Something to Do With the Wall
A film by Ross McElwee & Marilyn Levine
In 1986, Ross McElwee (Sherman's March) and Marilyn Levine were making a film about the 25th anniversary of the Berlin Wall, when the imposing structure was still very much intact as the worlds most visible symbol of hardline Communism and Cold War lore. They thought they were making a documentary on the community of tourists, soldiers, and West Berliners who lived in the seemingly eternal presence of the graffiti emblazoned eyesore.
But in 1989, as the original film neared completion, the Wall came down, and McElwee and Levine returned to Berlin, this time to capture the radically different atmosphere of the reunified city.

Being at GDR in 1987 i remember one of this events.. Between People and the Police... 2 years later we all Know how it ended..
I hope the individual who used his blood to write on the ground was taken to a psychiatric hospital for observation and evaluation.
I'd imagine living in East Berlin was enough to drive anyone to do that...

Gut, dass ULrike Guleikoff aus Nichts einen Fakt erklärt! Aber dazu kam es ja nicht, da Ostdeutsche ja nicht so dicht an ihre Grenze durften, ohne durch die antifaschistischen Pazifisten direkt abgeknallt, oder Selbstschussanlagen umgenietet zu werden.

Im Moment habe ich Kontakt zu einem "Kollegen" von Herrn Gysi, den ich angeschrieben hatte, zwecks erfüllung Art 146, die Antworten sind ganz lustig, auf der einen Seite schön nach BRD muster auf der anderen blitzen da doch so ein paar Whrheiten durch..... :-)

Ich hab das mal in eiem Video gesehen, weiß aber nicht mehr von wem das war.
So weit ich weiß beschäftigen sich ca 500 000 damit intensiv und wie gesagt wissen ca 4 mio wissen es durch Infos, ob die nun davon alle überzeugt sind weiß ich auch nicht. Ist ja oft so das man da gleich richtung Rechts geschoben wird. Aber Aufklärung ist nunmal die beste Möglichkeit die Deutschen wach zu rütteln.

I still remember that there was an Eurythmics concert in West Berlin, where Annie Lennox denounced the wall, and stirred up every kid in East Berlin to rise up against the Vopos. That kicked ass!

Diese pollierten Reiterstiefel.... hübsch sehen sie ja aus aber es wirkt schon sehr befremdlich, das die Reiterhosen und Stiefel zur Uniform gehörten obwohl die Kavallerie schon längst abgeschafft war. Die Reiterstiefel sollten wohl gefährlich und autoritär wirken aber Ende der 80er sah man ihnen einfach an, das sie Relikte aus einer anderen, längst vergangenen Zeit waren, als es noch Husaren und Dragoner gab.. Eigentlich waren sie das schon in den 40ern aber da muß man zur Ehrenretung der damaligen Uniformierten sagen, das diese Reiterstiefel auch nur von berittenen Vorrausabteilungen, den Offizieren und den versnobten braunen Parteibonzen getragen wurden und Rest schon (damals) moderne Knobelbecher und Springerstiefel (bei den Fallschrimspringern) trug.

It might seem a strange use of the word “Democratic” to we Westerners, but as it was explained to me on one of my visits to the DDR, what they meant by it they believed to be a correct term of the word. Their logic was as follows; As per the Potsdam Agreement East Germany had truly free elections in 1949. The SPD and KPD achieved a combined vote of over 50% and initially formed a coalition. Opposition minority parties accepted this result and took up their seats in the Volkskammer. The SPD and KPD merged into one party, the SED (Socialist Unity Party of Germany). The minority parties then voted to accept the results as a permanent inter party balance of representation. Thereafter at subsequent General Elections competition for seats was within, rather than between parties. This created a “Democratic Compromise” between a Dictatorship of the Working Class through the permanent rule of the majority SED and the feature of a continuing multi-party system in parliament. They argued that Western “bourgeois” democracy, whilst looking free and fair, is actually bogus because powerful money groups control the sources of information and discussion which effectively freeze out by negativity or ridicule choices that the people would actually prefer if they had neutral informative information. Big money never allows this to happen, and elections are effectively rigged by big competing capitalist financed money groups bamboozling electors with psychologically designed advertising, subliminal messages, and dog whistling. The DDR saw western democratic elections as psychological warfare against the people by capitalist interests.
