- Criminal Minds Completely BOTCHES Spencer Reid’s Return..
Welcome back to Show Pop. Dr. Spencer Reid's return may have been already set up by Criminal Minds: Evolution but in the worst possible way. The BAU re-assembles to take on a new case hunting down Elias Voit and his network of serial criminals. Unfortunately for the unit, they have to deal with it without the team's boy genius after Matthew Gray Gubler is unable to join due to a scheduling conflict. The good news is, the Paramount+ show is keeping the door open for Reid potentially reclaiming his old BAU spot. It may have just laid the groundwork for it, although the surrounding circumstances may not be ideal.
Not wasting any time, Criminal Minds: Evolution revealed what happened to Reid already. Deputy Director Bailey confirmed that he's working on a different case but didn't get into specifics about what it is about or when it will be finished. It's an intelligent way to keep their options open about how to re-incorporate Reid into the narrative in case Gubler's schedule finally allows him to join Criminal Minds: Evolution. In fact, they may have already set their plan in motion with regard to how it's going to pan out.

I like the relationship jj has with her husband. Don't kill him off just put Reid on and let him have his own healthy relationship.

I miss Hotchner as well. I stopped watching this show after he left, so I don't care about Reid's return. I no longer watch Criminal Minds. I do watch the reruns with Hotchner!!!

I want jj and Reid to remain friends. This is why I didn’t watch the last season of criminal minds. I hate the romance. Jj basically cheated emotionally. NO romance is what I want. I love their friendship.
How tho? They didn’t flirt or anything, she said she loved him under duress while hostage. Friends can absolutely love each other. I don’t see it as any form of cheating.
Plus she loves Will and is not leaving him for Reid

@@KariN-or3sc It was implied that there was romantic feelings between them. Which was lame. I don't think it was "cheating" but I definitely hated how they shoehorned it in. I think they were running out of ideas and decided to write in a half-assed romance. But that's just my opinion.

They better not kill off Will! Reed & JJ are besties, they should stay as besties. I think Reed deserves his own, without killing her off this time! I'm SO SICK of them killing off and torturing Reed's character. You don't need to constantly mess with the characters to keep it interesting. Just keep with interesting plots with bad guys and we'll be happy. Matthew doing cameos would be great! Then he could continue his other work!
From the beginning they were developing a romantic relationship between Spencer and JJ. They were going for a slow build up to them being together. A.J. got pregnant, so they needed a reasonable way to write her pregnancy into the story. They were never just best friends. If anyone paid attention in the beginning Spencer asked her out and she didn’t realize it was supposed to be a date so she invited Penelope. There were always hints at their feelings for each other.
I felt as the show went on that J.J. and Reid were more like brother and sister even though in the beginning Reid had a crush on her but to me it evolved to a more sibling type of relationship in my opinion. I can't see them as a romantic couple,. Besides I Love the Will and J.J. arc. I also hated how they tortured Reid throughout the shows run. They should bring back that girl, Maxine, for Reid that was in the 15th season. She was cute as a button and she had a great personality and I thought it really was a good match. Even though Maeve would've have been perfect for Reid, but of course they had to kill her off which was really too bad.

Keep JJ and Reid as friends. They always acted like siblings anyway as the seasons went on. Gubler could always have a cameo in Season 1, so it's a much smoother transition if he can come in for Season 2

@@ZacharyShankWell technically, evolution is a separate series, so yes it is season 2. The fact it's a continuation of the original and that fandom commonly talks about it as if they're all seasons of the original series doesn't change the fact it's a new title. So yes, Season 2 is correct.

It’s not up to them…they would welcome Matthew back w open arms. But he has prior commitments and has been pretty vocal about wanting to do other things after 15 seasons of CM. I do hope he returns for at least a cameo or two in the 2nd/17th season! 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

Maybe I didn’t notice it but I never thought Reid and JJ had chemistry. The show made hints that Reid liked JJ during season one but after that it was a sibling relationship. She always treated him like a little brother.

