  • In this video I repot some of my cymbidiums. They were rotting due to our unusually wet summer. I also repot a cymbidium propagated from a back bulb.

Great video on Cymbidium care😊🙏💖I did watch your earlier video on Cymbidiums too. I need to try growing Cymbidiums again. The Summers are over 35℃ daily. So, when I buy a new one I plan to grow it in another area of the yard where it's shady, cooler and protected from excess rain. I'm very determined to succeed this time🙏Cymbidiums are beautiful orchids😊💖

Glad you liked the video and I wish you good success with your cyms. They are super plants when you get the recipe right. Take care.

Great repotting. I just had a similar experience. I had to repot a cymbidium which was mistakenly overwatered and was surprised to see that some of the roots were still good.

I really enjoy your orchid videos. Cymbidiums is one orchid type I don't have.

I am glad you did not lose your Cymbidium. They resisted quite well to excess of water. I have seen single back psb grow new shoots but it will take 4 to 5 years to be able to bloom 😊

Thankyou for sharing Rachel. Do not complain too much on rainy wheather, in Tuscany we had a very anomalous summer, too hot or too cold days for the season, very little rain, so I had to water often my cymbs or they would literally dessiccate. Result? Some of them got root rot.
It's a true game of patience and perseverance, and sometime a bit exasperating one! 🙁

Oh, now i eish i lived next door, so i could go through your trash and grab the discarded orchids haha.
This is a great video for educational purposes, luckily i don't need it right now.
Managed to kill all of my orchids and most of my plants due to my depression acting up and not finding the energy to care for them, but I'm getting back into the game.

Sorry to hear about your depression. It's hard to prioritise plants when you feel that bad. Wishing you all the best.

      @@GardeningatDouentza Thank you, Rachel!
Yes, it is hard in those moments, but now the plants are making me focus on something, so they're helping.

I have lots of Phalenopsis orchids but haven’t had too much luck with cymbidiums! Thanks for your video on repotting cymbidiums which I did on my pink and yellow! I left the big pink one whole in a big pot with just 2” around sides, as hopefully won’t have to wait two years for flowering! There is quite a bit of space under in the dirt as not lots of roots? Will they grow down very quickly! I know that now they need very little watering and all!( Greece I live and it’s very hot in the summer here) Both had lots of rotten bulbs especially the yellow one! I have 4 backbulbs and do you recommend small individual pots ; I have seen them planted in low rounder pots several bulbs together! Which is better ?

I would recommend deep pots for cymbidiums. I'm sure yours will establish roots quickly. I think, overall, I prefer individual pots but I have also had success potting a lot of divisions in the one pot. Hope this helps.

I have been thinking about potting cymbidiums in shallow bowl type of pots. It would make them dry out faster and also it would be more stable when hanging flowers form. What do you think about that?

I'd be interested in how that turns out. I feel the plant might struggle. Let me know how it goes.

You used this substrate for phalaenopsis orchids ? What do you think, is it good?

This potting mix is not fit for epiphytic orchids like phals.

I don't see why you can't keep them in the glasshouse all year. The winter blooming species will typically grow just fine in Florida even with our summer heat, the problem is that we don't get cool enough early enough or long enough in order to bloom them.
