- Hank Marvin, Bruce Welch, Brian Bennett & Sir Cliff Richard perform 'Apache' & tell the story of The Shadows' first UK #1.
From the BBC4 documentary 'The Shadows at 60'. - Видеоклипы
Folks of my generation (I'm 76) hear 'Apache' and are instantly transported to the days of their youth.
"thank you very much," indeed.
Concordo, quanti bei ricordi.
Hank Marvin deserves so much more recognition than he ever got. The man was the first English guitar hero
Bert weedon
He's well-known enough for their achievements I feel. And you will need to remember there's never first. One might say that Lonnie Donegan was the first guitar hero given that he single-handedly set off a Countrywide skiffle craze.
David Gilmour of Pink Floyd was inspired by Hank's style and the Fender.

Agreed
First day performance ❤😢
@@tintuntintunnyine8341 I'm 75 and still have this on 45rpm, somewhere among the stuff that will go to grandies, one day 😀
I listened to The Shadows when I was a kid. Loved them then. Love them now. Love them forever
That rhythm guitar play is outstanding !!!!
The lead guitar's not so bad either.
Brought tears to my eyes to see how great they are after 60 years.
I love the shadows music if I could play like Hank I would feel great thank you Hank for being the best I love listening to you
I enjoy your music hank
Bruce Welch told me that this documentary was filmed in November 2019 and that The Shadows didn't get to see any of the footage before it was first broadcast in Spring 2020.
From childhood until now...running through my blood. The Shadows.
So many decades ago. Thank you.
Hank looks amazing at 79. He was 80 on 28th October 2021. 💞💖
In 1975, I was captivated by the enchanting sound of a guitar playing "Apache." Fast forward to 2024, and I found myself once again immersed in that same sensation. The music resonated with my soul, effortlessly transporting me back in time and compelling my spirit to sway with the enchanting melodies and rhythms. The rendition of "Apache" by The Shadows remains unparalleled.
i'm 35, recently taken up being a guitarist because of mr marvin! this is literal perfection in my mind!
Brings back memories
Not many bands can reunite 50 years later to play again with same line up. Respect. Legends.
@Bad Lieutenant
Yes and what a lineup! 👍
not really a reunion, as hank wasn't in the studio....?
@@pharoahegypt Hank has lived in Australia for decades now so it's a long way to travel for any knd of reunion.
I get your point but Jet Harris & Tony Meehan were on the original sadly gone now : 🤔🙀🎸
Legends of music
I saw them live in Cambridge, a good part of my life, first heard in my youth, never forgotten, how one tune creates such lasting memories.
The Legends from my early teens.
Fantastic
I had to watch this 5 times. Brings back my young days
Proper, genuine talent and such nice guys. We’ll never see their like again. God bless ‘em ! 👏👏
I'm gonna say this once . Fantastic brilliant beautiful amazing guitar hero unbelievable brilliant 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
Us of this generation love thees flash backs God bless you
I met Bruce a few years ago very briefly. Absolute gent. Just a really lovely down to earth guy. Oh, and a great musician.
The quality of Hanks unique style is completely brilliant gave them a unique sound
Played this song at my wonderful dad's funeral afew weeks ago, it was his most favourite piece of music ever and it so was lovely to hear it as he left this earth for his paradise ❤️ ♥️ 💙 xxxxxxxxxxxxx
I love, love this song.
Brilliant musicians no other words needed only I love the shads God bless Hank Bruce And Brian
Inspiring. Great to see these men so enjoying life. This music makes me think of my Dad, (Class of '58) R.I.P old man, the greatest ever.
Wonderful music . Reminds me so much of the sixties . A golden time .
Their music and sound have inspired millions of aspiring guitar players.
When I got my Mexican made Fender strat back in 2011, I quickly had the pick-ups swapped out for 50's ones, as I'm a huge shadows fan and wanted my strat to sound like Hank's, the result of the pick-up swap was my strat sounds just like Hank's, especially with that authentic Shadows echo added 😁
The shadows are absolute legends, their music will remain timeless forever and be loved and enjoyed for many generations 👍🏻
Awesome. I remember them very well. One of my favourite groups.
Our band, The Gathering, played Apache at our country high school speech night around 1967. Loved The Shadows and saw them live in Shepparton Victoria around the same time. Still play the tune!
Hello 👋 Glenn. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Scott Clifford am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Amazing! Long live the Shadows. Happy 2022. From South Africa.

The music of my youth. More than 50 years later, it has lost none of its charm. The magic remains intact.
I have ALWAYS been a huge fan of The Shadows and saw them when they played in Melbourne - their skills have never waned ...
Brings back great memories🥂
After ages .. you guys are really great , music that will never forgotten to whom ever have heard this ... wonderful old guys
what an iconic piece! fantastic time for music in the UK
Hello 👋 Priscilla. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Scott Clifford am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
I doubt there are many British guitarists around today who would not confess that they were - at the very first instance - influenced at the very least, to buy a guitar, learn it and play it by these four - fabulous - men.
