    Happy 1 year anniversary Ted! If you use Hawid mounts to any degree or think that the three pens you ordered may not be enough, you’d better stock up while you still can. Hawid will be closing its doors permanently on June 30.

      I’ll reconsider it if I can find a rigid vertical post with a knob to adjust the height/magnification. Otherwise, that flexible goose-neck just doesn’t work for me.

    I often lack the exact Showgard mount I need so I just guillotine a larger one and it holds the stamp perfectly at the lower side. Have not had a stamp fall or move yet.

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  Год назад

      That’s a major reason I switched to converting Showgard mounts into Hawid type mounts. I now have only 2 sizes of Showgard mounts to keep on hand, and, like you, have not had any issues with stamps coming out.

      I'd love to learn more about how you mount stamps. Even just a tutorial on measuring and cutting mounts would be helpful. There are so many choices and cost ranges. I asked one collector and he told me he buys used albums with no stamps so he can harvest the used mounts.

    Enjoyed the episode. I have been using glue stick. A thin layer is what I apply. Looks like your method with the hawid pen looks easier and much less messy. I will get one. Also on the light, just get yourself a huge style rubber band to go around it and that will prevent it from bouncing back.

    Happy anniversary Ted! you always have such great tips in your videos, I'd never heard of the Hawid glue pen, what a useful thing! a quick question, do you have a collection of really, really big stamps?

    • @tedtalksstamps
      @tedtalksstamps  3 года назад +1

      Thank you, Karen. And I apologize for the late reply. I had typed out an answer several days ago, but, as I was on my phone, I must have exited the page before I had properly posted the reply
      To answer your question. I do have some oversized items, like souvenir sheets, large blocks, and full panes. If your question is about how I go about storing or mounting them, I use storage sleeves designed and marketed for paperbacks and comic books, made from polypropylene and mylar. For storage, I also use comic book backing boards cut to size. They are acid-free and totally safe for contact with stamps.
      For album mounting, I trim a sleeve to fit the stamp, and then use a sheet of acid-free album paper (black paper if you want a border around the stamp) and then affix it to the album page with a spritz of acid-free spray adhesive.
      I plan on covering all of this in an episode soon. Hope this helps.

    • @byronsbrain
      @byronsbrain 3 года назад +1

      @@tedtalksstamps Thanks Ted, storage can be a difficult issue with certain items, I can't wait to see your video on that. I'm using stock books but I'd like to branch out and display some of my medical and sherlock collection in a pretty format :)

    Ted, you can buy a stand as you described for the microscope on Amazon.

  • @mohammedshakoor4718
    @mohammedshakoor4718 Год назад +1

    Yeah that microscope was a failure. Try googling the Intel play QX3 microscopes - in bio labs the kids had standard school microscopes but we had this one usb one to hook up to the laptop and then feed it to the data projector. It's more robust with one column and a base . A royal blue coloured thing. You can rest your stamp on the stage and adjust it. They have them on eBay. I think some are still selling brand new from major suppliers but I've seen some around the £20 mark give or take. Having said that, SG are selling their own branded one but I don't know good it is. It looks about the dimensions of an SLR camera detachable lens - so one tube assembly. It doesn't have a stage of anything and it looks like you just put the stamp on the table etc and then put the whole barrel over the stamp. But just looking at it, while the stamp's underneath, you can't see it.. As in the diameter of the whole barrel is a lot bigger than the stamp. In a nutshell if you've used the standard science microscope in school, the Intel play is a digital version of that but more ergonomic I guess..
    Those mounts and solvent are an interesting approach. In my teens when I was delusional about the value of my stamps I got a pack of howid/hawid (?) Mounts and printed out my out pages for an album on marble effect paper. However I found the mounts created a depression In the page, so it put me off.. Maybe the paper I used wasn't thick enough. Would be interesting to know what thickness of paper I should use.
    I actually have those stockbooks but I don't think they're lighthouse. They have some compass logo on the front. Otherwise exactly the same. I get them from a supplier in Edinburgh via ebay...🤔.. Or is it Glasgow? I think they work out about the same price as hobby lobby after your 40% discount..Yours maybe cheaper a bit..
    I need to get some stocksheets for my FDCs now so will be on the look out for some. I need to get a proper binder for them as well.
    Anyway,thanks for that - prompted me to think about restocking👍😉
