theres a relearn you can do on these power windows and sun roofs Sunroof Motor/Actuator Synchronization Procedure Synchronization will be necessary any time the sunroof motor is removed from the unit. The sunroof module is synchronized when the motor controller learns the full vent position. To synchronize the sunroof: (Please read directions completely prior to beginning the procedure) 1. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF. 2. DO NOT OPERATE THE SUNROOF GLASS IN THE OPEN/TILT DOWN DIRECTION UNTIL THE INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE IS COMPLETE OR SERIOUS DAMAGE MAY OCCUR. 3. Using the close/tilt up portion of the sunroof switch, operate the sunroof glass until it reaches the full vent position. Even if the sunroof stops early, proceed to step 4. 4. Continue to hold the close/tilt up portion of the sunroof switch for at least 30 seconds or until you hear a slight click from the front of the sunroof mechanism. 5. The slight clicking noise at the front of the sunroof confirms the initialization is complete. 6. Verify that the system operates normally. Once the synchronization is complete, the position of the motor and mechanism is stored in the memory of the sunroof motor controller. The motor controller retains this memory even if power is disconnected to the motor. If reinitialization does not correct the concern, perform the following steps: 1. Reference SI and use the R&R procedure for removing the complete sunroof module assembly. 2. Remove the motor from the unit and force the Pin Guides forward until the hard stop is reached. If water channel guides are out of track, there may resistance to moving pin guides forward. If water channel guides are out of track you will need to feed them through the rear of track. Make sure both sides are in complete forward position. In the event track mechanism components are damaged, use Service Kit P/N 88979948. 3. Once the track mechanism is repaired, reattach the motor and follow the reinitialization procedure listed above. 4. Check for proper operation.
God bless you chris...my sunroof wouldnt close all the way i literally held the vent button for 30 seconds and it all perfect it closed and vents .thanks man for taking the time to write your comment. It helped me out greatly..
Thank god I found this comment, been looking for 2 days... accidently opened it when it was frozen, then it was stuck in vent position. Cheers guys, glad i didn't spend any money!
Marcus - did you replace the plastic arms / railing on both sides of the sunroof that enable the deflector screen to drop? I've got to replace mine and they were taken out by someone else before I had a chance to see how they were assembled in the track? Any photos or advice on replacing those that you can share? Thanks!
@richmartin505 I did not. The kit I bought did not include them arms unfortunately (mine are broke also) I know for sure they are riveted in from factory both to the aluminum rails and the deflector. My plan was to just go junk yard shopping for these.
Good video, TY Mine wont open at all. first time I changed the switch and worked, now I bypassed the switch and used the harness and there is no power, I checked with prob light and also the 25 A fuse is good.
My problem is kinda different it closes all the way and goes up but when you want it to open all the way it dosent gose all the way down and gets stuck I have no idea why
Testing mine on my 2002, from closed position only the forward button worked the backward button has no response so now i cant get it back to closed position, motor or seitch?
So my sunroof doesn't shut properly. It stops water from dripping into the cab but I'm worried about where else water may be going. It closes but doesn't lift up into place to close it all off Do you know if there is any drainage for rain water to escape?
Yes, there is a drain line that runs from the front of the sun roof thru the A pillar down to the inside of the fender. You would know pretty quickly if it is not draining correctly.
Loosen the 4 glass retaining screws enough to push up and hold in place while retightening them. There is enough room to reach them, but just enough room. They're difficult to see but with a flashlight, good sunlight, you can see them clearly. Like he said, they're a "T-25" (or T-20... Can't remember exactly). Loosen them enough to feel the glass move freely up and down. The screws are in slotted openings for Fine Adjustment of the glass. This should allow you to reach maximum height for a good seal, if the timing of your Trolleys isn't off.
So my problem is a little different my Switch for the sunroof broke I replaced it with a brand new one do I need to follow the same steps because I removed the switch because I keep popping fuses every time I go to use the sunroof it’s stuck in the vent position
Hey can you help me I have a 2001 it will close until about an inch away from being closed so I don't get water but the water it sitting is where it need to be if you can help I'd appreciate it my mechanics are flabbergasted
If you read thru the comments a guy by the name of Crawler posted something about a "relearning" process. Maybe try that first? If that don't work it might be something mechanical, hard to say without actually seeing it.
I have been trying to run the part number back down, but no luck. For this kit all I did was go to my local GM dealer and talked to the guys in the parts department. They were able to get the entire kit for me for less then $100 witch was great because at the time the next cheapest I found was almost $300 on Ebay.
It should be, *don't quote me on that* when I was looking up parts for this it looked like all FULL SIZED GM vehicles used the same exact sunroof from 03-06 Cadillac, GMC, Chevy, Silverado, Escalade, Tahoe, ETC...
Thank you for taking the time to do this video and educating those of us with this problem. You saved us a lot of work, time and scraped knuckles.
Glad it helped

Or rip it apart and fixing it works too. Where were you with this information a year ago when it broke ???
Just tried it and the window works now, it fully closed, your a Genius!!!!!!!!

@@Burciaga29 sorry buddy just watched this video when I commented this lol

How did you take out the actual sun roof cover
In order to take out the cover, you must take out the glass an you can then take it out from the top
How do you get it in the slant position
Testing mine on my 2002, from closed position only the forward button worked the backward button has no response so now i cant get it back to closed position, motor or seitch?
My guess would be switch. If it was the motor it just simply wouldn't work.
How do you get the plastic pieces out and back in?
What size torque bit did you use on the sun visors?
I believe it was a T15 or T20.
Good enough 👍👍 you save me some struggle in taking of the liner thanks ✌️👍🤟#1🇺🇸👍
Wow I was expecting a regular looking tahoe is just like 👍 mine custom front-end cat eye looks amazing is yours LT like mine ? Is 4x4
Yes, LT 4x4, lifted. 35s few minor bolt on performance upgrades.
I'm trying to do the same thing and then I hear you removed the glass but didn't say how you did thatttt
There are 4 bolts on that attached to the track, 2 on each side

Also, what did you have to do to get the cat eye front end on there, looks badasss
Pretty much just bolt on all the cat eye parts. The biggest thing I had to fab was the bumper bracket.
To anyone like me that try tro close stuck sunroof - hold close button for 10 seconds and it resets the shitty thing 🎉
I'm not understanding how you fixed it without dropping headliner? It looks like you dropped the headliner??
I said WITHOUT REMOVING not without dropping sir.
I have a 2006 denali my sunroof wont close all the way..the back of it sags when its all the way closed
I'm just a DIY guy not a professional. Hard telling man.
Have same problem.
Hey I got a question
What is your question. Sorry for the late reply. Did you get it figured out?
How did you get the broken parts out?
Thanks for the video,greatly appreciated!
Glad it was helpful!
By any chance do you have the part numbers for the parts you replaced?
I have been trying to run the part number back down, but no luck. For this kit all I did was go to my local GM dealer and talked to the guys in the parts department. I have 04 Escalade sunroof stuck open is it same set up as yours

Thanks !
Thanks
Thank you
Removed motor cover, removed gears, sun roof moves back & front, does not want to move up though …. :/
Hold the camera still. OMG
Thank you!
Part numbers#
So basically you had to calibrate the track and motor.
Correct. But if you read thru the comments there is a way to do it with the switch, I wish I would have know that at the time.
Word salad……… bunch of mumble jumble
Lol. Umm. Yeah. Umm... sorry. Uh. Not a..um... fucking professional speaker/RUclipsr. Uh. Yeah. 👌
