I cannot remember the last time I was so excited about an upcoming movie. Gary is such a superb actor and I am looking forward to this movie immensely!
Love, Love, Love Gary!!! The Academy really needs to give this man an Oscar once & for all... He's beyond surpassed deserving of 1 by now & really should've already won 1++++. So many other undeserving actors who have an Oscar don't even come close to his pure raw talent. The most talented actors/actresses are from the U.K.
I'm pretty sure he's going to win this year, but if the Oscars work like they usually do (favoring the mainstream actor over the talented one - aka Timothée Chalamet) I am doubtful. But he is by the far the best lead actor I have seen in any movie this year so chances are high.
Hello Peers - I think (and hope) you are right. He just won the Golden Globe and the Screen Actor's Guild awards for the role, so it certainly LOOKS like he's headed for the Oscar. But I also agree that the Academy will sometimes award people for stupid reasons, and not necessarily acting talent. Katherine Hepburn is a great example of that. She won 4 Oscars - which is absurd. She was never that good.

Fair play to him. I really don't care for films or actors but the film looks pretty damn good and Winston Churchill is not an easy character to replicate or live up to. I hope the film is as good as it looks.
Just saw the movie today, and though the makeup convinced me Gary Oldman had grown fatter, it was Oldman's performance that convinced me he was Churchill in this movie. This is very much about Churchill's struggle with internal enemies and how he prevails to become the famous figure of British resistance to Nazi Germany. The movie scarcely shows any sign of WWII--this is about Churchill's darkest hour.

I don't think DDL will win the oscar this year, the trailer to the Phantom Thread doesn't really look as if he is going out of his way, traditional DDL style. So I think the race is quite open for our generation's 2nd greatest actor - GARY OLDMAN!!!
