  • The most well-known of SeaWorld San Diego's successful rehabilitations is J.J. the gray whale. On Jan. 10, 1997, a dehydrated, hypoglycemic and comatose, three-day-old calf weighing 1,500 pounds was found off the coast of Marina del Rey, Calif. The calf was transported to SeaWorld where animal care specialists provided round-the-clock care for J.J. during her rehabilitation at the park. Fifteen months and nearly 20,000 pounds later, J.J. was restored to health and returned successfully back into the ocean.
    I did not make this video. I got it from the official SeaWorld podcast.

    "After only a few days, she scraped off her tracking devices, SO THERE WAS NO WAY TO FOLLOW HER. She was released as the gray whales were making their way north to the colder arctic waters. HOPEFULLY after learning their sounds, being taught to eat and thriving so well at the park, she connected with the other whales and has been making the annual migration with them ever since." So, it means that there was no guarantee if JJ survived the wild or died early. SeaWorld declared that it was a "success", and most of the people applaud SeaWorld for doing a good job, without even knowing how long did JJ survived the wild life. Now, I have nothing against this rehabilitation. What I've only noticed is, when Keiko was rehabilitated and released into the wild, and survived for more than a year, a lot of people was disappointed. I mean, for me personally, releasing a wild animal into their natural habitat and letting them experience their true home, is already a success. Keiko died as a free wild animal. You can compare it to a human dying inside the prison vs. dying outside the prison as a free man. Keiko's journey was an inspiration, and so as JJ's story, so both of them should be considered as a successful release in the wild.

      It’s just very sad that after all the care, time, effort & cost to nurture her back to great health they didn’t speculate the device hazards well enough & implant one in her tail or anywhere. She could presently be one of the grays that visits fishing or tour boats greeting them curiously. I Hope You’re Having Fun JJ!!! ♥️💋♥️

    most of the things that where learnt from JJ SeaWorld already knew. in 1965 they CAPTURED a gray whale calf. they named her Gigi. she only stayed in captivity for a year, and very incredibly violent for the first few months. she was eventually released.

    Funny how nobody mentions that SeaWorld initially refused to take her, and only changed their mind after it ended up on the news.

      "One" good thing? They have saved over 28.000 animals. How many have PETA saved? Or a better question would be, how many have they killed?

    • @Loweredexpectationss

      Δημήτρης κάποιος PETA is a necessary evil you idiot. Educate yourself. Instead of blaming society for uncontrolled ghetto backyard breeding (which you should), you throw shade at the guys who are left to clean up the mess, PETA. Thousands of animals every year are euthanized from many rescue organizations because there are NO HOMES FOR THEM. Personally, I would rather be dead that live the life of an unaltered stray momma cat full of mange who is on her 3rd litter of unwanted kittens for the year.
      And as for SeaWorld, yea they do ' good' out there in the ocean but until they stop torturing sea life in chlorine filled cement hell holes for money, I will harbour hate for them until the day I die. Good day, to you.

    • @dimitristsekeris1821
      @dimitristsekeris1821 8 лет назад +1

      You must be extremely stupid to think that PETA are good by killing hundreds of animals every year and harassing people for anythign they do with animals! Repeating what we have heard a million times about "torture" at SeaWorld doesn't justify their actions! PETA have done nothing good! It's far more torturing for those Orca that now they keep them from breeding to stop captivity cause "it's unethical"!
