So initially I was under the impression Bobcat was going to integrate an auxillary oil cooler into this particular machine for hydraulic oil temperature control. My gripe with all the major compact track machine manufacturers is they say you can run attachments such as a Diamond forestry head or FAE mulcher and the machines will keep the hydraulic oil cool enough to run in summertime. That is not the case in any of the three machines I've tried; Tak, Bobcat or John Deere. Was hoping this machine would solve that problem. Doesn't appear they did that.
They did solve it, and now it’s proven by scores of T86 running forestry heads in Texas and all over the Deep South last summer, I’m talking triple digit heat 8 hour days with fluid temps hovering around 150 degrees. It’s quite remarkable, and why I bought one last week, T86 is now one of only two machines that can claim this with just the factory cooling system, the other is the ASV RT135 but that’s more of a dedicated mulching tractor and riddled with issues. I’ve personally kept in touch with around 15 guys running T86’s for the last 12 months and ALL of them have been bulletproof. Phenomenal machine.

Wow great video thanks so much ,my company runs one s870 and three t770 two have had fuel issues and the 870 also blew pump seals and filled the chain case with hydraulic fluid.now all the bugs are fixed and they are great machines.you have really taught a old dog a lot about these machines thanks again bud
I'm glad you stated from a mechanic's standpoint only. After a few short years and so many hours these machines become a bleeding pig to the wallet !!!! Technology today comes with a enormous cost to maintain and repair down the road. I used to service a fleet of g-series 773's. They're all still in service .
I got a G series and have had minimal issues that I’ve been able to service on my own with a couple good manuals. Aside from tracks and undercarriage it’s given me no issues.
The review is well done and informative. Similar to competition the serviceability in the engine compartment looks absolutely brutal. Also, I am not a fan of the rear visibility on these Bobcats either. You can’t see behind you for love nor money same as prior Bobcat models….and this is very important if you’ve spent any amount of time operating these machines in the real world.
Can you please make a short video about the operation of the t870 hydraulic track tension system? I put new tracks on mine and i want to understand exactly how they are supposed to function during and after track changes
Seeing a T86 I would have major concerns on its design. The T86 has exposed driveline motor lines on the underside of the machine. When mulching they will get broken. The T86 has a grate on top for air intake instead of a precleaner assembly. The air cleaner will clog with dirt quickly in dusty environments or while mulching. What looks like a serious concern to me also is the location of a good portion of wiring harness and the Ecu being located on the bottom of the compartment. Any of us who have owned track loaders know that mud and water finds it way into the bottom of the compartment. Its ridiculous to place it there. What do you think will happen to the Ecu and connectors when you get stuck in deep mud or a creek? How could Bobcat finally design a well built machine capable of mulching with the right pump and good flow only to completely F up and make critical design mistakes like the ones I mentioned. When a company is completely disconnected from the end use this is what happens. They got it right in so many ways but then totally screwed up on critical machine killing details. Thanks for taking the time to make the video to show us the machine though. Very informative.

I’ve been more impressed with the past Kubota engines than the newer Doosan engines. Our S570 air box cleaner is such a pain, and the fuel rail shows so much rust, yet we don’t use it in winter. But our older T590, powered by Kubota, is night and day better..just seems like maintenance overall is easier. BTW, your videos are great learning tools.
Looking to possibly replace my 2018 T770 with one of these, current Hrs 2600. I've been told to bump up my case drain to a 5/8 line straight to tank. and run 1" lines to my couplers. also have a couple guys telling me to crank up the main relief valve. I mainly forestry mulch and stump grind. But if I'm beating a dead horse and its time to replace the machine I'm curious of the case drain line size on the t86 also concerned with debris getting into the belly pan. Not uncommon to find mud holes in my line of work. Not sure if its best to fix up what I have now or try one of the R series out.
I got one on the way. Its taking a long time. I'm excited but a little bummed by the loosening 12" of lift. I've got the new 48" planer sitting in my shop all lonely.
How could you run a mulcher with hydraulic hood when the auxiliary is only two hoses? So you wouldn't have a second auxiliary circuit to use the hydraulic hood? Thanks

