- Bad endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

The way God Rugal tosses away Akuma at the start of the fight reminds me of (and is probably a reference to) the secret fight with Akuma in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, where he appears and takes out M. Bison to start the first round.
For someone who's not that into Fighting games, you still cover a fair share of them, and as a massive Fighting game fan, I love your channel all the more.
Also do NOT make up names like UltShinmate Akugal God because the mugen community is mad enough to make one clusterfuck of a character from that alone

try to repeat a combo with special imputs in the arcade against the IA, then, slowly, you get used to repeat the combo, you don't even need to remember it, and when you remember it, you already did it

Ah yes, CVS2. My first real exposure to the world of SNK was watching Maximilian Dood’s Boss Rage for this game. It’s a shame I only really got into SNK after Terry got into Smash Bros.

@@uandresbrito5685 Interesting fact: Asuras are an class of demonic beings who possesed god powers according to the Hindu Mythology (Goes back to more then 4000 BC). It may be a fan-made name in the videogames, but the actual Hindu and even Buddhist scriptures about Asura proves otherwise.
@@VISC3RA First of all it "doesn't prove otherwise" because it's still non canon. It could literally be named "Devil Rugal" or "God Gouki" and if Capcom said so.
With that out of the way... Yeah, it's a pretty cool fact. Akuma can be considered somewhat of a demon and Rugal has a little spare of power of an actual god of nature, so it's pretty much an asura indeed. Also the fusion name popularized on Mugen.
@@uandresbrito5685 Right, that's why i specifically pointed out to Asura and didn't really bother what names both Akuma or Rugal will suit them the most. And yeah the word Asura hasn't been mentioned in both of the SNK or Capcom games, besides MUGEN.

Ah the good ol' days. So many hours spent on this one.
I always remember talking to my cousins about them making another game and having "Super Akugal" as a boss lol.
I'm pretty sure the true endings are meant to be a teaser for CvS3, we just never got it for a multitude of reasons.
Capcom fighting games would soon enter a decline, not helped by the poor test audience reception and subsequent cancellation of Capcom Fighting All-Stars, followed up by its disastrous replacement: the poorly executed recycled asset game Capcom Fighting Jam (Also known as Capcom Fighting Evolution) which basically killed Capcom fighting games until Street Fighter 4 came out.
Meanwhile, SNK never saw any personal profits from CvS1 and 2, their end of the bargain was getting to use Capcom characters for their own crossover games. Those games were: SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighters Clash 1 and 2, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium, SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom, and a DS sequel to the Card Fighters games. None of them were very profitable for SNK, mostly because the first Card Fighters games and Match of the Millennium were Neo-Geo Pocket Color games, a system that never saw widespread popularity outside Japan. SVC Chaos was one of the last Neo-Geo games, and as such, its visual presentation paled in comparison to the CvS games, looking "cheaper" in comparison, and thus never really grabbed the audience Capcom's games did. Card Fighters DS is notorious for having a horrible bug that makes progression impossible past a certain point unless you have one of the replacement copies they gave to people who went through the proper channels to get a fixed copy. As a result of SNK getting the short end of the stick with their own SvC games, the chances of SNK and Capcom directly working together again are slim to none (Barring games were their characters are both third party guests such as Smash Ultimate or Tekken 7).
Side note: Match of the Millennium is actually really good and charming and deserves to be played. It's a hidden gem and surprisingly very VERY good for a handheld fighting game.
Weird how the last SNK vs Capcom crossover is the only bad one. (Still my favorite tho)
SvC Chaos sets literally in purgatory, in the bad ending you don't get out of it and you are not seen again on the real world.

Bad endings in fighting games are usually very tame, since they are hardly ever serious enough to make you feel like everything is going to be doomed or something... One rare example is SvC's bad ending, which is a very rough text-based ending with a still image, portraying an extremely unsatisfying feel of unfinished work. Your character is also missing forever and the music is kinda sad, so there's that, too.
Then there's soul edge bad endings

That really sucks to know that there will be no other ending its as if something was scrapped? Maybe the limitations was too much? I wonder what they would have been like...

I recall trying to beat the boss rush mode, hoping to fight the fusion of Akuma and Rugal. I tried beating with a high GP score, beating without losing a single round, and of course not running into Shin Akuma in the final stage because he's way faster than Ultimate/God Rugal... And nothing.
Kinda of a shame, although losing a match in the boss rush gives you a game over, so even if there was something else, i don't think i would go as far to try again just to get one chance to fight it. Or at least back in the days, where i was pretty... Average at fighting games. I'm still pretty avegare though, just slightly better.
Funnily enough, i even had a dream where i managed to get into the fight against the fusion of Akuma and Rugal at least two times, and of course i got destroyed even there. I was very curious about it and i even searched if you get to fight him if you managed to reach certain conditions, but nope. Quite dissapointed to find out you don't fight against him at all.
Oh well, there's always MUGEN, i guess.
Capcom vs. Snk 2 is one of the greatest fighting games ever

I feel like this is a fighting game but with the presentation of a Dance Dance Revolution game from the U.I to the announcer.
They would be great to have fun decimating the other fighters in subsequent playthroughs, but they had to fuck it up and SEVERELY NERF THEM once you unlock them. Not only their damage output is almost the same as any other character but their life meter is half of any regular fighter! They can't even be categorized as glass cannons since they don't even have a good enough kick of any of their techniques besides the level 3 DMs
Someone bringing in snacks and drinks and bam having a good old time playing fighting games...

