I take the online lessons, and Yushin-sensei and the senpai are all fantastic. Yushin-sensei will demonstrate a kata, then break it down so you understand the movements, and then watch the students as the senpai demonstrate slowly. Yushin-sensei is a very genuine and warm person, and Shogo is an excellent translator. You wint be disappointed!

I love the online lessons! Yushin Sensei is a fantastic Sensei! Osayo and Otake Senpai are very skilled! Shogo translates all the lessons perfectly and his insights are fantastic! The online lessons are the best part of my week. Even though it is virtual you can feel that everyone is welcoming and they really care about your progress! If you have ever wanted to try katana martial arts, I couldn't recommend it to any higher!

Sorry to be off topic, but I just watched your video on your health condition and I noticed you can open your hands fully, so I'm glad to at least see that change to have happened!

Awesome video as always Shogo. Yushin Sensei is a very down to earth person who has plenty of patience for anyone who wants to learn from years of experience and knowledge.

I appreciate your comments about training with a Sensei that approaches the budo chosen in a way that aligns with one’s purpose and personality. In college, I went to an Iai dojo to watch and see the class first, and was quite glad I did, as the instructor was very focused on practical application…which, to be frank is not really the point in my opinion of modern Iaido. Unfortunately, living in the states there weren’t other options nearby, so I didn’t pursue it. This is an interesting venture though!

(Sorry for the long comment my friend ☺️) Shogo San. I have been watching your videos for quite sometime and have have been trying to find a Martial Art to train. I came across your videos for Ichiden Ryu with Sensei Seki.

Do the lessons follow a different progression path depending if you subscribe to 1 lesson or 2 lessons per week? Or it's necessary to review a previous lesson if you take just 1 per week?

I would love to learn! One quick question, would I have to buy a katana with the website provided?

Question Shogo, can you make a video of the different cities/regions of Japan and the differences? I’d love to visit but trying to plan a week or two vacation is overwhelming. What does each region have to offer? Do you have suggestions or must visit areas? I read so much on Kyoto, Tokyo, and Osaka, or up near Sapporo, but not sure where to begin. Your help would be awesome.

One point that struck a chord with me (as a Budo instructor) is the beginning student appreciating the character & personality of the instructor; it is my rule-of-thumb that prospective students come to the dojo and speak to me and my students, as well as watch a class in progress to establish an initial comfortable relationship (and set expectations) - I would rather cull those who are not comfortable initially than spend the time giving a few beginners' lessons only to have him or her drop out after a short period of time. Dojo time is valuable (and limited) being spread out over all students; it's not a commodity to waste. As much as I would enjoy these on-line lessons, my current schedule and responsibilities don't allow my participation.
