LEGO Technic RC boat explores the ancient sunken city of Epidaurus

- About fifty meters off the coast of the beach Kalymnios, under the Acropolis of Ancient Epidaurus, and just two meters below sea level lie the ancient remains of a Roman villa from the 2nd century AD. The villa was situated close to the Agora which was located opposite the port. According to archaeologists, the ruins used to be a Villa Rustica (large rural Roman villa) where wealthy Romans lived together with their servants.
To explore these ruins, and since even the best BlueTooth controllers lose signal at about 50 meters (less over water), I built a fully RC research vessel that carries three cameras and a drone. The drone can take off the flight deck to locate the target, and the vessel follows to capture underwater footage of the site. One camera (cellphone) is situated in the bridge to capture epic "captain's eye" footage, and one action camera faces backward on the deck.
Research vessel V1.0 specs :
Propulsion : 2x LEGO RC motors
Steering : 1x RC servo motor
Battery : 3-cell LiPo
Remote Controller : FlySky FS-i6 with 6-channel receiver
Electronic Speed Control (ESC) : Hobbywing Quicrun 1060
Footage was shot on LG G6 cellphone (bridge), Apeman A77 action camera (deck), Sony HDR-AS30V action camera (underwater), and DJI Mavic Mini drone (aerial).

Would you like to see a slightly improved version of that boat exploring a sunken airplane that is even further from the coast? Let me know in the comments!
100% do it, also do you have advice for me too? I’m using my Lego exploration ship to explore a crashed ww2 plane. All I could think of is a underwater camera attached to a deep diving rope that can extend 4 metres deep.
@@techlogiantbricks8279@ techlogiantbricks8329 To lower a camera so deep, you should go for a platform that is lowered with ropes from all four corners. The mounting points should also have enough space between them to avoid spinning the platform. If you try to lower the camera with a single rope it will definitely start spinning. A simpler and safer solution would be to mount the camera under the boat as I did. That way you avoid the camera getting caught on the wreck or other object on the sea floor, as you will have absolutely no clue about the camera position once it is lowered. Finally, another option is to build a fully submersible vehicle, but that's much harder.

@@brickandgear thanks for you reply, you share lots of info with me. I have another question, what do you mean that I make a submersible out of Lego bricks? I always wanted to do it but it’s way too hard, you need to make it so that the sub can descend under the water and also rise up, this project just seems impossible. Even if it’s possible, the motors with the battery box can get damaged if it leaked
That is so freaking cool! Both the boat and seeing such ruins so close to the shoreline.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'm sure you'll love my next adventure as well.
its insane how there is a sunken city just off the coast, amazing video.
Thank you! I hope you enjoy my next project as well! Sunken airplane!
I feel like that's where you'd most likely find one. Lol.
Idk if others have this feeling but when I watched small soldiers, there was this end scene where the sentient toys hop on a boat that’s in scale with them and sail out to sea. Ever since then I love seeing toys and figures in real life areas; Lego buildings in the grass, transformer figures fighting or driving through a sandy beach or exploring a forest. And especially toy boats with figures on them, as they search the ocean. Idk why but it’s so fun
I feel you! That is the reason why I place minifigures even in places that are not visible to the camera. I know they are there, and it makes the ship feel alive to me!
That boat ride and the swimmers saying hello human was fun
More will follow!
this is so cool!! i hope to see more adventures from this crew
You will!
This is the greatest build I ever see. A amazing Lego Moc. 😃👍
Thank you so much! I've got another mission for a slightly improved version of that boat, and then more adventures with different vehicles!
This video is the best Lego boat video I’ve seen
Thank you! 🙏
Awesome build, great video, and such a beautiful country. The scenery was gorgeous, and the history of a sunken city was intriguing.
Stay tuned for more adventurous videos in the future!
The ship's rolling a lot. While a catamaran hull design is more stable than single hull, you still need keels and fins along the sides and bottom to lessen the roll. I would also recommend storing the heavy battery pack lower on the ship and use smaller motors.
Hello! Thank you for the informative comment! Could you check out my merchant ship video? I'd love to hear your opinion on that vessel.
a SWATH style catamaran hull with deep displacement pods would give more stability, you could design it to be suitable for 3 to 4 inch waves. look up SWATH and Trisec design ships.
You have a new sub I am blown away by the amount of work you have put into this.
Thank you so much for supporting my work! I hope you enjoy my next projects as well!
Love your videos hope to see more amazing work and I hope you have a wonderfully amazing day.
Thank you so much! I am currently designing a boat that will explore a sunken US Army airplane!
Lego is amazing! I felt this again after watching this video.
It's no longer just a toy to play with at home.
There's truly no limit to what we can do with LEGO bricks!
Bro has more lego technic pcs then the whole world combined
I wish! 😁
Thats awesome how you built a floating Lego RC boat! But i do feel like there could be a way to make the turning radius gears a little bigger.
You are correct. Those small servos turn less than 90 degrees and I wasn't aware of that when designing the boat. I actually made a modification with larger gears in order to achieve tighter turns, but in the end I stuck with my original design, as the mission didn't require great maneuverability. I'm taking my first steps in proper RC gear, so I'm learning as I go.
this is beautiful

This is really cool.