The Shadows also cemented the Fender Stratocaster into the British rock realm. No other guitar would epitomise the sound of the sixties instrumental playing as much as the good old Strat, with its cutting high-end and bell-like tones.
The Shadows instrumentals were a musical underscore of the whole period.
And Apache was usually the first thing any aspiring lead guitarist would undergo finger-cramps to accomplish.
BRAVO GENTLEMEN ! And yes, they are all real *gentlemen.*
Still so great after all this time love apache
As a 13yr old my bedroom was covered with Shadows photos. I bought all their records singles EPs and their very first LP which has a track Nivram - Marvin backwards. Great to see& hear them sounding just as superb 60 yrs. on🏴
Oh i danced my head of...stil great music❤🤗
Hello 👋 Jane. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Scott Clifford am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Old music never dies, like fine wine only better in time.
Beautiful song, sweet memories, great performance
Happy New year and how are you doing today?
Truly, this is a document of musical historical significance, recalling the creation of a memorable instrumental
hit. And its participants have matured in like memorable fashion! Hank Marvin especially seems to have
been caught in some ever-youthful time-travelling music warp!
Born in 56, remember thinking in that pre Beatles era in the very early 60s that the Shadows were it! Wonderful Land is my favourite. My inspiration to start playing - along with Joe Brown & The Bruvvers!
Love love love the Shadows!!!
Hello 👋 Karen. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Scott Clifford am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Classic music and these guys still are great.
Was a great tune.i learnt it around 1960 picked up the rhythm part first then learnt the lead. Took me so long to learn it back then age 18 i never forgot how to play it.
The sound of the 60's is unmistakable, a wonderful time with the best music.
My late Dad, a guitarist himself, was a huge Shadow's fan and had Apache running through his blood until he passed away in August 2018. He played it so well. When I hear Apache I think of Dad.
Music, friendly, Freedom!
When I hear Wonderful Land ,I think of a favourite cousin that passed .I turn it off ,usually ,when it's played . Keep safe from this horrid virus ,Shane .
Awe. Sweet, precious memories. My late husband, also a professional guitarist, was a huge Shadows fan and loved playing their music with his original, local band when he was at home.
Bless you!
Im sure, he's watching you from the heavens.
Stay safe, stay strong, stay healthy!

From England.
If USA had got there great tunes they would have been amazed.the very best group of guitarists .!ever and ever.!!!!fact .
I still swoon for Hank Marvin... even tho' he was my mother's generation... ..
Fantastic! So nice to see Hank and the boys. As a little boy this made me put down my trumpet and pick up a guitar
That was really cool & brought a smile to my face. Some of us have been blessed to have lives that allowed us to do things that we absolutely loved. These Shadows certainly were in that category.
Listening to this, I can smell the new vinyl as it was taken out of the paper sleeve for the first time, and the smell of the warm Dansette record player. Can hear the mechanism of the auto functions of the machine as the record drops onto the turntable and the playing arm moves above the blank groove and then drops onto the disc with a crackle and hiss before the music starts. The coal fire warming my feet, mum preparing tea, and Dad just in from work. Memories all from those first few bars. Great days.
What you mean the one with the Garrard turntable,They were on most record players
@@alfching2499 can't remember. I was only 6 or 7 at the time.
There used to be a woman who worked in our local bakery who looked just like Hank Marvin - same glasses and everything. Cracked me up every time I went in there - especially if I was really hungry…
Well, Hank Marvin is rhyming slang for starvin', so that makes sense
This tune will always remain fresh and timeless.
I bought their Greatest Hits album in ..1953 ish....the first album
that I had bought...still got it..60 years later..they were my favourite band
'and was..'Cliff Richards and the Shows''
Hank would have been 12 in '53.
Hank Marvin , Bruce . . . , Wow ! the late 60s heroes are still popular. For many decades they have ruled the music world . I'm a big fan of SHADOWS . 🎸🎤📻🎹
Bruce Welch just always seems to be a completely genuine guy. The young stars of today could learn a few things from him…first and foremost the music is your job…your trade… and ignore all the so called celebrity nonsense.
One thing I can never understand is comments from older people like this one is why you feel the need to imply criticism and indeed be explicitly critical of the subsequent generation. By all means compliment Bruce Welch but why the need to criticise younger people because they don’t fit your mould? As my mother used to say, if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.
@@canderson1955 I’m only 24 years old

Hank Marvin, a true Master of his art..... Just listen to this, it's exactly like the original.....
Great to hear and see them, still playing very good. 👏👏👏👏
Brian Bennett is a drummer I could listen to all day long, and he's still a brilliant drummer.
It hurts to get old but more when u see the stars ageing with u. They gave us happiness without boundaries.
Sometime in the early '70's I was in North Finchley looking for a certain road, I stopped my van, went up to the first person that I saw ... clip-board in hand (I was working) didn't look straight at the person who I had 'accosted', he then started to give me directions, it was then that I looked up and realised it was Bruce Welch !!! OMG ... I was beside myself, I hadn't a clue what he was saying, none of it was going in !!! I just said thank you, got back in my van, calmed down, waited awhile and then asked someone else !!!
