🇮🇩 PARADISE in INDONESIA (First Visit to Lake Toba!!) Samosir Island, Sumatra

- Without a doubt one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited in my life, Samosir Island in North Sumatra is truly one of a kind. For nature, for food, for rich local culture (and personally, there's even incredible cycling here too!), I would say this is a place that has it all when it comes to things worth traveling to find.
This is LAKE TOBA Day 1.
Visiting with my family here in early 2024, we actually came after a change of plans, how lucky we are to have such an "accident" as to visit Lake Toba. My best friend has always come back to stories from a trip of his own, and so I have always had it in my mind to someday try and visit for myself. Now that these stories are almost 15 years old, I can still say that there is every reason to remember, and now I myself will never forget!
Today is a short video, we are doing a ton of stuff and working a lot (both jobs full-on right now), and so I will thank you as always for being so gracious as to watch, maybe even send us a comment, and be ready for the next video next week Monday.
There will be 4 videos in total from Lake Toba, and I cannot wait to share more of the scenes and stories as we go. For now, be well, I hope this finds you smiling!

visited lake toba several years ago, tranquil place! but a bit inconvenient to reach for international tourist, few hours drive from medan

I'm from North Sulawesi province and i never visit to sumatera Island, it's very far away from North Sulawesi Island to go to sumatera island. we need to flight by airplane or by ship to travel across by the sea to can reach to destination from North Sulawesi province to North Sumatra province. the capital City of North Sulawesi province is Manado.
i born in another part of manado city that we called tondano in minahasa land. in tondano also have a lake called Danau Tondano means Lake Tondano. and there are another lake in tomohon city called Danau Linow. you can view Mount Lokon and climb it to the mount lokon while you are visit tomohon in North Sulawesi province.

I apologize in advance, Joel, I’m going to sound like a broken record, but Samosir Island (roughly the same size of Singapore BTW) is literally 99% Christian and you somehow managed to eat a Muslim eatery selling normal dishes that you can easily find in other provinces in Indonesia 😢
On the topic of hot food and chillies, the province of North Sumatra in particular likes to use _andaliman_ peppers, which, like Sichuan peppers, leave your tongue tingling. They usually use it in a chili dip for roast pork, I hope you got to try them while you were there.

It’s just I’ve met too many foreigners who told me that they ate the same things over and over again in Indonesia, and they concluded that the country only has a very limited number of dishes when it was their own fault for choosing the same type of establishments over and over again. 😩

Please advise viewers you are eating pre made cup of noodle ramen noodles with these dishes. This is very common in Indo/Sumatra. Hand made noodles are very rare in this part of the world. People follow your advise and travel to these destinations based on your videos. You know what you're eating brother! Please don't mislead your subscribers.

Antonio! Amazing message, yes! If youre heading to Sumatra, yes I recommend Lake Toba as number 1. I would say that because of the travel time required to get there (its going to be minimum 4 hours each way from Medan airport to TukTuk on Samosir Island, 6 hours if you are going during a holiday time), I think 3 days would be the minimum time, I would recommend 5-6 days to really feel relaxed. So if you look at a map, find Ambarita, that's the name of the ferry you will take to the island of Samosir, and then all around that ferry terminal there will be over 100 guest houses and hotels, there is a lot of accommodation there.

Good thing you took the footage with a drone. Because as you know the whole place is knee deep in plastic rubbish. Not to mention the sewerage that is pumped into the lake. Or the fact that locals deliberately remove the mufflers from their motorbikes to make them as loud as possible therefore denying any sleep. Or the open sewer drains right out front of the eateries. Prime example of a video edited to create an illusion for views and not an accurate representation at all. People do the same with Bali too.
