- The perfect day trip from Fukuoka, Japan!
Just an hour east of Fukuoka lies #kitakyushu : Kyushu's northernmost city. Home to Kokura, an ancient castle town that is considered lucky by Japanese for escaping the atomic bomb not once, but twice. Originally the target for both bombs, Kokura evaded destruction on both occasions due to cloud coverage on the day of the bombings.
Today, this peaceful riverside town is full of charming surprises-- many of them revolving around bread! Famed for its local bakeries, including Shiroya Bakery's cream-filled spongecake 'omelettes', this town also hosts Kyushu's largest Japanese bread festival right across from Kokura Castle (小倉城).
Wondering how to plan this Fukuoka day trip?
Here's our list of things to do and what eat in Kitakyushu, Japan: 🍞
- Kokura Castle & Park Market ( 門司港春のパンまつり ), North Kyushu’s largest Japanese bread festival
- The best tamago sandwich we’ve ever had! Saiko!
- Kokura Castle 小倉城 and Kokura Castle Garden
- Thrifting outside Riverwalk Kitakyushu
- Vintage shopping in the Uomachi 魚町 neighborhood
- Shiroya Bakery Kokura シロヤベーカリー 小倉店
- Il Forno del Mignon クラウン 京町店 / ミニヨン 京町店
- Riverside shopping at Montbell
Plus, we end the day with the best tempura in Fukuoka: Tempura Hirao!

Ralph-San has made a full recovery ! 😃
When I went to Fukuoka on a business trip, my stomach was assaulted by delicious food, just like Ralph-San did last time 😅
Still, a cute navy fish cap ! 🐟
Please take care of yourself and continue your journey. I'm looking forward to it.👍
RUclips's best couple 🍻

thank you for always watching! 😊👋🏻
I would pitch a tent at the bread festival so I can sample all the bread there! Also it's often said that queuing is a national pastime in Singapore. Wait till you see how the Japanese do it 😁
It was so fun trying all the different bakeries. And yes, they do love a good line haha 🍞
I have a growing appreciation for Ralph's fits, especially the vented pocket workwear shirts, haha! Really enjoy the vibes of your videos, Ralph and Sam!
Wow thanks! Love a weather-appropriate fit 🌧🌤
You guys bring a refreshing take on travel vlogs and i love them so much! I also adore that you share my love for vintage shopping. ❤ Good vibes all around 💕
thank you so much for saying that 😊 we appreciate it!
I currently live in SoCal, but I am from Fukuoka! I love your Kyushu videos! I would also like to see a video about onsen ♨️
Wow, we love Fukuoka! 🤍🤍🤍 Had such fun exploring it for 2 weeks. Sam has tattoos, so we still have to find an onsen that allows tattoos. Will look for one on our next trip! 😊
I always look forward to your videos! Music and visuals are always on point! Loved your hair when it was super blonde too, so cute (from your ending clips 😉).
Oh, thank you so much! 😊 Sometimes i miss it too haha 💛
Those tempura look divine. Have to try them when I'm in Fukuoka next! You two are hands down my fave vloggers 💖

Hi Sam & Ralph, planning to visit Japan next year. Have you been there around May? How’s the weather like? Been binge watching your Japan vlogs + Sam & Victor’s! ❤
May weather is still nice :) Not as cold as spring and not yet humid. Thank you so much for watching and happy planning 🤍

@@RalphSam my bf says "sila ang pinakamagaling" 💌 (he's worked on a cruise ship and has picked up a few words as well as passion for filipino food!)
@luznahir6708 hahhaha for a second we thought you guys were filipino!! tell him maraming salamat from us 😊🙏
Great video ❤
thank you for watching! 😊
What I am interested in: In all the Japan Vlogs you rock the same flowery flawless nails - did the nails hold up the whole trip?
Haha! Thank you! 🌸🌸 And yes, the cherry blossom nails did last our whole 2 week trip 😊
Hi Ralph & Sam. Thank you for sharing this cool vlog :) . May i know why did you use Hayakaken IC Card, not Nimoca or Sugoca? Is it easy to get at the Airport or Station? I heard the micro chip is getting rare nowadays and its hard to get such IC card in Japan.
Hi there! We used the Hayakaken since it's the IC card we already had from our previous trip to Japan. If you have an old one, you can reuse it instead of buying a new one 😊 We did see signs at the train station that IC were no longer available in Hakata this year and Tokyo last year. Not sure if the situation has changed though!
I’m curious, what’s your most favourite among all the places you’ve visited so far in Japan?
Miyajima Island and Hiroshima for the both of us 🌸 a special sunny day with the deer and oysters 🦪🦪
I enjoy your videos so much. Been to Japan more than 10 times and have become a little jaded, but your videos make me want to go again and explore more.
Love to hear that! Hope you get to see a different side of Japan on your next visit 😊 Thank you so much for watching 🤍
Do you know if the Bayson store sells internationally? They had so many cute things. Would love to support.
they had some really great pieces! unsure if they ship internationally, but on instagram they are @bayson_limited 😊
Is it Fu Ko Oka or Fouka. As far as pronunciation.
Locally i noticed they pronounce it closer to 'foo-KOH-ka'. The u part is said very quickly. 😊
Hello! What’s your vlogging phone? So linaw!!!
Samsung S23! 😊
@@RalphSam Thank you! Followed you on ig! Found out you love cats din pala. 😻Love your content so much!
@quinnievillalon6845 haha yay! yes, we have a puspin 😺 thank you so much! 🤍