@@_right_lifts I had to google it because I wasn’t sure but he kicked someone on set so they fired him. He says it wasn’t that bad. I think it was that mixed with anger issues. It may have been at the time of his divorce. Lol

You could easily get him back in by him becoming a crime novel writer and being asked to help the team with an impossible to solve crime going on and he realizes how much he missed being part of the team and rejoins the team.
Bring Reid back but don't kill off JJ husband. Reid can help JJ through her husband illness

When I heard that MGG was not regularly in the show but may pop up later made me go to the dark side. I thought that if they brought him back next season he might have taken an "evil" genius turn...what a plot twist that could be. Making Spencer go crazy and have the team looking for him!

Actually I think they've started setting up his comeback pretty well. Sad how it'll get there tho. It'll mean we'll lose one of my favorite characters
They don’t need to kill Will to set up a Reid return, since JJ and Reid were never together. They said he’s on assignment, so the only set up they need is for him to come back from assignment. Also, Will isn’t dying…they already confirmed it’s not cancer, and it’s highly unlikely he would die because of a thyroid issue. So, no losing of Will as of the current storylines (and hopefully never!), and Reid can come back whenever and IF the actor is available/wants to come back. 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

I don’t want Will to die, JJ and Will are goals. I wouldn’t want to see JJ w Reid….and there never was a romance in the original series. There were hints here and there that they had secret feelings, but that’s it. I want Reid back, but I do NOT want Will to die. And they already said it was a thyroid issue, not cancer, so this video is crap anyway.

Well thank goodness the show has been renewed for a 2nd (or 17th) season. Now hopefully Reid will come back. (I still don’t trust Deputy Director Bailey, and I think he’s hiding something.)

I agree Hotch and Derek need to come back to find Reid and finally someone else misses ell she was a good profilers I never understood why she was recast with Emily she’s older and came off as a bit cold secretive not my a favorite but I do love the whole team chemistry everyone else flow was allways so on point it made me look over Emily especially Penelope she’s so freaking bubbly and quirky it really is a joy she’s a perfect character CM

NGL I really didn't like how they just threw Will & JJ together out of no where after some off screen romance, I wouldn't mind JJ & Reid having a slow burn romance AFTER Will passes tragically. As long as it's done naturally, that would help

I’m just annoyed they didn’t just wait for Matthew to be free to start filming, Reid is the only character before this season started to have not missed a single episode of criminal minds, literally was in every single episode and they screwed it with the decision not to wait.

But unfortunately, his show SWAT is preventing that from happening due to schedule conflicts. Have you watched SWAT? It’s been in my watchlist since season 1 but I hvnt started it yet. If you’ve seen it, do you recommend?
Hotch was my favorite character. It was so sad when he was fired from the show. I really wish they would bring him back.

If there were ever going to be a romance between Jj and Reid. It should have been waaaay back in the days when reid had a crush on jj. I think that could have been an interesting take. It wouldn't have been one that lasted tho. It would have been one that helped Reid grow, and learn valuable lessons regarding romance. And then they would have turned it into the friendship they have. Besties.. and JJ would end with her current husband, where Reid would end in a serious relationship of his own.
They managed to get Reid to grow without that romance of Jj. But they should never have gotten Jj to "admit" her feelings. It felt to forced after such a long time. They have a brother/sister relationship at that point. It's just WRONG.. there was nothing to truly hint at it. It did come out of no where..
Compared to when Reid had his crush, we could sort of feel, and see it.. and to be honest, it sort of ruined how I view Jj now. Before I saw her as a badass, now I just see those problem she has in her relationship with her husband to be her own damn fault. I'm pissed off to be honest..
I do hope Reid comes back, I hope he comes back having a beautiful loving fiancé that he is just head over heels in love with..

