    just watch you video, 1design is cleaver but the pinch fing in the screen is little azardous, i found rollingstone magnetic is more secure in that regard.. nice content

      Thanks, yeah, RollingSquare is an awesome solution, that I don't think existed when I made this video. I'll definitely include them in a future video.

    that iPad mount looks sketchy to me. im worried about damaging my laptop screen and also my iPad. I like that feature, I will probably just end up getting a stand for the iPad and have it just next to the laptop instead of mounting it to the laptop. Overall that's a great mobile work set up.

      It has nice rubber pieces, so in all my usage of it, it never scratched my iPad, not did it fall... With that said, I end up usually just putting it on a stand next to the laptop anyway.

    Check out the edge pro setup that uses magnets to attach ipad, light, phones etc.

      Wow, thats super cool, definitely will get a set. Just worried that the sticker is permanently on the MacBook/iPad.

      @@hml I've been using a similar setup, but it's very bulky and makes sliding my laptop in sleeves difficult. I also bring a table top tripod for my ipad, so that's another heavy item I want to get rid of. I felt the same way about the stickies, but I have a hard shell case on my macbook instead of sticking them to the actual computer. I've used it for two years and it works great, but I saw someone using the edge pro setup in Seattle, and it looked amazing and much more streamlined. Definitely switching to it when I return home.

    Have you tried to mount the iPad to the top of your laptop screen? Does it still work?

    • @hml
      @hml  Год назад +2

      Yeah, I did, it works, but with the 12" iPad Pro I found it less comfortable.

    Great tips, thank you. A few f/u comments that may be helpful for some folks, and then a q for you.
    Re: apple charge cable vs thunderbolt cable
    With my 6th generation 12.9" iPad Pro connected to Apple's Magic Keyboard, sidecar works via either the charge cable that came with the iPad OR the thunderbolt--but only when connected to the iPad's USB C port. Neither cable works for sidecar for me when connected via the USB C port on the Magic Keyboard.
    Re: power hub
    The HyperJuice GaN power adapter you mentioned looks great. I'm using the Anker 727 Charging Station (GaNPrime 100W) and love it. Not *quite as portable as the HyperJuice BUT I like the cord length the slightly extra bulk of the Anker one gives me for connecting to power outlets that may not be as accessible in some hotels or other mobile workspaces I use.
    Q: mouse?
    I'm super curious--do you use a mouse while traveling?? I don't think you mentioned one in the video and I can't imagine getting as much done relying solely on the trackpad of my MBP. I'm actually trying to figure out what mouse to get for working on the road right now, although I may just end up finding a protective case and carrying my home MX Master 3 with me.

      Hi! Thanks for the comments. I don't have a Magic Keyboard (I really dislike Apple's Keyboards, so don't use them), so didn't try connecting it through that.
      The Anker 727 is a lot less portable. I prefer either the HyperJuice or Minix 100w, and it has the advantage of being international as well, so not only US like the Ankers.
      Regarding a mouse - yeah, absolutely, I use the Logitech MX Anywhere, absolutely love it. However, if I wanted something lighter, and cheaper today, I would've taken the Keychron K3 mouse. I use a MX Master 3 in my office, but it's too bulky to travel with.

    This is exactly what I'm looking for. I've seen many setups, but non of them actually use 2nd and rd displays on a roost stand. You're the first I see do this. Is it still stable on the roost stand if you use only 1?

    • @hml
      @hml  Год назад

      yeah, I use only 1 Roo.st stand, and it's stable. I think that a 10" iPad would be more stable, but even a 12" iPad on a 14" MacBook is pretty stable.

    Has the Mountie held up for you? I’ve heard it has a lot of issues

    • @hml
      @hml  Год назад +1

      It holds pretty well, especially if you use a 10" iPad with a 14"/16" MacBook. I use a 14" MacBook with a 12" iPad Pro, and for that I do need to balance it a bit, but it still works fine. What did you hear?

    im afraid of using those types of mounties to attach the ipad into my macbook, is it safe to do it? any feeling of breaking the screen of the macbook or the ipad?

    • @hml
      @hml  Год назад

      Honestly, I use it only when traveling, but so far it worked really well for me. No issues with the screens. I would feel more secure with a 10" iPad though, and not a 12" one.

    Does Mountie cause any scratches to the MacBook Pro?

    • @hml
      @hml  2 года назад

      No, it has rubber "feet" that actually touch the screen and the back of the Mac/iPad, which leave no scratches

    Do you feel like the Mountie makes the laptop unstable on the roost stand? Doesn’t it throw off the center of mass quite a bit?

    • @hml
      @hml  Год назад +1

      When I made the video, I had a 15" laptop and a 12" iPad, and I had to put it a little bit to the side on the Roo.st stand. With a 14" laptop, it seems to work better. I still push the laptop a little bit to the side on the stand, but it's pretty stable overall.

    • @gillybibbons1337
      @gillybibbons1337 Год назад

      Late reply, but people tend to forget that they are not using their keyboard on a stand like this, so you can set your iPad on the keyboard of the laptop, and get an even better and sturdier setup.

    • @hml
      @hml  Год назад

      That's a good idea, but doesn't the iPad slide down?

    • @gillybibbons1337
      @gillybibbons1337 Год назад

      @@hml Not when it's on a stand as the feet holding the laptop stands up (Unsure about the stand you have, but it works on the cheaper Nexstand)

    • @hml
      @hml  Год назад

      Actually, that's a great idea! Yeah, it would definitely work on the Roo.st stand, especially on the new version. Next time I travel, I will definitely do that. There is still an advantage to having the screens side by side, though...