The only improvement I would make is adding a small RC submarine attached by a string. That might be slightly difficult, but I think it might look nice
And be fun to “explore” with

I looked up lego boats saw this and said "Been there, seen the ruins, there're bloody awesome, and now I want to spend the several hours I don't have trying this for myself!"
I was, however, surprised by the lack of yachts! Usually there are tons!
Me too. Apart from one group of swimmers, there was no human presence near the ruins. There was a group of Italian geologists on the pier! Showed them the ruins from the drone feed! 😁
So cool. Congratulations .

Hello brick&gear
I have another question for u, can you tell me what Lego motors you used and what remote you used to control your vessel, if possible can you show me how to use your remote? I might also use your type of mechanism for my Lego exploration vessel
I used two RC motors, but I have replaced them with L motors. You can use any 2.4GHz controller for RC vehicles. However, you'll need an electronic speed controller for each channel that drives motors, a receiver, batteries (I use LiPo, but they can be dangerous if you don't use them properly) and servo motors. I'll upload a video sometime in the near future explaining some of the electronics and procedures.
Great! Now make a submarine with an oceangate livery
No minifigure will want to dive with it!
This is the shit we live for
I know... Check out my sunken airplane exploration as well!
nice technic boat, but the view of camera looks more like u boat :) Maybe your next special physics lego technic product :)
I've actually got plans for submersible, but I have so little time!
I would love to build lego ships like this but ordering lego can be really expensive where did you get all of yours
Hello! Almost all of my builds are based on parts from the Bucket wheel excavator (42055), and a single order from BrickLink.
Yo you have the coolest lego' ever!🤑😱💪🏻🤛🏻👨🏼🎨
I'm glad you like my builds! Unfortunately I don't get to keep them. I always dismantle them to build something new.
Very cool boat, i like the big size of it, cool electronics, now i wonder how fast can lego go on water.
What if you put 4 propellors or 6 with the same 2 motors ?
Today I tested that boat with a few changes, and I believe that my next boat would probably have four motors/propellers for better speed.
Have a question: Here in Australia, we have strict gun laws
Do you think that it’s legal to play with Lego guns in public In Australia?
Also, Do you know if it’s legal to use it for self defence too?
I honestly don't know about that. Anything gun related should be checked out with the proper authority first.
Awesome !! How many hours of conception and build ? Amazing job 😉
Hello! Designing and building took around 10 hours. Shooting and editing the video is the hard part.
😊
Bro trusts little plastic pieces with all his electornics more than I trust Ohio with sheltering aliens.
In LEGO we trust... 😁
Your video is great ! Can yo tell me where do you buy these amount of LEGO Technic parts ?
Hello and thank you for commenting! Most of my parts come from the Bucket wheel excavator (42055), and one BrickLink order of plates and other pieces. I'll probably make another BrickLink order soon though, as I want to build even bigger boats!
Yes
is there a blueprint for this boat so perhaps...someone else could make one? asking for myself
No, but you can get inspired and build something similar!
I learned about geography, ancient history and lego building all in one video 😮👏 Please tell me you have a Submarine video?!
My pleasure! I've built a very basic submarine in the past and have plans to build something better in the future to explore a WWII shipwreck. Here's my first attempt on a sub : ruclips.net/video/6GY4684Npgg/видео.html
@@brickandgear thanks for your reply. I checked out your Submarine video, very cool! I like how you do your videos and music, very enjoyable. Did you get any inspiration from other RUclips Lego builders?
For the sub I was inspired by the Brick Experiment channel. I saw their LEGO powered sub in a jar, so I thought about building one made entirely from LEGO Technic elements, and in the future a massive meter long proper sub that can traverse the sea!
@@brickandgear great! I have seen the submarine from BEC channel too. His method was very clever. I am excited to see your full length Submarine version! 🤩👍

Gotta be honest, my anxiety for the little guys was over the roof
I always take care of my crew!
I have an idea. Why don't you make a large barge. The larger and shorter something is the sturdier it is. To stop wind interference, slope the sides. And make the sloped walls go over the drone landing pad, so the barge will catch it. And you can add a little sub underneath if you have room.
The small sub is nice. Quite ambitious though...
This is somehow... similar to the imagination I had as a child... going out to sea on my own ship and doing what I wanted... this is really romantic
It is! 🙂
is that a lego set or did you make it custom?
Hello! Everything you see in the channel, except the 41999 crawler, is custom.
How to Buy it
My only concern is with the electric parts, water and electricity can prove fatal. Are the components waterproof? If they are then that would be alright.
The ESC is waterproof. I also sealed the receiver, battery and all connections. (The battery and receiver can be sealed inside deflated balloons)
Good to know

how did you make the base of the boat
The two hulls are LEGO Technic, and the filing is styrofoam.
You can make a bigger hélice the boat was slow so a bigger hélice make the boat more speed
And if you were ambitious enough, you could add small tracks on the bottom to make it amphibious.
This shi is truly amazing ! what is that strange blue thing at 15:25 &
Thanks! The blue thing is probably something from the site that was collected, bagged and left there from the department of archaeology for future use. I think I've seen something similar in other sites in Greece.
15:23 What's that blue thing there?
Something the department of archaeology packed up and left onsite.
what is the name of lego please tell me
It's my own build.
I used to build Lego ships then sink them on a bathtub or a little pool then my dad got mad at me side he thinks they’ll get moldy. But I told him: dude. There is literally a giant hull brick meant for using in water
Ships and boats are meant to be in the water, whether they float or not... 😁

Did you try landing the drone on it?
No. The boat was sitting too low on the water and the waves would sometimes go over the deck. Too dangerous to get the drone wet.