I totally agree! When J.J. admitted her love for Reid, to me, just felt awkward. I wish they would bring back Maxine, the girl that kinda hooked up with Reid toward the end of the 15th Season. She was cute as a button and very smart. I loved her personality and how compatible they seemed together and Reid was just so Happy, Finally..
It was absolutely stupid to make JJ and Reid be in love with each other. It was so unbelievable. We've seen their dynamic for years and there were not any evidence JJ and Dr. Genius had something more then sweet friendship.

I didnt ship jj and reid back then bcoz reid was such a nerd looking guy, but on the last 2 seasons he evolved into a hot guy with his new look. Yes, it would turn ugly for the show if they kill off Will just to make jj and reid together but i still really want to see more jj and reid romantic scenes.

Me too! I think we’re the only ones tho 😢 but i really want them to explore jj and reid’s romance. It’s such a long time coming. From season 1 until now… there were definitely hints for it too. Subtle, but it was there all throughout the show. Since CM is more on serious undertones, it doesn’t really emphasize dating between characters, but look at how in implied the Rossi and Strauss relationship without being too dramatic.. i think that’s what they also did with jj and reid

The relationship between JJ and Reid could've been romance if the people behind tbe scenes, slowly but steadily, built their relationship. I mean, the viewers say they only saw their relationship as being siblings but I saw something else. Very subtle but there were times, not always nor often, that I forgot JJ had a husband and kid. Felt forced that JJ suddenly left that route of not following her heart first before marrying a man she most likely wasn't content with. On the other hand, I feel like people are tired of seeing a guy and girl not being able to be written as only being friends but come on! It was clear as day on what the people behind this show originally wanted but really couldn't put it in the plot for some reason. Such a shame they went on the cheating route to have FINALLY given us some clear answers from watching the show throughout the seasons...

It’s still worth a watch…CM isn’t keeping him from appearing, Matthew has committed to other things. Paget has spoken about his absence, and said she doesn’t blame him for wanting to do other things, so I think it’s 100% Gubler not wanting to come back. I do hope he changes his mind for next season, or at least makes a cameo. He was my fav character throughout the series. Season 16 is still worth watching tho! IMO anyway. 😁

JJ and Spencer need to stay friends, if they become involved romantically, and if they end their romantic relationship, more than likely their friendship will end also. Most relationships that start as friends, can not return to being just friends. I absolutely would rather see the friendship stay put, and JJ and Spencer happy. JMO
When Maeve was killed, that was the worst episode. It affected me. I know Reid cares about JJ, but I think they should just stay friends.

i'm a rare one i guess i'd love to See JJ with Reid, however if they did end up killing Will or they do end up divorced to only bring him to get together with her let's say next season would be a mistake plus than there's the fact that if they do kill him off this season or next and he comes back it's still be a mistake to rush it, i love the idea of them together however it was handled really badly in season 15. if they did decide to do it at some point i'd be fine with it and if she stays with Will i'm fine with that as well. it all depends on how it's written if they decide to go down that route. and if they don't they don't, although i am curious if he's still with Max though

Dang I just cancelled my paramount + subscription... Reid was my favorite character on the show. Such a beautiful human being to look at! I need to make sure I watched all the episodes available.

The executives over at Criminal Minds are notorious for changing their minds about the cast and making bad decisions. They change their minds as much as the stylist changes Reid's hair; we're going to have to wait until the roulette wheel stops spinning before we get a definite answer on this one.

Maybe Reid could have figured out this "gold star" thing that was in season 16 that high ranking officials seemed to be involved with and Voit knew about. Maybe he is being silenced about finding out some corruption going on within high ups.
I feel like the new guy is trying so hard to be tough like hotch. But comes out as bad acting also i noticed Dave is not putting much effort in he's character he's lacking i feel like everyone is just force to do this 16th season not liking it as much specially without Reid i wonder wat their rating is

You clearly didn't watch the show, Reid had a crush on Jj since season 1. When JJ got married he trying to support her, even though he was in love with her. Jj love of him might have fallen in love with him but again kept it hidden.
