I saw another reactor claiming Ren stole that from Big L and was trying to sneak it in or didn't realize that the line existed. I was like no way, Ren doesn't do anything by accident, why would he steal a line from a track that's from the very era of hip-hop that he's paying homage to. It's definitely a tip of the hat to Big L.
& you are right it was NY State of mind. BTW did you notice that Ren's retake was exactly half as long as Nas's (Halftime) 😂✌

The bar that blurred out is "A feminist with no one to complain to." It is actually one of the most liked comments on the original video. The reason why feminist is bleeped out, is all the backlash in the comments. I think it was Nas that asked a question on hip hop in general. The answers were hockey without ice, China without rice and a few others. Ren took those mosted like comments and used the scheme as a tribute to Big L.
The stoplight crossing stopped at 0 when Ren stopped walking. Also it was PI day when he Released this song and this song is half the time of the og version NAS halftime. Literally half 😆

The day this dropped was pie day in America 3.14(PI) on purpose and when he paused and the beat stopped , the traffic lights went to on zero on the drop! That was no coincidence the timing on crossing the rd also. Meticulous planning. 😊
I'll be 60 in August. I grew up listening to the likes of Kool Moe Dee, Kurtis Blow, Doug E. Fresh, Paris, 2Pac, B.I.G., NWA, Ice Cube, Public Enemy... REN is far more than a "throwback" to those days... he's seeing those days in a 21st century mirror. Ren has been called a "UK Rapper" or "British hip-hop'." Perhaps. Bottom line... Ren has no rules... no boundaries... no genre... Ren is REN. And he's fucking BRILLIANT.
The atom bomb bar was pretty sweet
A few people used to give him sh!t cus he's white... and BOOM, he throws out more knowledge in one track than those haters ever forgot in their life... so much deep respect and humility for the art. Same as in 'The Hunger' ... he doesn't just flex, he nods at his musical roots... and those roots run crazy deep : )
I've said it multiple times, you should really plug your music in at the start of your reactions, just a few bars of different songs that you created or helped create. Was shocked at how good some of them where and that I'd never heard of you. That's my bad but I bet there are many more like me that would love your music given the chance. ....... It's actually a physics scheme trying to describe the type of processes involved in a nuclear explosion, which he links with "super size me", as the atom is invisible but the explosion is gigantic, jumping then into the McDonald's scheme.
And halftime was produced by large professor whose group, main source, released breaking the atom

The whole ‘ice, rice, Christ etc’ flow were direct quotes taken from the comment section of Nas’ Halftime original video that were made by his fans. And the feminist quote was in there. The fans themselves were using Big L to pay tribute to Nas. Hope that all makes sense?! If I’ve butchered this explanation then check out the video by Rikashae.
Also, I think that Ren blurred it out to be controversial….and it’s kinda worked because people, probably feminists, are complaining that he used the line. How ironic lol.

Loved this reaction! You’re absolutely right. Pay respect. And it’s other genres too. New R&B who know nothing about Motown or rockers that don’t appreciate blues. What? That’s your foundation. I grew up late 80s early 90s and listen to most genres but I did give up on rap. I’m glad some newer artists do show respect and went back to great storytelling because I’ve been listening again.