Wonder what durability is on the new machine. My buddy bought a t76 and has trouble every time is gets wet. It starts throwing codes bobcat could not fix it so he had to trade for another brand.
I’m looking to buy a t770 with the Diamond 48 disk mulcher. I figured the 48 may be a little easier on the hydraulic system would like to go a little bigger on the mulcher but I am scared. A lot of videos show the overheating issue and I’m just not sure. Not holding you too anything but what is to be expected with the combo I have picked out haha . Are there any major issues with the 770?
Great video. I don’t think I’d have the patience for the tight quarters trying to change hoses etc. but that’s on all skid steers not just this one. They have to pack 10#s of poo in a 5# diaper. !

Main issues I have with 299s are the final drive hoses being exposed between the frame and the drive. If this machine will be in the woods how does it look between the frame and finals? Need to see the guarding there please.
Well, it will use 1 tank of DEF to every two tanks of fuel. This is more frequent than the M Series due to smaller tank and the fact it does not have an ERG which requires more DEF to remain emissions compliant.
Hey HowIDidIt i have a T86 throwing code C10A5-16 Pump Case Drain Hydraulic oil temp out of range Low. I was running my stump grinder when it did it. hydraulic fluid is full and hydraulic temp is right at 125 degrees when it happened, is that to cold and maybe whats causing the issue? The dealer checked the OHMs on both temp sensors and it was 745 (supposed to be normal) I guess. They cleaned out the hydraulic fan solenoid as it seemed stuck and to cold for running temp and seems fine now after being pulled and cleaned. What is your opinion is it pops up again? thanks!
Out of range low is possible loose plug at sensor or wiring issue. The case drain manifold under the cab has a filter on it, there you will find a couple temp sensors. Check connections or swap plugs and see if code changes.
@dillon40R depends on the source of the issue. If it's a bad sensor then the code would change to motor case drain temp code. If it's wiring then the code would not change.
There is definetly some weird stuff going on. Calculated hydraulic hp on superflow is greater than the engine output which is just not possible. Intersting
If the machine were running at max flow over relief pressure, I'm calculating 99.5 hydraulic horse power. That would kill the engine but the engine is rated at 105hp.
@@tetradgroup I wonder at what point does the superflow even matter? My tl12r2 high flow is 40gpm and produces 84 hydraulic hp with 115 hp but can still stall the motor with the mulching head. So is super flow even worth it because the power is unusable?
I see the engine is packed in there, we 100% forestry mulching, how easy is it to keep cleaned out?? Looks really hard, would love to get away from our Cats.

So If they built the machine bigger Then the room to work on would make it easier With a release to take the cab out of the way Modern battery to tuck it away nicer Sure all improvements = more $'s Theres a bit of competition now with other brands But in time Improvements will get better Like travel with super flow on Its probably like closing a value on the travel speed to maintain pump flow They haven't figured that one out yet That cab lift didnt look smooth Perhaps a cab lift that can tilt all the way over to where the roof sits on the ground An engineers dream job Thank you

LIke almost everything made these days … instead of making things bulletproof there is the desire for more complexity. Ultimately it leads to lots of expensive repairs and frustration. KISS should be the engineers motto …

