I used to live in Forest Hills until I was 4. Always loved riding the subways. Back then it was R32's on the E and R46's on everything else (G, R, and V). With regards to CBTC, I calculated it would take about 90 highway lanes (45 in each direction) to equal the capacity this line will have once CBTC is activated which is 32 trains per hour in each direction on the local, and 32 trains per hour in each direction on the express.
Before there 5 lines E F G R V now there 4 lines E F M R G trains are not longer to Forest hill-71 Avenue M trains are replaced V train and Brown M change to orange At late night there no M and R because they both become Shuttle and E trains local
Despite all its problems, I am still fascinated by the subway; any subway anywhere in the world, but particularly New York. 24/7 service and express trains, we got it better than most. I enjoyed the video. Catch any of the conductors pointing??
Just a Thought With aging infrastructure, we do have some of the best systems in the world. We have amazing technology and even antique R32 cars! Nah, I didn't catch any conductors pointing lol. I was too busy trying to get a stream of trains
Fuseguy, Yep, infrastructure that should have been upgraded decades ago. It's just a microcosm of the problem we have overall. I wish sometimes though they'd run a graffiti train. Now I think it would look cool. That would be the official Train of Colors. Next time look out for the conductors. They have to point at board. There's a youtube video on it. I think it is so they are alert, like how the Japanese conductors do on the Bullet Train.
Just a Thought Look at the bright side. The 7 line is getting CBTC implemented, the L line has new technology to make trains run closer together and the QBL is getting CBTC controls next year I believe. Yes, I'm familiar with the conductors pointing lol. I thought you meant pointing at me when I was filming 😂
True, but it took nearly a decade for them to implement in on the L. At this rate it will be done in another century, but by then, there will be a whole new other technology. There is so much redundancy on the system, they should have started it on the 8th Ave. line. That way they could have shut down the Express tracks, and worked on it outside of rush hour, then work the local the same way. May be it is way more complicated than what I am imagining. I know it is. The Times are writing excellent articles on all of this. If you stand in front of that board, they will be pointing at you. lol.
Just a Thought Keep in mind that the #1 cause of the subway frenzy is overcrowding. No matter how many NTT trains there are, how many new signals get upgraded, etc, there will always be jammed doors and people trying to squeeze in. Yes, I'm fully aware of the NY Times articles.
