My brother sent me this when i was in hospital after having a 8 hour operation for kidney cancer. For a few days after my operation i was in severe pain due to internal bleeding that wasnt discovered until 3 days past but this song kept me calm and let me drift off to sleep at night. Thanks Tom, you are the best big brother ever!
My friend played this song at her wedding as she was walking down the aisle. She was married outside on a beautiful fall day in the country. It genuinely made me cry.
thats super ironic because perdition means "a state of eternal punishment and damnation" ...so she was walking the road into hell according to the song title ha ha ha
I once had a friend who played the theme from "Jurassic Park" at her wedding when we were munching on the first course of the night, which was a basket of large leaves for each guest.
I know it has been a while since your comment, but I just wanted to let you know that I feel you're pain. He is probably watching over you right now in heaven and thinking about how proud he is of you.
Every single Thomas Newman score is incredibly emotional. The man has a few cliches he keeps repeating in his scores but you can never get tired of them. Genius.
I never felt so much peace. Where did all the hatred go? My insecurities and worries? Most of the images definitely help enhance what is already so pure and fantastic. This is perfect. Love it.
Thomas Newman so perfectly captures the fragile beauty of life with his music, that it makes for the best and the most painful listening experience all at the same time. Wonderfully done!
The sheer melancholic depth, the overall endearing poignancy, the lonely meditative reflection, all those beautifully nostalgic journeys into a past filled with loss and grief, all the solemn acceptance that overwhelms and floods the soul, and all the hurtful heartbreak, along with these feelings and sensations of hope rising, of hope everlasting, of Heavenly grace bestowed upon those of true faith, of real understanding, of great sensitivity, and of celestial awareness (or even in those who love and cry, who give generously and listen with patience), to me all of that sums up this serene and reflective masterpiece, this masterpiece that really touches the heart, and that gently soothes the heartstrings, whispering echoes of inspiration and reassurance, all while moving one in ways that are both loving and mystical, all that sadness giving way to this newfound sense of solace, of hope blossoming, of ethereal validation, of spiritual fulfillment and of loved ones finally reunited, that sublime and all healing rebirth, the afterlife revealed in all its divine magnificence, once all of the rainfall of life has mercifully dissipated, thus heralding eternal peace at last. That's what this deeply stirring and sweetly touching piece means to me, my spirit, and my soul everlasting. Thomas Newman cannot be praised enough, as this melancholic and quietly contemplative piece promises undying hope and inspiration, driven by solemn reflection yet offering eternal solace and understanding at the same time, that Heavenly fulfillment and vindication that we all yearn for, and which awaits us all, once all that Earthly pain and heartbreak melts away. Incredibly soothing and reassuring, and transcendent in its timelessness, I could float off to the otherworld accompanied by this heartfelt and beautifully poignant masterpiece, its gentle sounds and lovely, graceful violin, along with piano keys that hit all the right chords, those chords of sensitivity and longing. Thank you Thomas Newman. Thank you.
When people ask if Michael Sullivan was a good man.... or if there wasn't any good in him at all. I always say the same thing ......he was my father..... (tear) xx :D
I'm not going to get frustrated at the number of people who clicked "dislike". Nor am I going to come up with some clever pun on the matter. I'm just going to sit and let the music flow through me, because it's simply beautiful.
Totally. Probably a lot of people thought my father was one way, and that was that. But each man man carries a story, his story, and few people get to know that story. My dad was all right ... and I know that ... because he was my father.
I'm spending time with my three month old baby. And this music displays truly how much love I have for him. This is was so beautiful 🥺. Thanks for giving it to us 🙏🏽.
I lost my Mom{80} and Dad{89} this past March 2024, also lost one of my beloved cats in the same month actually on my Moms bday. My Mom was a HS music teacher, the piano was her instrument and she could play so well. I used to share music I liked with her, I unfortunately didn't find this until after she passed but I know she would have loved it. Listening to it allows me to let go of the pain and emotions I feel each day and I can think back of the times I had with them. Truly an amazing song......