I played this game when I was a kid, and it was fucking brutal. I finally managed to kill both Akuma and Rugal's strongest forms after 2 weeks, when my father decided to help me
Late answer but I still remember the first time I got to fight Shin Akuma, when I was 7 or 8 years old... I was like: WTF? Super Akuma?? I just sat there watching him kick my ass for around an HOUR (that's right) before I managed to beat him.
And yeah, I thought his name was Super Akuma because you only could see "S. Akuma" written

You should look at Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Heritage for the future if you doing creepy bad ending on fighting games. One of its endings is pretty unsettling
That game is very story-heavy, but it's to be expected, since it doesn't have the plot of a fighting game.

Sadly, Megaman 11 was mediocre in comparison to 10, and it's been 4 years without a AA game, besides the remake. Darkstalkers is dead without a Brand new game since the 90's and it's been really long that we don't heard a sequel about SF. ;-;
Those bosses are insanely cheap on the Dreamcast. They stand there, wait for you to move or press a button and just hit you with a clean counter. Its an impossible fight.

God, those two bosses tore me a new one all the time. I managed to beat them once. I think I still have the save data on my PS2 memory card...but I don't have the game on the PS2 anymore so it does me no good.

So i think i know what happened to rugal.
In streets fighter 4 theres a character named Oni who is just Akuma who finally sucumbed to the satsui no hado and became a whole new entity that entity being Oni (not to be confused by shin akuma) the reason Oni is different from akuma is that akuma was a warrior through and through, even if he is still a villain you can clearly see he had adopted the satsui no hado to gain strength and always looked to fight the strongest warriors like ryu and other so he had a Moral code of sorts he used the satsui no hado as a means to help him achieve his goal but he always aimed to train and improve.
Meanwhile rugal while idk to much about him but what i remember is that he just cared for power and destruction, he was a influential arms dealer and just wanted to become a powerful man even to the point of absorbing the orochi power and getting cybernetics on his eye and arm so in short he didnt care how he gets to be powerful he just wanted that to achieve it, even the snk devs called him "the cheapest bastard ever",so what i assume happened was that rugal mind was weak because he had no moral code or humanity left in him hence why he got turned into what i pressume to be Oni just in Rugal body

It makes me wonder if these endings were hinting toward a sequel. Its a shame we never did get a CvS3. I would have loved to see some more characters like Andy Bogard and some from later SF games.
Snk vs Capcom Chaos too has a bad ending i think it should be covered
Probably not worth it. It's a single bad ending for every character. The good endings are very good and the going to Heaven/Hell cutscene is beautiful, but the requirements are way too tough for someone who's not into fighting games.

In the 2001 a lot of children were confused as shit at the endings. Lol.
CVS1 tbh has far worse endings instead of the bosses doing the fusion dance and making you beat their powered up forms, every outcome in that game involves the bosses outright killing your team off with Dan hibiki and Joe whats-his-name taking their place as the winners with no such "what they did afterwards" text. However in CVSP, the updated edition, takes a piss on these endings and your team survives and takes their prize anyways
hey git/adams/lub lub etc. you should check (and review) snk vs capcom chaos, that game completely embodies the spirits of what comprises a true bad ending. the game has weird visuals, barren, desolate stages devoid of mankind and yet with a hint of uneasiness, as if the end of the world had just taken place. the themes are gloomy and twisted, mostly silent but not in a calming soothing way. the player has to meet some requirements in order to face the real final boss, either athena azamiya or red areemer, each with their own matching alternate stage, and losing to the former results in your character being turned into an animal, while defeat to the latter means joining the ghouls and ghost world. failing to fulfil the conditions to face them also results in the game's generic bad ending (character x no longer seen again, gone since their last "fateful" battle etc). notice how the game title is snk vs capcom, and not capcom vs snk, which means that snk were mostly responsible for this release, which means that the characters art style is far less colourful. the ambience is dark overall, and noticeably less cheery than the usual capcom atmosphere.
Backing this, Git really has to see that game

I was never into SNK fighting games. I felt button mashers like myself were punished by the CPU and outright executed by real players. Its very technical. This game was fun tho. I enjoyed using the C stick for the game cube to make easy and cheesy combos

Yeah its one of my favorite fighting games and that always bugged me that in both instances both characters went shin-orochi powered and nothing happened with the powers each had they had more than enough physicality to decimate who ever had just beat them.and anyone else in line.

Never quite understood why this game says "Dark" power rather than "Orochi" power. By the time 2001 rolled around, anyone even slightly knowledgeable about the KOF series would've likely known its proper name, especially since the (at the time) current NESTS saga alluded to it at certain points. And those who weren't might want to hear what such an apparently important plot device is actually referred to as in its native game. Same goes for "Evil Energy" in place of "Satsui no Hado". But maybe I'm just nitpicking at Rugal's particular nomenclature for the two.
Althought I agree that Rugal is one of the coolest, most badass fighting games' bosses ever, I still think Geese deserved more to be the "ultimate SNK villain" in this game.
He was already the final boss with Bison in CvS1, so it was about time they used Rugal. Mr.Karate would also work.

Theory: A CVS 3 was supposed to see the light but never happened. Seeing how Ultra/Ultimate/God Rugal & Shin Akuma/Gouki ended up after they were defeated, my guess is that what they became is what they were gonna be as the big bosses of the game.

When you beat the game with sf characters you get rugal and snj gets akuma I was playing this game until I got a 360 in 2010. Also you die is the true ending if you think about it 5 people died. I mean you pick 3 of the 5 and rugal and akuma are the remaining 2

@@uandresbrito5685 Not every ending in King of Fighters 97 is the same. You may want to read up on those endings as they are very different. The New Faces ending is pretty much the 'bad' ending for that game. You only get a generic ending saying that 'humanity is the enemy' if you choose 3 team members from various different teams for the most part.
