Salvador: what a terrific, raw film.
There's usually a scene in an Oliver Stone film, when an older man let's a younger man in on the secrets of how the world really works.

Fantastic film. I happened to be in El Salvador in 1986 and when I returned to the States, there was the film Salvador playing at a theater in Santa Barbara. Very emotional experience being down there then.

I was one of those American soldiers in El Salvador in the 1980s. A lot of this movie was Hollywoodized, but I recommend it overall.

I think even former soldiers like myself can see through the hollywood parts...and get the message....how the u.s. government operates...training and/or advising so to speak or not...as with the current ukraine situation where green berets had trained the Ukrainians and 200 national guard soldiers were there training Ukrainians and national guard arty units are training Ukrainians in Germany and soon back in somalia/africa......the raw death that latin america still sees, the way the local authorities work, the military, rebels, diplomats. I get the gist of it and it connects oliver's movies to how the government works.....it's a trail or education that most can't or won't see....

The El Salvador war must have been a tough subject to make a movie out of. So little was really known about it because most of the news and literature at the time was partisan agenda-driven.

Back in the 1980's a good friend of mine at age 26 commited suicide. He graduated with good grades in Communications from Weber State College. Today in 2017 he'd be 54 years old. He was starting his career in radio , news and DJ.. Back in the 1980's ED was convinced that Reagan or Bush was going to bring back the draft , and draft him into a war with Central America. As a boy Ed was always sickened by what we did in Vietnam and did not want to see a repeat of Vietnam. Ed was rite,, in 2002 Bush II repeated a Vietnam in Iraq !!

I'm curious to know how wrong Stone and this film were. He's renowned for his inaccuracies, even in his own stories such as Platoon. The Village massacre never happened and he even said last month he thought that stuff was far overblown, but he made the scene anyway because it made the war in Vietnam look even worse.

@@johnbailey2850there were some village massacres but everything in that movie is more of a loose retelling (ofc there are deniers in real life), the way they killed Romero was way different, the names were different, so don't take anything at face vallue,
