Why don't you try putting the bit in a vise and use the grinder to sharpen it? It would be much safer controlling the grinder than that tiny bit. Better than losing a finger McNugget. You could also use an old chuck for a drill and hold the bit in that and clamp that in a vise or hold it by hand if you have no vise. You would at least have some additional distance from your fingers.

good idea, but you most know that has to be 65% covering the disk file of the grainder, many accident over the year and use glove and eyecover.

So if I was using my bench grinder?. Should I clamp the bit in the vice and hand hold the bench grinder? And it's still safer than a submarine

    Great video thanks.
Get the black once, can't remember if they're cobalt or black oxide but they stay sharper way longer than this gold once.

Christ on a crutch, more power to you for having the guts to do that. I think I'll chicken out and try a hand file.

You could hold the bit in pliers to spare danger to your fingers

Mildly sketchy, maybe put the guard on and wear some armor and a face shield while doing so.

Been doing this my whole life. I'm immune to pain. It's the testosterone level. I call it bravery. Been a carpenter my whole life. Had my fingers next to saw blades since I was a teenager. Thanks for watching the video

i see those good guys all over the internet, concerned about methods more than solving problems. i try not to .... well, you probably know. i keep my cool these days. being a maker after all is better than being a couch coach.

Funny, you make IT the most difficult way😂😂😂, grinder in your hands woud be safer, or wide stone instead od tin one, and hold tool on sth like Morse'a Holder instead try loose finger 😅😅

This video is a classic demo on why DIY people need to use discretion and be skeptical when taking advice from these videos. Just because advice is free does not guarantee it is helpful or safe.

I just fact-checked you turns out I'm right you're wrong. If you don't do anything because you're so filled with fear. You'll never get anywhere. Go out and cut your fingers and have fun. Do you wear one of those retard helmets with elbow pads and knee pads?

And this is why we have safety people to show how NOT TO SHARPEN STEP DRILLS. $10 a pop vs. hundreds of thousands in injuries or possible death from this type of info. Smh....😒🤨🤔

No, the dumbest thing that I have seen is guy putting his fingers so close to a cut off wheel. Sooner or later, you are going to be one of those guy's walking around with fingers missing and embarrassed to tell the story. You are old enough to know better and showing this foolish way to sharpen a $2 drill bit may influence other people that don't know any better. My earlier statement makes perfect sense, would I put my dick near that cut off wheel, Nooooooo. Then don't put your fingers there. @@HandymanMark

Guess it works but makes me cringe watching! Really needs some better way to hold the bit!
