I'd like to add that they are all very young in this video as you can tell from Joshua's solo style and look at Brian Blade! Old Newport Jazz - very traditional - I am enjoying it.
Whoo! Brad Mehldau quoting Bobby Timmons Whaaa! All of them paid their dues allright. No proprer modern music can exist without respect for and knowledge of the traditions.
@songsmadeforyou I have a friend who once felt nauseous on a boat because the engine noise was flat. I must say I laughed for about five minutes when I saw your comment, thank you very much.
This Guy is insane! Haha Amazin, he does what he wants exactly how he wants it...aaaa I wish I could just pick my horn up and belt out some Redman! Also that sexy lookin sax he's playing would look great in my life :P
it's nice to hear mehldau playing straight ahead once in a while...but i'm glad he doesn't always play this way. his innovation is what makes him unique, and as good as he plays in this video, i'm glad he branched out and took on his own identity.
TripleOctaveMusic. Take some deep breaths. This would not sound nearly as cool without the rhythm section. Or even with virtually any other rhythm section there. They all know each other so way, and play like it.
this is like the all-star game of jazz
a smokin' trio with a hell of a saxophone player...
i like.

They can do all that wonder modern jazz phrasing and still swing a lot! One of the best performances of this quartet i've ever heard
Whoa Redman on a VI instead of his trusty Super Action?? An odd sight to see.
This may be the best Mehldau clip ever - his Wynton Kelly chops are amazing
mmm that's swinging baby! awesome
Fantastico!
wow. just wow
the passion and energy are inspiring
all 4 players are incredible
awesome clip
damn brian blade can play any jazz. and listen that comping so tastful
Show de fraseados!!!muito bom esse vídeo! To Brazil!
Whoo! Brad Mehldau quoting Bobby Timmons Whaaa! All of them paid their dues allright. No proprer modern music can exist without respect for and knowledge of the traditions.
Mmm.. Yes! This is some good stuff!
What a bunch of professionals.
great blues.....awsome bass solo at 6:28.
the VHS tape hiss is playing the 3rd; which sounds good over the I7 chord but it's pretty dissonant over the IV7!
AWW PLAY IT!!!
Sounds of this blues and solo by Brian Blade are more interesting on jazz fest in Umbria.
@RabbitIon just perfect
Check out Barcelona Crossing w/ Perico Sambeat. It's 2 volumes of pretty straight ahead Mehldau. They're 2 of the best albums I own.
Brad Mehldau il nero piu bianco che ci sia.. : )
grandissimoooooooo
@bigdaveV12 Well and that's Nate McMillan from the Portland Trailblazers on bass. Who knew?
@bigdaveV12 You are so awesome.
5:26 to 5:33 sounds like lasers of love shooting at you it's so beautiful :-)
redman n mehldau.. lol DAMN!! lol
@bigdaveV12 you got damn right....
Redman was playing his ass off then lol!!! I wish he would go back to that setup with that Mark VI.
@songsmadeforyou

brad playing straightahead??
AWESOME
Brad swings so hard - I've never heard this side of him! What albums are there where he's rippin' it up like this?!
@songsmadeforyou Also cool for 13th over V7 chord ;-)
@BlueinGreen2 Check out his solo on Anthropology from When I Fall in Love (by the "Mehldau & Rossy Trio"). That shit will blow your mind.
shit! brad can play blues! great
This Guy is insane! Haha Amazin, he does what he wants exactly how he wants it...aaaa I wish I could just pick my horn up and belt out some Redman!
Also that sexy lookin sax he's playing would look great in my life :P
yea dude i just saw him today
funny thing is..... christian has gotten SO much better since this
Scary how great Brad was..Unbelievable.
I'm pretty sure he uses a florida otto link STM, but sometiems he will use the HR otto links or a birlhart. But here it is definately the STM
2:06 YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH
Yeah

Steamin'
@TripleOctaveMusic dude, do you even know who those "other bloody musicians" are??? I mean, I'd watch a full solo concert of any of them....
Joshua Redman - Blues On Sunday .
Around 1994 I think.
they look like they're just out of college :D hahaha Great climaxing Mehldau solo
fuckin dope
@ledzepdennis Will do man, thanks a lot. Spotify is pathetic and doesn't have it but I'll let you know when I get a listen of it.
@bigdaveV12 who?
I make mistake.Piano,of course,Mehldau.Pardon!
anybody know what key this is in?
HOOOOOOLY SHIT!
This is actually his MK VI look at the neck
To morkus26: I couldnt agree more!
The pianist makes me want to fix my posture lol beasty players!
I've seen joshua uses some different mouthpiece.. metal or hardrubber mouthpiece. What about this, it doesn't seem an ottolink.
thx
eh, i'd guess like 1994 or mid 90s... that's when this quartet toured
i know wat mouthpiece this iz i just completely forgot the name, i'll post it when i rememba lol
well it's not the VI that makes him sound soft. That's a mouthpiece/reed situation. maybe he needed harder reeds or a more open mouthpiece.

Joshua looks like he looks like a new born that just came out of the delivery room.....
the job of the bass player is to follow the soloist in a solo situation so mcbride is doing his job
鬼才ブラッド・メルドー、マクブライトを擁した頃の、気鋭のジョシュア・レッドマン、五反田郵便貯金ホールで見たのは、この陣容だったかな!?~#jazzm 鋭き4人
Hmm. Interesting response.
by the looks of the neck logo, its a ref 54, or maybe 34.
He looks more like Jeter every single day
I think he played better then than now. I think he sold out quite frankly. Still a genius.
redman è pazzesco...cmq è un balance non un mark vi
no it's a mak vi
religious ? and the rest you said... what ?