They have been my favourite group since my teenage . Still my favourite .I grew up listening to them .I am 66 , still madly in love with them .They made my youth happy .Unmatched .
A brilliant instrumental that will live forever - just like Hank; he looks (almost) the same as he did sixty years ago, incredible!
Must be the great Perth weather.
Still makes heart flutter !
Shadows was one of my favourite I have all of your pieces on CD. Cliff was my favourites too I I am happy to relisten to this golden era Music. Than you for Re- Member my old memory!!!
I remember it well (I'm 82) and it WAS different and pretty easy on the ears. It's nice to see other older guys still playing and enjoying it. Thanks guys.
Apache. A timeless guitar instrumental. 🎸 🎶
No words can express the meaning of what time has abandoned other than being a refugee of the past with no where to run.
APACHE continues to be GREAT. WE DON'T TALK ANY MORE IS MY FAVORITE Cliff Richards song...and has been for decades.
I saw the group play on stage at the London Palladium, in around 1963/64 when I was about 8 years old (with my older sisters!). Memorable.
Hank you're the best guitarist of all time bar none even though I love Knopfler, Clapton, the Edge, jJimmy Page, Gerry Mcgee etc, and the reason is simply because you don't have any room for error, your notes are the words. Been lucky enough to hear you live.. Wow what a gift God gave you..please don't stop giving us new music..
OMG~~~~~one of my FAVORITE Song titles of all times!! I was 17 when Apache came out!!
This piece of music and that terrific scene in the film "Scandal" where the girls are getting ready to go "hunting" Incredible...
Apache what a great song man it's been out a long time and I still love it today what a beautiful piece of artwork
Great music. From the best group of the 60s
A friend of mine wrote Adam Faith's hits, aided by John Barry, they all sounded the same, this Shadows song deserved to be no 1
These three men and their mate got me sober 43 years ago and still rock and rolling sober am I greatful you bet IAm Rock and Stan NQ. Aus
I just love this - was a teenager in the 60s - will always be in my all time top ten -
That clean twangy guitar sound never ceases to do it for me. Its so pure, sweet honest and there s nowhere to hide like there is with distortion. knopfler and Albert Lee are two more of many fine clean sound exponents. Bless em all.
Lots and lots and lots of love to the whole team and Thanks warmheartedly..
Regards ✌👊🙏🙏🙏🙏
The Shadows, absolutely brilliant, always will be THE BEST
Ohh that music! It takes me right back to the Saturday morning children's film club at my local cinema. They usually played Apache as we went in and settled down, and the sound of it playing loud and echoing round the auditorium gave me chills!
Hello 👋 Pat. How are you doing? Hope you are fine. I'm Scott Clifford am from Denver Colorado. Where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
What a great emotion! Unforgettable Shadows, they make me remind my youth, my dreams and hopes and a world much better than today.
Sir Hank Marvin ? Why has this not happened, he's a legend - and a much under-rated all round guitarist. The role model for thousands of aspiring guitarists for 60 years. Lets start a campaign !!
Dude. True.
@@mitchconnerandsometimesjlotoo He was offered the honour but refused it.
@@bertsongs No, he wasn't offered the honour, friend, he was offered an OBE and refused that.
'Guitar legend Hank Marvin revealed he turned down an OBE "for personal and private reasons".
The musician who fronts the Shadows - Britain's most successful instrumental group - declined the honour while band members drummer Brian Bennett and rhythm guitarist Bruce Welch both accepted an OBE.
In a brief statement issued through his personal manager Brian Goode, Marvin said: "I feel very honoured to have been recommended for an OBE and I'm happy that both Bruce and Brian have also been recognised.
"However for personal and private reasons I've decided not to accept it."'
@@ClaimOfRightMuso I stand corrected. I must have misread it back in the day.
My biggest inspiration.I was at the O2.
When I was a little child in the early 60's I used to apparently go crazy when this came on the radio. I say apparently because I was too young to remember myself. I think one of my sisters went out and eventually bought the record. But I still like it today! A classic! Thanks.
What a treat to see these LEGENDS , Happy Memories of Bygone Day's of the 60's
For me emotions are shaken awake, I get tears in my eyes. Simply great to see this old hand again. Thank you heroes.
Big Daddy, did you mean "hand" or band?
Timeless legends
I was there when it happened. I had a 10" 4 track tape recorder and added my own words. 'slow down the railway, slowdown the train, my lovers back there,,,,,,,,, and so it continued. Hank Marvin took the guitar to the next level. And now we have Rap!
Love the Shadows, Hank is still so recognisable from 1960!Amazing group. 🙂👍
There are no words to describe such good music. Simply unrepeatable 😕
Hank Marvin is the soul.
Just wonderful.i dont know who enjoyed this more. Love to all.🤗🤗🥰🥰💕💕
These guys are still so easy to listen to. Such a small drum kit, such a good sound.
Love them! Always will! Reminds me of my dad, he loved them too as a young man in the 60s .... BSA, Norton, triumphs, Etc.... when England was truly great!! 🏴🏴🏴🏴👌🏽👍🏽😎
That guitar tone! It's such an iconic tone.
It's one of the most recognized tunes in the world.
