There used to be a Haughton Manually Controlled elevator near me, but it got ruined by a fire caused by the motor explosion.

Them not using that inner-gate & bypassing the gate-switch is definitely a code violation. I looked at the most recent inspection record for this & no violations are listed. Weird. Wonder how they got away w/ that. Probably a lazy inspector.

I noticed it too, the cab gate was open elevator should not have moved with the gate open the interlock is bypassed. Yes, a code and safety violation. The freight elevator at my old job did not have an inner gate, but each landing had electric/mechanical interlocks on the gates one open contact (being wired in series) shut the whole elevator down a gate not secured all the way etc. As it was supposed to. This elevator ought to have written up red tagged "out of service until the fault was corrected"
