  • This is a patch created to incorporate the TC Helicon Harmony GXT into the Line 6 Helix. Using 1/4" to XLR adapters I'm able to patch this pedal into one of the Helix FX loops and use the Helix to bring the Harmony GXT in and out of the signal chain.

    This is exactly what I was looking for. I’ve been using the TC Helicon Harmony GXT for 15 years, and considering getting a Helix. Thank you

    ok, lets be honest. The coolest thing about this video is the fact that you set up the Akai in the background to do that cool light show. I mean the info was interesting, helpful, and generally well presented... BUT... light shows just add a certain, well, ambience that is missing from so many run of the mill Helix videos. ;-)

      Yep just bought the Akai.....Never use it. Gotta have it....

    Great video! I’ve been trying to get my tc helicon harmony pedal working with the helix floor and I think I might be approaching the cabling incorrectly. Can you confirm or correct my logic? I’m running a cable from the helix send into the guitar input on the tc helicon. Then running another cable from the instrument thru to the return on the helix. Then the usual routing for the mic. Microphone xlr into the tc helicon mic input. Xlr from tc helicon output into the helix mic input. It was odd because I’m getting some clipping but barely and I also didn’t have to add a send return block on the helix for it to work. All reasons I feel that I did something wrong 😂. I would really appreciate your thoughts. Thanks man!

    Great vid. I hooked up my tchelicon harmony singer pedal as suggested. It works but it is distorted and I am having problems trying to rid the distortion but keep enough noticeable effect. Any suggestions? Fxloop settings all zero except mix which is 38%. The Pedal level i have tried 50% to 100%.

      To be honest I'd have to go back and look at this patch. I don't have this pedal any longer and I haven't done this in a while.
      Off the top of my head though it sounds like the Helix is sending a signal that's too hot for the Harmony Singer pedal.
      Do you have the FX send that's giving the guitar signal to the pedal at the very beginning of the chain in Helix? If it's after the amp model the signal will definitely be too hot.
      I can't remember also if you can lower the FX send to a negative value below 0db, but if you can that could help.

    Thanks dude! I have that vocal pedal and looking at the helix. So I can sing AND play guitar out of my Yamaha HS8's, simultaneously, with no problems?

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  8 лет назад +1

      That shouldn't be a problem. Just use 1/4" to XLR adapters like I show in the video and you can out the pedal in one of helix's fx loops and route it out the main outputs of helix. If the vocal pedal needs a guitar input just use the send from another one of the helix's 4 fx loops and you're good to go!

    Hi, I want to do this run the same pedal through my Helix. Do I need to adjust the mix on the PC, no option doing direct on the Helix & I’m getting Vox with no affect out? Thanks this is so helpful!

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  6 лет назад

      +James Davidson I don't have my helix in front of me right now, but I think you should be able to adjust the mix from the unit itself. When you use the joystick to select the fx loop block what parameters show up?
      I usually edit via the pc in my studio, so I'm more familiar with that method.
      Glad the video was helpful!

      Thanks I will have a look, I ran as you mentioned in another post, just with the send to the pedal, first gig tonight with the helix, ran acoustic & electric straight through to the PA, delighted! Comments from the band on the tone...! Thanks for all your videos, very helpful!

    Thanks for the informative video! I could see this working well for a gigging acoustic musician.
    So, the Helix doesn't do vocal harmony? I though there were some pitch shifting effects in the Helix? You couldn't drop the Helicon and just used the Helix for everything? Or does the Helicon just sound better for vocal harmonizing?

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  7 лет назад +3

      You're welcome!
      The Helix has pitch shifting effects, but it doesn't do smart harmonies like the Helicon pedal does. With the Helicon pedal it "listens" to what you play on the guitar and adjusts the harmonies to match. With the Helix you can just set it to a specific interval.
      The Helix is great for vocal processing (EQ, Compression, Reverb, etc), just not as good for creating realistic vocal harmonies. Would be awesome if they added that, but being primarily a guitar based pedal I'm not holding my breath :)

      Thanks for the reply, Chad. The TC Helicon stuff sounds impressive, but they've got a bunch of similar products (with similar price tags). If you had a choice, would you stick with the Harmony-G XT or go for the Play Acoustic (that's only $10 more from what I can tell)?
      And what's this BodyRez feature all about? Is it available in the -G XT? Can it be similarly achieved in the Helix with a nice acoustic IR?

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  7 лет назад +1

      The Harmony G-XT is the only pedal of theirs I've used and I only use it for vocal processing.
      I would say if you aren't going to use something like the Helix to process/enhance the acoustic guitar sounds then the Play Acoustic would be a great all in one solution for handling vocals and guitar. If you are going to use the Helix, the acoustic features on the Play Acoustic may be redundant.
      I don't have any experience with their bodyrez feature, but it looks cool. If you're using Helix you can probably achieve similar, or maybe better, results by using acoustic IR's.