Possa esserci sempre amore in tutti i cuori.
Is there a point in putting a dislike on this song..? It doesn't give it , its due.. It is a beautiful song that brings you back to those days when everything was perfect , You had the person you loved and you couldn't be happier.. It makes me happy , I hope it makes everyone else happy because this music should be shared with everyone and everything.
Failure to appreciate such music renders a life not worth living. Thomas Newman's musical style is able to touch the deepest corners of our hearts. It reminds us that life can be full of beauty, in spite of all the harshness and evil that exist in this inperfect world.
Thomas Newman and his music, a gift to us all. I think I've mellowed a bit with age because when I was younger, I would have shunned this. Foolish, but I am glad I came around because this is beautiful music, and I can't imagine not being able to listen to it again.
just makes me wonder if each note has a soul like every human being. . . when i listen to this song and think, i feel like im having a conversation with another soul every note speaks in such a loud voice yet its so suttle most look and move on. . . . the depth of emotions, chills, and thrills music gives me. . . . thomas newman i hope to meet you before i die, you have a talent that is greater than anyone else in the world to me. your music flows through my veins when i'm in love, when i do something that takes me out of my comfort zone, when I'm with people i love and most of all when i realise how beautiful life is . nothing compares to how beautiful your music is
Great... I remember in 2010 l had something l was chasing, a dream. Every night before l slept l would play this song and picture myself living my dreams. It was beautiful. It's 2012 now and l can say my dream came true. DON'T GIVE UP ON YOUR DREAMS!!!!!
I read the comments on this tune before listening to it, and thought what a bunch of loved up hippies! Then...I listened to the tune...if their ever was a piece of music that could describe the fragility of humanity I think this is it. Beautiful, captivating, dark, hopeful, peaceful, the list of feelings and emotions that this piece of music paints is endless...simply amazing.
so many people say how their feelings run so deep when listening to newman i find that it helps me find serenity and peace when i need it but because its so overwhelming i can't express anything else.
I listen to this type of music every now and again...but when i listen, its like i never heard anything more Beautiful in my life...Every time i listen its a new experience.. This makes me Wonder...Amazing..
Thomas Newman knows how to make a film score hit you with emotion. if you love this try his track "The Letter That Never Came" from A Series of Unfortunate Events.
I saw this movie in the theatre with my father and the music makes me cry because I know I love my dad so much and don't know what I'd do without him...
***** it makes us realize the true beauty of our lives and what we would do without those things - hence the tears of joy/thankfullness ...im just spitballin here
The people who dislike this track have absolutely no reason to listen to it in the first place, it's not exactly something you stumble upon by accident and decide you don't like. Thomas Newman is an excellent composer, as is his cousin Randy.
Whenever I'm depressed or upset I just listen to this musical masterpiece and all my problems just melt away. The music transports me to another world, a place without any of lifes problems. Oh how I wish I could live there forever...
Have thought about you everyday for the last 5 yrs, and no it doesn't get better. Run free my innocent best natured dog who was too good for this world. I'll see you when I get there.
Regardless of my mood before hearing his music, I am always transported somewhere else. Newman's work has such emotional sweep, it just pierces my heart open. On a different note (no pun intended), his music is so different to his cousin, Randy Newman. I would love to be a fly on the wall to see and hear the process of creating a piece of music. His work always has a way of touching a deep part of my spirit. I often wonder what music / artists he enjoys listening to.
this song makes me think of those days to come when not a day will go by where i dont think of her in some way and not a night will i sleep where i dont dream of her. im going to miss her so much....she made me into a better man than i was before. we both try not to think about it but in the end all we want to do is to hold eachother. all she wants is to be in my arms where she feels warm safe nd secure. she doesnt want to leave me, nd i dont wanna let her go....
I have been very ill for sometime now and recently lost my mum at 97 yrs she could see me failing and had said she was terrified I would go before her, well I will see her soon and this beautiful music will always stay with me
I have seen the movie to which affects one heart. The scenes depict thisngs we may have seen or fantasized about. I have found through my travels that we live in wonderful place filled with beauty, sad to say there is also ugliness also. To have this music made a by a fabulous composer like Newman is beauty. The scenes cover many areas or thought & imagination. Ride a bicycle on summer day with the sun or rain on your face through a park filled with trees, ski through the white snow fresh a clear air in your lungs, wake up an enjoy the full moon & the stars above at 4 in the morning. enjoy the life you have for there is more to come later, Peace 2 ya
This is amazing. So pure but...sage and experienced. It sounds like the sound of baby crying but an old man dying. I can't explain. It just removes all of the material things of time and appreciates the beautiful, inevitable cycle we are all in. Not trapped - but comforting.
Profoundly ethereal & bittersweet, listening to this soulful masterpiece is like drifting off to the heavens far away, all while floating weightlessly, in spirit form, through the celestial patterns of space, like an astronaut untethered & naked, feeling free & unburdened, yet with feelings of deep sadness & regret rising, rising with an evocative poignancy, a poignancy that is as solemn & reflective as it is heartbreaking, eventually to be overtaken & replaced by a sense of refreshing hope, real hope, along with these depths of true, wondrously soothing redemption, almost as though you are being carried up & beyond it all by the gentle & loving hands of God, yearning for the past as you look forward to the future & all that that promises. Those are the visions & emotions that are conjured, magically so, all upon soaking up the divinely beautiful sounds of this timeless musical masterpiece, one that brings about this pure tranquility along with a feeling of sublimely transcendent detachment, detachment from this Earthly paradise as I await the open, loving arms of another, more spiritual & healing one.
I too love Thomas Newman's music. I have for many years. I love his music so much that I have told everyone about him. Good to see that their are other people who like him as I do.
I was born and raised in Geneva, Illinois. That's the place where they filmed the shootout. It's a really cool feeling to throw on the ipod at night and walk the empty, ambiently glowing streets while listening to this song. It gives me a great sense of humility to know that stories like this have actually happened, where people's character was tested. I'm only 21 years old and have a lot of learning to do about life. This this movie opened my eyes.
this music makes me feel strangely humbled; that the world is vast and i am an insignificant dot compared to it. Yet it has the power to bring me happiness and reminds me what a beautiful world i'm living in... just beautiful!
When British composer John Barry retired, I thought I would never find another composer who did musical scores like he did, and then I watched Little Women back in 1991and just had to know who did the music and it was Thomas Newman. He has improved much more since then. His music pulls you into the movie and you stay there until the words end. It reaches your soul and you do not want to stop listening because of how it makes you feel. I think he is the best. The Newman family is very talented but I think he is the best. I loved James Horner's work for Titanic and Braveheart but nothing compares to Thomas Newman where it just lifts you up. Thank you for this.
One of the best pieces of music ever made, Fullstop. Great music to listen to when refelcting on the things you have done in your life and the people in it. One of the greatest artists and composers ever to walk this earth, thank you Thomas Newman.
this song came to me as in a key moment in life: either keep waiting for a girl who left and i'll never see again, or live my life and be happy again... it's been 8 years, but when i hear the song i now can say i have good memories... and made the right choice :)
This song just makes me feel so peaceful, like i'm at home with my family and were all just looking at each other and we know everything will be okay. It even even makes me imagine myself when i'm older when i'll have kids, and i'm watching them run around and I just feel so proud and at ease.
Thomas Newman is my all time favourite film music composer, and this is amongst his best work I think. Never tire of listening to it. Also love American Beauty and Meet Joe Black - his haunting melodies just give you goosebumps. Thanks for sharing. Makes me want to watch the film all over again. :)
Thomas newman is an absolute genious. The world is so loud and noisy. Listening to music like this is one of the most peacefull thoughtfull reflecting feelings ever,
@150VJonny I want to thank you for have putting your life on the line to protect the liberties and freedoms that I, and many other Americans, so often take for granted. Soldiers like you and your fallen brethren are true Patriots and I can't thank you enough for having to endure the hell that is war. God bless you and I hope you have a great life.

