I watched Manchester by the Sea three times because of his talent and his interaction with co-star Casey Affleck. Their performance together was electric and touching at times. I would like to see him play in other independent films just for his performance and I hope this year will brings him more project in this matter.

He has good taste in scripts. He hasn't put a foot wrong since his big breakthrough in Manchester. Even when I haven't thought something was a masterpiece, it was worth seeing. (BTW, the bullying older brother in mid90s is one of his best performances.)

You honestly thought that the big brother bully was his best performance yet?? Sure, it was a good performance, but it didn't seem that challenging for him. I'm not sure what I think his best performance has been to date; I mean, it's hard to tell because his characters all seem similar in the sense that they are all dealing with this intense inner struggle (as imdb said). I might have to go with Manchester by the Sea, or maybe the latest movie I've seen him in, which was Ben is Back. He displayed an incredible range of emotions in that movie. I get it though, to each his own.

Jaykob: I will admit, I haven't gotten to Ben Is Back yet. Manchester is his best *film* for sure, and he was excellent in it. What impressed me so much about about him in mid90s is that he played this brutal character the audience might feel compelled to hate, but he made me wonder what was going on underneath. There was a lot of pain in that portrayal. A supporting performance should make us feel the character has a completely different interesting film in him (or her), and Hedges did that. It was inspired "counterintuitive" casting from Jonah Hill to put a sensitive actor in that closed-off role.

Good overview of a more than promising actor. I like the idea of a character "struggling with sobriety."

He's overrated. I liked Boy Erased though.
