Wow, I never heard the the original concept before. I agree it's a heck of a concept, but they would have had trouble portraying a half live/animated character in 1992. Today they could do CGI with a deliberate uncanny valley appearance, which would be perfect for a horror movie. Please redo, Paramount.
Naw portraying live/animated characters movie could've been done in 1992. They did it perfectly in who framed roger rabbit and that was created in 1988 but it still would've took a lot of work.
This was an innovative idea, and unfortunately it backfired on Bakshi. I am a fan of Bakshi's work, and especially of his use of rotoscope techniques (Lord of the Rings), but Cool World was to me more of an idea that would have worked as an indie film, but the studio hamstrung it to the point that Bakshi's original vision was severely watered down and altered. Bakshi always did his best work when allowed to make what he wanted.
6:16- I think out of all of the characters, Holli Would is the most explored- being a bratty sociopath but also a suave manipulator whose motives is about feeling real and not appreciating her well-off life while being rebellious.
I found it a really interesting failure. It looks amazing- the film stock and Technicolor combination is one of the best I've seen. Then more obviously is the animation and soundtrack- you really feel that in some regards the early '90s were a better time. Everything else is a mess, but it's genuinely fascinating.
In his article _My Meeting with Bakshi, or, Goodbye Cool World,_ Steve Moore, a man who worked on Rover Dangerfield, confirmed that Ralph Bakshi tried to convince him to work on CW. At that point, "William" (Willem) Dafoe had been tapped to play Jack Deebs. After seeing how CW ended up, as well as the trailer for The Last Days of Coney Island, Steve has absolutely no regrets about denying Bakshi's request. He described Bakshi's pitched as "like listening to Garrison Keillor read a soft porn script," so CW was presumably still in the R-rated stage at that point. He went onto say, "I have a lot of industry friends who went on to work on Cool World, and their horror stories confirmed my instincts to be correct. People were fired and rehired on a daily basis. Ralph seemed to relish working in chaos." If the Blu-ray reviews are anything to go by, Basinger and Mancuso Jr. were down with Bakshi's vision, but the studio (unsurprisingly) wanted something Roger Rabbit-esque, which meant watering it down for a mainstream audience. Then a regime change caused it to get swept under the rug.
The director should of just walked away and took the law and turn that around because he didn't agree to the changes behind his back. This movie was really interesting and fun but that stopped right after the sex scene. The movie took a whole different turn for an awful movie
I love the movie even if it's bad it was different I bet if they remake or or make port 2 but with 3D animation with 2D cuz they mait with each other in the movie like it could make its own story just takes teams of people with art and stories
Watched Cool World in the 90's and loved it despite all the new critics ruining the word of such. I looked at the movie maturely, but just as something more to enjoy back when I seen it. You review this movie so well & do much better then any reviewer ever has done. Appreciate it. Deadpool approves. #Retro Nerd Girl Rocks .
Some character concepts were a similarity from such movie, but, the adult theme approach was a more darker tone then Who Framed Roger Rabbit. All the doodles were not from any known animation made at the time, all put in as new cartoon characters technically. So, Trust me it is worth a watch, just don't think about all the negative reviews people say on youtube. After all, you never know what something is like until ya try it. #Deadpool3 in theaters soon enough. Lol.
And now, without further adieu... The BEST song on the soundtrack. "Sex on Wheelz" by My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. ruclips.net/video/sFNgCrGWQAM/видео.html

I haven't seen since it was in theaters... I enjoyed it at the time. As a fan of some of Bakshi's other films, it would be fun to re-watch it..
Dark Wolf I haven’t seen Cool World since it was in the theater as well and they played a reissue of it in 2012 I was 5
And in the list of movies that NEED/DESERVE a remake, this one is at the top.

Most definitely! It's on my list. :)
THANK YOU, RNG
So that's how you say Basinger haha
So glad you noticed. I had no idea until I got the inkling to double check. I had been saying it wrong for years. :)
Me to haha
Cool World needs a reboot right away using Ralph Bakshi original story.
Terrible movie lol. Trying to dominate on the success of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Havne't seen it in a while though. Keep up the good work.
They need reboot Cool World.
Never watched this cause it just looked like a dull rip-off of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
