That looks like a 2.7L four wacker. I did the same years ago on my 2003 Tacoma Prerunner but at the same time, I replaced the water pump, belts, hoses, etc. That thermostat housing is such a weird setup. I've never seen one like that before, so in my haste to install the new thermostat, the seal wasn't properly seated and the housing cracked! I had to order a new housing. All the new anti freeze poured over the alternator which caused the battery to short out after starting the engine. Yes, the parts cannon got more expensive.
