- A quick look at the stamps of the legendary stamp engraver Czeslaw Slania, from his 1st stamp in 1950 to his final one in 2004. Slania engraved more than 1000 stamps for more than 30 different countries, during a career spanning more than 50 years. He is widely considered the greatest stamp engraver to practice the art.

Nice to have the music back. With or without the music, your videos are always a delight to watch and learn from.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate your watching.
My brother in law once shared hotel room with Czesław Słania, when their flight to Stockholm was overbooked :) He had no idea who was he until the started to chat about what they did for living. Słania showed him his toolkit some unfinished engravings.
Wow, great story.
@@tedtalksstamps Great things - something that happens to others :D
What a fascinating, trhoroughly enjoyable talk, Ted. Learned so much not only about Slania but about engraving and stamps more generally. Many thanks.
Thank you Martin. I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Fascinating!! Yes please do a follow up video at some point with more of his work. I had a ‘Where’s Waldo’ moment with that 1973 ski stamp 🤓
LOL. Where’s Czeslaw? Thanks for stopping in Graham.
I'm really enjoying every new episode I view. Czeslaw Slania, a man with great vision and power. Wow. Imagine being able to hide your friends and family's names and depictions in stamps issued across the world. I take it he was so good that he could surreptitiously include whimsical little items and totally get away with it. I don't know.. So nice to know the story behind the stamps. I have a whole new appreciation for Polish stamps now. Thanks, Ted... keep 'em rolling. This like Philately 1A for me :-) Now I'll have to follow up some more with the links and so forth you've so kindly provided. Many thanks, again!
Yes, Slania was quite a personality. Thanks, again, Mitch for the kind words.
New follower here. Thank you for the entertaining and informative video.
Thank you for watching, Jeff. Glad you’re here.
Such beautiful engravings, fascinating video!
Glad you enjoyed it, Karen.
Hi Ted, I have just bought some of Slania stamps. This Monaco Europa CEPT 1985 is a 10 stamp sheet, having 5 of each stamps. You must have known that? Zvezdan from Serbia
Been looking forward to a new episode and you do not disappoint, sir!! Thank you very much. I am a huge fan of Decaris, but I will have to start hunting for some of this fellow's work in the ye olde stamp markets. : )
Decaris is a new name to me. I will read up on him. Thanks for watching.
Thank you so much Ted. I have been introduced to you recently but I have become an avid fan! Pl do keeo giving us these awesome videos! God Bless!
Thank you very much shamzie. (With apologies for my rather late reply.)
1921-2021 Czeslaw Slania Anniversary. GOD BLESS.
A true legend.
What an informative video! I just can't help wonder - How do you know so much!?!?
Looking forward to more.
Thanks again, Phil. I bone up on the subjects before I start filming.
Great video of a great engraver. My favourite designer is Jean Van Noten.
I am not familiar with his work. I will study up on him. Thanks.
Another great episode...!!!
Thanks a lot, GX.
Wow i got to learn some new facts about Slania, fantastic video!! he also made a series of boxers just for fun, Sweden is not known for making big and colourful stamps, but they went all in on number 1000, the lions expression is amazing.
Those boxer labels are great. I haven’t come across any yet.
I always get weird looks when asked who my favorite artist is 😂. I had forgotten that he engraved names in. Also didn't know what he did with the skiing stamp. Thanks for another great video! 👍
When talking about Slania as your favorite artist, you don't have to limit it to his stamp work either. He did much non-philatelic engraving also. Even so, anyone who thinks you're weird because your favorite artist is a stamp designer, is just putting their own ignorance on display.
@@tedtalksstamps Yes, I am familiar with his banknotes too. 👍
Thanks for this video!! Really enjoyed it and although late to the table it inspired me to perhaps start a very own Slania collection. Amazing man indeed!!
You’re welcome. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Another engraver you would probably like also is Martin Mörck. He recently celebrated his 1,000th stamp and is still going.
@@tedtalksstamps Thanks for the tip - Mr Mörck has some really nice one too! It just opens up a whole new spectrum to the hobby I haven't thought about before!! Funny enough, I was going through a pile of Polish stamps recently and thought I recognised Slania's name from somewhere..... :) It all makes sense now and I already gone through my Swedish collection to separate out Cheslaw's production as a offset, so thanks again for your brilliant content!!!
@carl-christianmalm863 you’re welcome, and thanks for watching.
As usual, you do such a professional job with this.please keep it going Ted...and thank you, Rene Bravo
Thank you, Rene. I appreciate the words.
Awesome video! Full of information!
Thank you very much, Clailton.
Great show. I have some of his graving on stamps.
Thank you for this talk! I have many of his stamps and hadn't noticed the single engraver. I see a collection of Slania stamps in my near future. ✌
Excellent! 😄
That is like finding the NINAs in the Hersfield stamps. Wow, good topic
Thanks, John.
Awesome :-)
Thanks again, Nisarg.
Hmm was "thinking again" as to why you chose him for this episode and It's so so simple. You must be related. Is that your papi? Great vid btw
User 4527 So you noticed the resemblance, huh?
No relation whatsoever. I found him on RUclips/
ted because you i am know collecting Slania thank you dave cronin
You're welcome, Dave. And thanks for watching.
Would like to hear about his other stamps too...
I am still working on obtaining some of his non-Scandinavian stamps to feature in another video. I hope to be able to show them soon.
I collect his works..if you need any particular scan and if I have it, would be really happy to share with you.
@@ashwinidesai Thank you. I appreciate the offer.
I have some stamps that the perforated was actually on the design of the stamps. (Well in the center part) Their the Madonna and Child from 2019. Are those stamps valuable or not?
I still like your comment. 😁
Hi , yesterday I bought 1929 postcard from my next-door up and found 3 G. Franklin stamps how could I know of they worth money ? Thank you !
The Facebook group Philately 101 is a great source for information for new collectors. You could post images of what you have there and get some feedback.
If you're gonna own one swedish stamp, it must be Slania number 1000. Then you also get the largest engraved stamp in the world.
Yes, that is a great one.
@@tedtalksstamps Hi Ted! I saw the boxers for sale the other week, but i think they were reprints, still they looked great. I'm looking for his non stamp engravings, they are a bit scarce.
Time for a follow up?
Yes that has been on my mind. I’ll get on it.
