- The Hard Gore DVD series, a collection of cult and classic horror films and also some bizarre oddities. In this twenty fourth episode we look at Deep River Savages or Man From Deep River directed by Umberto Lenzi. The film that kicked off the cannibal exploitation boom of the 70's, does this film hold up or is it a boring romance with no cannibals?

Well said about the animal cruelty. I got quite a nasty shock when I saw this film: it was available to watch free on Amazon Prime during 2021 and, because I'm in the UK, I assumed I'd be watching a cut version. Nope, not the case. It was SUCH a miserable experience to sit through with all that needless slaughter.
I'm surprised there was a fully uncut version available on Prime saying we've never got an official physical uncut version in the UK! Must've been an oversight from the uploaders. The only cuts I don't mind is when it's pointless animal cruelty.
I remember picking this up cheap when I was about 17. I didn't even finish it if I remember rightly. It bored the shit out of me tbh. Having seen the uncut versions of cannibal holocaust and ferox, mountain of the cannibal god prior to watching this it was a massive let down to say the least.
I think this is a terrific film with elements of A Man Called Horse. Very well done and entertaining.
I imported the Raro uncut release which as usual betters the Hardgore release. Those are terrible 👍
Nice, it didn't really work for me but at least you got something from it. Maybe a better quality print would enhance the experience for me.
@@oldmanchimesreviews 88 Films also released a good print as well. Just slightly cut for animal cruelty 👍
Apparently if the animal cruelty was not done specially for the film but was going to happen anyway (sort of documentary style) then its allowed. I dont like it at all, if its faked violence and nothing was harmed, then allow it
Yeah I read something along these lines before. Either way it never adds anything to the film and feels gratuitous. Fake gore is always fine!
