    "Do A Good Turn Daily". Kind of old fashioned but many, many former Boy Scouts like myself still remember this slogan and do this. Thank you for clearing those broken branches. This is a fine spot to be buried awaiting the resurrection🕊

    I believe the bull behind Jim in his tomb stone is his world famous bucking bull Tornado. I had a chance to meet Jim and his family in Henrietta a couple times. My mom still has a picture of me on a horse with Jim in about 1961 when my dad was there for a rodeo school and I had a chance to return in the early 70s when a family friend went down to Jim’s son in laws bull fighting school. He and his family were very kind and accommodating. My favorite Jim Shoulders quote is “ sometimes it’s better to have a little luck than all the skill in the world”

    Hi, was just going to call it a note when I spotted your video. What an amazing life he lead. If his wife Sharon is still alive she be coming up for 92 birthday. Any chance can search if she is still alive. I wonder if they had children & if they followed in their fathers footsteps. I've just watched 2 videos of a young main in Maine I think & both show him cleaning up old cemeteries. He did a wonder job on them. Will come back with his name. Cheers Lynne Australia 🇦🇺🐨👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Adventures with Trevor cleanings 170 yr old cemetery & the other is 150 yrs

    Hey Rhetty,
    Right off the bat, I've gotta mention that I LOVE the sign for the cemetery, as it gives the address for folks to send donations to help with the upkeep. I've never seen that done before and I think that's a great idea; I wish MORE cemeteries would do that!
    I don't know much about old rodeo stars, or about rodeos in general, other than the fact that I enjoy being a spectator occasionally. My grandparents used to raise horses/cows/bulls starting back in the 1930s, right up through the 1970s. They raised them primarily for "show" during the Rochester (New Hampshire) Annual Fair and for the old 4H Club they were a part of. Lots of their stock was sold and hauled off all across the country. Now I'm sitting here wondering if any of their bulls made it to the likes of Jim Shoulders! There's no way to know for sure, but I 'spose it's possible!
    Also, love the wagon-wheel marker at 7:35 -- it's really pretty (and quite unique)!
    And thanks for moving those branches off the Dudley's burial site. I do that all the time, too, when I'm out exploring old cemeteries. Every little bit counts!
    Have a great weekend!
    Val.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  4 года назад

      It's difficult to say about the livestock making it to Jim but generally those are two different worlds. Show stock doesn't usually have what it takes to have the rodeo stock and vice versa. Both are really interesting and vital in my opinion.
      It's nice to hear that you help out on cemeteries when you can. We need more people like you so thank you for doing tha!
      As always I appreciate you always watching and commenting!

    Greetings from Memphis, TN. About 15 years ago when I was hauling salt water in the oilfield I was sent out to the Jim Shoulders Ranch. I usually didn’t go that far away from Seminole but I did that day. My boss told me to not exceed 10 mph after I went through the gate because the guy that owned the Ranch had some very expensive bulls that he would lend to the rodeos for bull riders. I’m not a guy that keeps up with that sort of thing and I had no clue who Jim Shoulders was. One of the truck drivers I worked with told me who he was when I returned that day. I didn’t know who Lane Frost was either until after the Garth Brooks song came out. Lane Frost is in the video.

      I'm familiar with the rodeo cowboy of course, there are several but another huge one is Terry Don West. I'm not familiar with the actor you are talking about. There is an actress that grew up here though. There are quite a few football professional players from here. More recent famous one would be Troy Aikman. But I'm curious who the stuntman is. I don't know anything about that.

Worth and Houston...my older sister was friends with him...she helped him with the Ben Johnson Celebrity Roping/Cutting Charity in Ft. Worth...also another "Cowboy" from Henrietta is Troy Aikman 🏈...in May of 1968 a Braniff Lockheed Electra crashed just south of my parents home near Dawson, Texas.. west of Corsicana....85 were killed on the plane...later in the evening...I think it was Jim Shoulder's brother showed up...he was thinking Jim was supposed to be on that flight...luckily he wasn't

    Great video Rhetty love watching your channel. I notice that the workers in the town I live in that work for the city dont bother to pick up limbs or anything in the cemetery where my grandparents are they just mow around them. So I pick them up and throw them in my truck bed. Have you ever done a video on Ben "Son" Johnson J.R.? He was a actor and stuntman and world champion rodeo cowboy. He was born in Foraker Oklahoma and is buried in Pawhuska Oklahoma at the Pawhuska Cemetery he was in movies like Shane with Alan Ladd and played Melvin Pelvis in Dillinger in 1973, Hang em High in 1968 with Clint Eastwood and Chisum in 1970 with John Wayne. As well as Fort Apache and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon with John Wayne.

    Being a horse lover and owner over the years of 3 Appaloosas, its always interesting to hear about "cowboys". However, due to the fact that bucking broncos were actually created by taking a cinch or back strap and tighting it over their sensitive areas to cause them to buck, takes away from the validity of bron riding.

    • @RhettyforHistory
      @RhettyforHistory  4 года назад

      The flank strap is a device that causes a minor irritation. It is loose in the chute and pulled when exiting all though it has a measure from being pulled too tight. This irritation is much like putting a saddle on a horse that jsn't used to it or a collar on a dog. They also use these on bulls. In many ways these are conditioning tools to let them know when it is time to go to work. These broncs and bulls are also bred to do this. But the flank strap is not there over an area that will cause harm. Once it annoys them then it causes them to kick out and back, jump etc. Rodeo stock was always a big part of my family here in Oklahoma. These animals had extremely good care.