Hope you're still around to hear it again mate
I hope you're now healthy
Wherever you are hope you are doing great
poingant music in all senses of that word
Listening to Thomas Newman helps me believe that everything is okay.
Why Thomas Newman doesn't have an Oscar is beyond me. Favorite piece of music from any film ever made. Stunning.
Agreed. They really missed the boat on Shawshank, then whiffed again with American Beauty, Finding Nemo and Road to Perdition.
funny because Shawshank Redemption became and still remains one of the most iconic scores of all time.
yes
He's far beyond that shit mate.

Hard to believe Road to Perdition is a twenty year old movie already. Superb film, quite underrated, with a beautiful score by Newman.
Thomas Newman's music is always inexplicably cathartic

Wow, I just cried for the first time in ages, Thomas Newman is one of the most talented composers I have ever heard, he does'nt get enough credit.

Sometimes I just wanna know if Thomas Newman has found the secret of life. He probably has.
he's found the secret of music and that is part of life
What does it mean ?
"He who understands music understands the cosmos." -Egyptian proverb
Probably wants to share that to his music
There is no secret to life because God created everything even through people

Those are the visions & emotions that are conjured, magically so, all upon soaking up the divinely beautiful sounds of this timeless musical masterpiece, one that brings about this pure tranquility along with a feeling of sublimely transcendent detachment, detachment from this Earthly paradise as I await the open, loving arms of another, more spiritual & healing one.
This is my favorite Thomas Newman song. It brings me to tears and makes me feel as if everything is going to be alright.
I want everything to be as beautiful as a Thomas Newman piece.
Thomas Newman, you are a god. Who else can stuff so much emotion into 4 minutes??
Like a hug from a grown child that won't let go 1st....pure love and joy
These images are as beautiful as the music. Thank you.
With the passing of the great and legendary Ennio Morricone we are still lucky to have Thomas Newman.
I too love Thomas Newman's music. I have for many years. I love his music so much that I have told everyone about him. Good to see that their are other people who like him as I do.
thomas newman's music is hauntingly beautiful & the pictures are absolutely beautiful. well done!
When Listening to such music it feels like time pauses and the weight of the world is taken off your shoulders, Beautiful.
this song is taking me to a realm where it is so peaceful... so much love
this music makes me feel strangely humbled; that the world is vast and i am an insignificant dot compared to it.
Beautiful. Music has such a huge impact on a movie yet it is taken for granted most of the time.
Beautiful music and one of the best films ever made road to perdition.
I think ive watched this about 200 times and it never gets any less beautiful.
this song came to me as in a key moment in life: either keep waiting for a girl who left and i'll never see again, or live my life and be happy again... it's been 8 years, but when i hear the song i now can say i have good memories... and made the right choice :)
Newman is such an amzing composer!
Out of all his music I like this best!
Very beautiful music from the gread Thomas Newman. We love you! Go on!
