Thanks a ton for this! I almost gave up on this game since my game group is 3 and my son is too young for the theme/content. This is a great variant and most of my 10ish plays so far have been quite evenly balanced! Quickly becoming one of my fav games; I appreciate your work!
I wanted this game so bad, as it looks so good and I love the art/theme. But since I only play solo I had to pass. Thanks for creating a solo variant. 👍🏼
So happy to see you have a solo mode for this one. I have the Deluxe edition and with Covid striking again, it's difficult for me to foresee when I will be able to play this one with an actual human being. It looks very clean, can't wait to try it.
Love your videos Mike. I recently discovered you while searching for Dune Imperium, which I bougt right after watching your video. Currently I'm backing the new Santorini on Kickstarter and am thinking of adding Radlands Super Deluxe to my pledge as I've been wanting to have that game for some time now. I love Roxley games (BIG fan of Dice Throne). The thing holding me back on Radlands is the 2-player count, as my game group is bigger and some other people I play with already own their own copy and my kid is not old enough to play this (Santorini is a different story of course!). But now I encounter another video of yours WITH a solo mode, so I'm sold. So kudos voor the video's you're making and creating different solo modes. Keep up the good work!

I have one more question, sorry. How do you handle making decisions for the automa that would typically break your priority rule, but benefit the automa? Example- in my game they had a Gunner in play which for 2 water injures all unprotected people. Should I activate that before the damage abilities if it would technically be a better play than prioritizing damage? Sorry, I am not trying to find holes in your design, just wanting to play as intended.
Wow, thank you so much for this! I've had Radlands Deluxe sitting on my shelf still in shrink, taunting me every day. It being a competitive 2-player game, I knew there was a likelihood of it not hitting the table often, but I couldn't resist the design, packaging, art, colors, everything. The KS campaign was so polished. Thanks to you, the game now stands a chance of getting played very soon. Generally speaking, about how long does it take for you to develop solo variants? It seems like a fun subset of the hobby.
It’s tough to find time sometimes, since I’m designing our own original games, doing the RUclips channel and podcast, and of course working and doing family stuff :) But once I commit, depending on complexity, 3 days to 1 month is about right.
@@OneStopCoopShop That's amazing - I'm barely finding time to just get games out of the shrink. Thanks again for introducing the variant. I appreciate the content as always!
Hey Mike, I am giving your solo rules a try today and had a question. How does the automa handle the destroy icon? I don't see it mentioned on the priority lists for their decisions. They have an assassin out and wondering if they would use it before damage? Also, when my raid card goes off, how does priority work for which of their bases to hit? Would I use their damage priority backwards(seeing is they would want their weakest base hit first)? So far so good, but i am not sure I am placing their people right but working through it. Thanks!
Thanks for trying it out! To answer your questions: 1 - destroy uses the same priority as damage 2 - yes, when they are making decisions for their own units or raids against them, they reverse the priority order
Good stuff as always, Mike. I'm not sure if you take requests, but I would absolutely love to find a solo variant of Wonderlands War once it starts shipping soon.
Oh yeah, that one looked interesting! I'll look into it. My next ones, if you are curious, are: Sakura Arms (80% done) Super Fantasy Brawl (95% done) Steampunk Rally (10% done)
@@TheTXSaint it's a 1v1 fighting game. New edition from Level 99 Games is delivering in some places now (but won't be in US until maybe March or April). It's great!
@@patriziopastore9895 cool! Going to work more on it soon. That one should be VERY straightforward, based on my initial concept, so shouldn't take long!
Hi Mike, are you sure you can use the Bombardment event to hit protected camps? I tried to find that specific answer and couldn’t. That’s the only rule that I still find unclear. Other cards specify any camp, but not this one so I assume they need to be up protected. Thanks
It's an interesting question. I would lean towards it hitting all camps, protected or not, because of its ridiculous cost and 3 timing. Otherwise your opponent could pretty easily protect them right before it triggers and make it a 4-water waste :) But if Roxley says otherwise, I'll add a subtitle to the video with the correction! Thanks for asking!
Yes, bombardment hits all camps. Whenever there are specific targeting rules on a card's ability or event text, it overrides the default targeting rules of only being able to damage unprotected cards.
That's entirely up to you. I've been enjoying playing a lot of solo, but I'm also playing 1v1 with my sons, so I can't say how I'd feel if it was my solo and nothing else.
Great variant! I wasn't going to get the game due to lack of solo support, but now I'm reconsidering with your design. Have you thought of creating different personality cards for your opponent that reference their priorities for cost, junking, attacking, etc.? I can see this design becoming "unlocked" which will stagnate the challenge of solo play. As an aside, have you dabbled in solo design using AI boards? E.g., AI's decisions adapt based on player (and their) actions by moving one or more tracking tokens that thus affect their next turn's decision.
So far the variety has been nice both because of the card draw the automa has to deal with, and the differences in your own bases and the strategies you can pursue. I've done much more complex and varied automa for games like Exceed, but I'm not sure that is needed here :) And I've dabbled in a lot of AI designs for our own games, but for solo variants like this my goal is to, whenever possible, limit the components to what came in the game (and maybe one printable reminder card). I don't like to force a lot of PNP-ing ;)
Hey Mike, did Roxely ask you to film this with these color settings? Their cards look really washed out in reality and yours look really great, but seeing how the water drop is not blue at all I assume you tempered with the colors of the video trying to make the cards more vibrant. I really wish the real colors were as the once you showed here. I even reached out to them about this and they said they made these washed blacks intentionally, but now I see they are doing their best reviewers to use colors that are not the real ones.
I... what? This is filmed with literally the exact same lighting set-up I use for every one of my videos. I've never done color correction for any of our content. I'm not even sure how to do that in the editing software I use! I have the retail version of the game, not the deluxe, so I can't speak to how those cards look, but these cards look great. Maybe the deluxe ones with the plastic cards were colored differently?
@@OneStopCoopShop I see, I guess this is only an issue with the Deluxe version with the plastic cards. That's so frustrating. The Deluxe version should be the best looking one, but with this game I guess it's the other way around. Thanks for the respond.

Nice one, Mike! Just a heads up, I think the Mutant can do damage *and* heal/repair a card if you choose, unless that was changed.