    I have the same harmonizer. Is there a way to bypass using the helix for mic effects. On the set up you use where does the actual mic plug in. I'm supposing the helix mic input.

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  7 лет назад

      Earl Lum yes you can bypass using the helix for vocal effects. Just use the send block at the beginning of path 1A to go to the tc helicon pedal so it knows what chords you're playing. You don't need to use the other send/receive to get the mic signal into the helix. Yes, with this setup I plug the mic into the helix mic input. Hope that helps.

    Great video & very helpful, thanks! I'm planning on getting a TC Helicon Voicelive Play Electric after selling my VL3X in order to buy the helix & want to incorporate them.. if I want to do what you have done but also want some vocal effects coming from the TCH like transducer for example, do I set it up the same way as you have or is there something different I have to do? I really like what you have achieved with these great pedals & hope I can do the same with the play electric using some voice effects as well harmonies! Thanks!

      +FALSE MODESTY. Glad this was helpful! Yes, you would set it up the same way to use effects from the voicelive. The only thing you may want to check is to make sure that you have the mix set to 100% on the fx loop block. I have the harmony on my tc set all the way wet, so I use the fx loop block to mix in the harmony amount. You would just set the harmony amount on the voicelive instead

      I've just ordered the cable adapters but think I might have got the wrong ones by accident as it seems I have ordered stereo instead of mono! Would that still work?

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  6 лет назад

      If I'm thinking about this correctly you'll get either the left or right signal by using only one side, or you could run it back into 2 effects loops on Helix and use it as a stereo loop. Which could be cool as well.

    • @falsemodesty4812
      @falsemodesty4812 6 лет назад

      Yeah they do work 😁 testing it out now in my studio just gotta work on balancing levels between the guitar & mic but apart from that works great! Thanks again!

    Are you using stereo cables for looping the TC Helicon? Seems to be a stereo plug. Would mono cables be enough?

    Can anyone suggest where I can find more info out there on using the helix floor as a vocal processor?
    I’ve heard it’s really good, and obviously under-utilised. I think a lot of us could really use ‘An Idiots Guide To… “

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  2 года назад

      I may do a video about this, but in general for helix effects to use on vocals I'd suggest experimenting with EQ, Compressor, Studio Pre, Reverb, then any delay, modulation, or distorted effects you may want to try.
      Just think about it in the same way you'd setup a vocal chain in the studio or on stage.

      @@ChadHuskey that’s the thing, I didn’t grow up around this stuff. I’m still developing an understanding of signal chains and further settings in general. Please do a video!! There’s like 2 out there, and I didn’t get what I wanted out of those. I’d love to see a tutorial on how to set up a vocal preset, whether on its own or with guitar.

    Hi Chad, thanks for the hint. Really useful. I’ve just tested it but I get quite some noise. I am using the TC Helicon Harmony Singer 2. Did you have this problem also?
    I think in my case the fault comes from the cables I’ve bought which look quite cheap although they weren’t. I’ve ordered new quality ones to check. I hope it doesn’t have to do with auto gain in the pedal which cannot be deactivated. Thanks!

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  5 лет назад

      I didn't run into that particular issue. If cables don't help maybe try decreasing the gain on the fx send from Helix. Maybe the signal is too hot?

    • @isidg_
      @isidg_ 5 лет назад

      Chad Huskey thanks for your reply Chad. I will wait for the new cables and let you know. The signal is a Shure SM58 to the mic preamp of the Helix and then the Fx loop block. After that the mic pre block, compressor and reverb. Almost no micgain in the global settings. Will let you know! Thanks!!

    • @isidg_
      @isidg_ 5 лет назад +1

      Hi Chad, I am glad to report that it was due to user error. I had put the fx loop block at the beginning of the Helix path, before the Mic Pre, eq and LA Compressor. Some hum noise was amplified by the preamp and the compressor and it was creating the hissing high pitched noise. Just moving the fx loop after those (just before reverb) solved it. Dead silent. Happy days! Thanks again!! Cheers

    If anyone can tell me how to connect my Boss VE2 vocal harmoniser into my Line 6 Helix floor pedal, I'd be very, very happy! It was so simple with my old analogue pedalboard ...

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  6 лет назад

      The connections on the VE2 are pretty much the same as the TC pedal I'm using in this demo. The method I describe in this video will work with your VE2.

    On a serious note.... is the FootSwitch momentary or latching? I would think you really want harmony in small doses and hits of harmony. Rather than long sustained uses (latching)...

    • @ChadHuskey
      @ChadHuskey  8 лет назад

      I'm glad you enjoyed the light show!! I have the footswitch setup as latching. I didn't really think about setting it up as momentary. I'll have to experiment with that and see which I like better :)
