    This was unfortunately not one of the most exciting days on this tour. A lot of traffic in this area, which made it difficult to film and document the day. But the coming days were fantastic, some of the best days I've had on the bike. Looking forward to sharing those videos with you!

    Thanks for sharing Mike. It looked a hard day and 100 km at the beginning of a tour is pushing yourself. I'm looking forward to tomorrow in Florence.

      Yeah, it was way too long. But sometimes the campgrounds are far and few between and you have to put in the extra effort to be able to reach one. And my talk in the end about an easier day tomorrow. Mental note to self: never say stuff like that, it's just going to come back and bite you in the **** in the end. Just wait and see...

    Looks familiar, I also visited these towns by bike and stayed on the campground at Florence. Good times, thanks Mike.

      That was a nice campground, but I remember that when I arrived there at the end of the day not being to thrilled about cycling uphill again to be able to reach the campsites ;-)

    A lot of history there. Thanks for sharing some of it. Another nice video. Roads appear to be pretty narrow. Take care, Al

      That's Italy for you. A lot of history, culture and narrow roads. It think it's due to the fact that those roads were probably laid hundreeds of years before automobiles were ever invented.

      @@BikeTouringMike Hi Mikael, in Sardinia it was nice but it was very hot with temperatures reaching 35 degrees in the 1st week. Now we are in Bergamo, and, between rain and thunderstorms, autumn has arrived. Now we end the cycling season with a few laps in our area. If you want to return to Italy another year, remember that you can always count on us. Bye /Giancarlo e Cristina

    Great ride! Beautiful scenic trail along the river.
    That climb to San Minato reminds me of the climb I did this summer to Arraiolos in southern region of Alentejo. It was brutal, with 35 degrees after 75 km...

      @BikeTouringMike  3 года назад +2

      This was only the first of many of crazy climbs, a lot more to come in the coming weeks. Somehow I always manage to find them at the end of the day. Well, often a nice shower awaits me when I reach the campground, that's always a comfort.

    Very beautiful town and buildings .... rich in history as well. May I know what's the campsite fees for a tent? Thanks for the amazing videos you made as always. Look forward to your next episode.

    • @BikeTouringMike
      @BikeTouringMike  3 года назад +1

      I'll be talking more about campiste fees throughout the series. In fact there will be a whole video dedicated to campground life in Italy coming up. But in general they were between 16-18 Euros (18-21 USD) for one person, a bike and a tent. But then again this was in the low season, so you can expect somewhat more expensive fees during the high season, probably around 50% extra.

      Thank you Mark! No, there were a lot less Vespas than I had expected to see. I think everyone has gone over to driving cars instead. According to Giancarlo & Christina (the nice couple from the first day) a typical Italian family owns about 3-4 cars.

      Yeah, I was way in over my head this time around. I did take a little bit easier during the coming days. I looked at Eurovelo.com to find my main route, but ended up choosing lots of other roads as I went along. Out on the road I relied a lot on Komoot and Google Maps to get around.

  • @WheelsonaBike
    @WheelsonaBike 3 года назад +1

    A 100KM day is a long day. Good on you for doing that on your second day. Also, the roads on the way to the Campsite were so narrow! Is this typical in Italy? How do cars pass each other?

    • @BikeTouringMike
      @BikeTouringMike  3 года назад +2

      Sometimes the campgrounds are few and far between, and this was one of those times. A lot of the roads out in the countryside are that narrow, and sometimes even roads that go through old medieval towns as well. It's part of the charm of italy I think. Keeps us reminded that those roads were probably there hundreds, if not thousands of years before people were driving cars on them.

    • @WheelsonaBike
      @WheelsonaBike 3 года назад

      @@BikeTouringMike Yes! It reminds us that people lived WITHOUT cars at a certain point. Mind blowing! (a bit of sarcasm here)

    • @BikeTouringMike
      @BikeTouringMike  3 года назад +1

      Most of them seem to close the last week of September. I didn't run into any that were closed for the season. I learned a lesson from my trip in France two years ago, when I was touring in Provence in October. Almost every campground were closed by then, which made it very difficult to find a place to sleep at night.

    • @scottlawson9899
      @scottlawson9899 3 года назад

      @@BikeTouringMike Yes, that's what I was thinking. I just rewatched the France videos. If I do this time of year I'll have to plan on a few hotels to get cleaned up every few days.

    Hi Mike, can I find somewhere the GPX track of the whole trip or a list of campgrounds you visited? I am going to Italy next summer and I have found out that Italy is not a camping-friendly country. There are very few campgrounds available and they are expensive.
