perfect it's scary.
U said it ... I feel da same ... David IS Poirot 😁❤😍
It also helps that his accent almost never slips, even in emotional scenes. Never once did I not buy that Poirot was not Belgian.
Why hasn't this man been knighted?
Your wish has been granted my friend
Fahad Islam really?
AlexGRFan97 yeah i know
AlexGRFan97 A CBE isn’t a knighthood. It’s an honour.
Looks like he was just knighted this week! 10/10/20

this made my "little grey cells" very happy!
In my head, I read the “the little grey cells” in Poirot’s voice. This man is a genius!
Agree my little grey cells are tickled
Fascinating, this is why I think real old fashioned actors are amazing. They do research and delve into the layers of their character.
His original voice is so beautifully masculine and sexy.
He's truly a genius and a hard working actor!
I love his Poirot voice!

Superb, a mini masterclass.
I noticed in earlier Poirots that his voice was a little lower at the start of the series and then later it seem to travel upwards a bit.🙌