Oh my god no space to work on this machine, hoses are every place and all the electronics! Not an owner operator friendly machine. May work assume when it is working but it will need to be repaired and owner operator is out of the game. If one is only an operator this is the machine to operate.
Seriously? If a display staying on is the best example you got of a common failure you deal with to share, that problem hardly condemns the series as junk. Especially since stay on issues are so easily diagnosed. 👊
@@jaxturner7288 no the r series suck lmao a brand new machine should not have this many electrical issues. The cabs are heavier on the the design of the air box for the ac is bulky and awkward to lower the cab can be a pain by yourself. The battery location can be a pain. The main harness where it goes through the firewall can be a pain in the ass. God forbid you have to replace a left awash plate sensor that’s a total bitch to do. The def injector is a pain to get to. V2 engine analyzer isn’t the greatest tool to help trouble shoot those engines. As far as leak back test on those injectors good luck unless you make your own fittings to plug into the injectors that will cost you about $100 for just the fittings. The oil filter locations make catching the excess oil a pain. More than likely there will be a mess to clean up. The push lock hydraulic hoses are a pain in the ass to have made at a local hose shop. The fact that most of the new ones run blue hydraulic oil now sometimes red means service techs have to carry more oil. Yeah all in all they suck. Go work on them for a change and tell me what you think.

@@pigslayer106 nope, especially on the older machines with old style metal case drain filters but I wouldn't worry about it with a spin on filter as they are much better. I haven't seen blown seals since the spin filters came out so that would be an extremely rare case but possible none the less

Cockpit is good, debris is a daily struggle.

I was a tech for bobcat for about a year. We had somany issues with weird eletrical issues bobcat ever fix those?

V1 was Delphi, the upgraded V2 has the Bosch fuel system. You are correct the new Toolcats UW53 and UW56 have the upgraded V2 engine with Bosch.

It is possible but I have not done a T66 yet, usually the conversion is between $5k - $7k

Have you looked at the D3? I believe your concern has been addressed w a new hose routing block.

Did they do away with the belt drive hydraulic pump? Looks that way. That was the worst thing.
Yep, R-Series are in-line now with a coupler. No more drive belts.

Oh my god no space to work on this machine, hoses are every place and all the electronics! Not an owner operator friendly machine. May work assume when it is working but it will need to be repaired and owner operator is out of the game. If one is only an operator this is the machine to operate.

The r series machines are absolute junk been dealing with lots of electrical issues dealing with displays staying on and stuff like that.
Seriously? If a display staying on is the best example you got of a common failure you deal with to share, that problem hardly condemns the series as junk.
Especially since stay on issues are so easily diagnosed. 👊
@@jaxturner7288 no the r series suck lmao a brand new machine should not have this many electrical issues. The cabs are heavier on the the design of the air box for the ac is bulky and awkward to lower the cab can be a pain by yourself. The battery location can be a pain. The main harness where it goes through the firewall can be a pain in the ass. God forbid you have to replace a left awash plate sensor that’s a total bitch to do. The def injector is a pain to get to. V2 engine analyzer isn’t the greatest tool to help trouble shoot those engines. As far as leak back test on those injectors good luck unless you make your own fittings to plug into the injectors that will cost you about $100 for just the fittings. The oil filter locations make catching the excess oil a pain. More than likely there will be a mess to clean up. The push lock hydraulic hoses are a pain in the ass to have made at a local hose shop. The fact that most of the new ones run blue hydraulic oil now sometimes red means service techs have to carry more oil. Yeah all in all they suck. Go work on them for a change and tell me what you think.

@@jaxturner7288 🤣 not my first week at all but right on boss man. All in all the r series are still junk ass machines that’s still what this is about. I guess they are better than a JCB but other than that they suck. I’m sure you’ve worked on way more things, different product lines than me 🙄🤣.

Wow that air intake location looks like it will work a lot better. Also, how often is the case drain filter supposed to be changed on a T76? And what happens If it does not get changed?

I would change the case drain every 500 hours, worst case a clogged case drain filter could cause blown drive motor seals.
@@tetradgroup does a clogged case drain show any symptoms before it blows the drive motor seals?
@@pigslayer106 nope, especially on the older machines with old style metal case drain filters but I wouldn't worry about it with a spin on filter as they are much better. I haven't seen blown seals since the spin filters came out so that would be an extremely rare case but possible none the less
