Wow ... some harsh criticism. I've been producing music for 30 years and I'd LOVE to have him on the other side of the glass in ANY session I work on. And this is not cherry picking slices of the best studio takes. Unlike Zep's version, there's no effects or doubling of the voice which makes vocal tracks much bigger. This is dry and live. Not sure Robert Plant could have ever pulled this off as spot on as Pat Monahan did here. Bravo, I loved it. BIG TIME talent.
+Bill Kole have not found a more spectacular cover of this song than Monahan's. The dude is dizzy when he finishes ... what more do people want?

+zeppelinjprp I have seen Led Zeppelin live. And yes Plant could and did, often! But you have to admit that's a damn hard song to sing. I think this guy did a pretty good job. I'm not going to compare him to Plant but I'm not going to bash him either.

This just confirms how rare and talented Led Zeppelin was. Each oozing talent all coming together for a short time and went their own ways after Bonham died. They knew they were lightning in a bottle.
I just saw Train perform this cover live. It was so good it gave me goosebumps.

This happened almost 16 to 19 years ago. Time flies. I remember listening to this going to work in Costa Meza CA at 7:30am. It blew my mind on how this guy could sing live. Never expected this from this band.

I've seen people cover Zeppelin (very badly i might add) who look like they are simultaneously having a stroke and a seizure trying to hit those notes. If you turn the volume down you could very well argue that Pat is singing "The Hokey Pokey" at a 7 year old's birthday party. He killed that cover and looked absolutely effortless doing it. Was never a huge train fan...but after this appearance on O&A, I think I'm gonna give em more of a listen. Great appearance boys!

I have an unquenchable thirst for Zepplin (and I've been with them since the early 70's). This rendition hits the spot for me. Yea, ok, he's no Robert Plant but damn, this guy can sing in his own right. And it makes me want to pick up my axe and jam along with them.
concidering how many people/bands tried covering zeppelin songs and how many of them butchered so many songs, this should be satisfying as hell to a lot of fans. one of the best covers I've heared so far, and not just of LZ songs. Cheers
