- 09.30.20 | 6:33 PM | CALISTOGA - Huge flames can be seen ripping through the forest from the Glass Fire, near Old Lawley Toll Rd near Highway 25 in Calistoga, California. Air operations are dropping water on the fire. Structures along Old Lawley Toll Rd are potentially threatened. Wildlife could be seen desperately escaping the massive wildfires.

These fires werent as bad as the Australian fire at the beginning of the year where an estimated 1 billion animals were killed.

Nanette, sending you prayers my heart aches for you. I live in So. Cal the Bobcat fire got within in 6 miles of our home. Far but not far enough. My husband and I slept in shifts. Just to try an not get caught off guard. Pay attention to the evacuation warnings.

My heart aches too knowing that many wildlife will not survive these fires because of their speed. And thinking about all of those gorgeous very old tall trees, Redwood or Seqouia, being burned down makes me very sad
because I grew up in Northern California and know very well many of these places that have already been hit hard by a wildfire or is in an evacuation watch/warning area
I'm praying for all who are affected by the fires. I've got relatives and close friends in some of those wildfire locations which I've been unable to reach for about 4 days now I'm trying to reach an in-law who lives in NorCal in the hopes of getting some info on a few family members.

To God...these precious wildlife are important. It’s sad, so sad, to see all this. Hurting for the people that have lost everything...some their lives. Also sad to see the wildlife affected. Praying for resolve, and encouragement for everyone down there suffering. It’s hard to watch.

It's fine. Animals are very well adapted to wildfires genetically (and escaping them). If it fears anything, it's the helicopters, airplanes and human activity more than a fire itself.

But that is literally the cycle of life historically, predators and prey (mountain lions, bears, humans, and other animals eating ruminant animals for our survival). If the wind is blowing hard, it doesn't matter how much brush you clear, the fire will still burn through. The wind is the problem, not how much we clear.
@R Petry we do. We are to have a defendable space around our homes if we live in rural areas. It's the law. But like I said, if the wind is blowing, cleared space does no good. The wind is the problem.

I live in San Bruno and this is the first year in decades that it's been this hot. Never did we have temperatures in 80s and 90s for this long. I am so ready for summer to be over and for the rain to begin. Also, besides cleaning the forest, there must be something else that can be done. All these wealthy people in tech, develop something! Scientist as well. BUT then again, it is not wealthy that suffer, but middle class and poor, so why would they care.
I agree. This is the worst fire season we've had in a very long time. Temperatures to high, it was 108 here in the Kern River Valley, wind is blowing hard and hot. With all that money and smarts, you would think they could come up with something.

There was a lot more communication going on then what you heard just now. I will guarantee there’s a lot of operations going and they are probably trying to fire out some of the fuels. They may have hand crews working and discussing fire behavior and safety of the boots on the ground. I have no idea per se because I’m not there but those are a couple of possibilities. 🙂

Seek forestry advice from President Trump, he has consulted experts and researched expert advice from Countries in Europe that have intact forests, that are not burning and in fact trees that are even more flammable than California, but not burning.
