  • The headlight level control switch had gone so that the angle of the headlights was all wrong and it was an MOT failure issue.
It's dead easy to fix! Watch the video to find out.
This was on a 2001 year MG ZS, but it applies to a lot of other different models and makes since these sorts of parts are used all over the industry. Why bother buying a new part when the old one can be fixed in less time, plus zero money.

Thank you very much man, it makes sense. My Auris /corolla 2016 has this issue, i know it is not the motor because it moves randomly and both sides at the same level. I will try to spray the knob and gap with 99% ethanol to clean some dirt or residue and hopefully fix the contact without taking it out. So I spray it several times with 99% ethanol (avoid corrosion) and move the dials up and down several times, test it with the headlight on, and now everything works well again. Over time, the contact get some film from cleaner or UV protectant for the interior spray. Mine was caused by either UV protectant or AC cleaner liquids that drip on it from the vents.

Good luck. I suspect it will need dismantling though.

@@comeinhandynow I tried it last night. It works well. I think it takes me about 15 minutes to spray in all the possible gaps I can find with a regular sprayer for plants. Isopropanol is very strong and leaves no residue and also does not cause corrosion. I rolled the dials fast and slow from 0 to 5 and test in all settings. Initially only few setting works but finally all number works. This trick works in many things including keyboards, door windows switches, radio volume buttons, etc.
