    A lot of people haven't been paying attention to The Boys AT ALL. The Boys season 4 just had its season finale and a lot of people are asking questions to things that have been answered, and complaining about the wrong things.
    Currently The Boys Season 4 is at a 53% on Rotten Tomatoes and so the main question of this video is trying to understand, how is the boys at such a low score on rotten tomatoes?

    It's time to have a serious conversation about media literacy and review bombing. You can not like something but at least be honest about why.

    Not the strongest season, but even the worst The Boys episodes are better than 90% other shows out there

      100% agreed! That’s one of the reasons why the score baffled us! You took the words right out of us

      I think a lot of people are just looking to be angry. In context the show is pretty good even though admittedly it might not have been the strongest season

    The worst thing for me is Butcher, he was the guy who fucked up everything he touches, but through the season he tries to be good, just to turn into the guy who fucked up everything he touches again, it’s literally waste of time. Good thing in this season: A train and Hughie. They’re only characters that developed very good through the season

      A Train had a great arc this season for sure. The writers might hate Hughie lol... they put him through so much this season

    I think this season suffered (in my eyes) due to the extreme amount of shock value they were going for, and also not properly addressing those moments, i.e hughie getting SA’d all szn, and also because alot of the szn being setup to the final szn. But besides all that it moved the story forward in a good way. The character dynamics were good as always, despite frenchie & kimiko having boring side plots (imo). But newcomers firecracker and sage were interesting, and im looking forward to see how things wrap up in the next season.

    • @kaylex3
      @kaylex3  Месяц назад

      NGL... This is spot on! They did Hughie dirty this entire season. Frenchie and Kimikos side plots felt like filler. It was almost completely unnecessary but at the same time they also help feed into the story so its a bit annoying because that means the main issue is that it just wasnt done well.
      Im hoping they dont drop the ball with this next season but making it the final is also a GREAT call.

    You guys mentioned how politics was in The Boondocks. Absolutely, but it was one of the few shows during that time to be heavily influenced with politics, internalized racism, and spiritualism, all at once.
    What people are tired of is "identity politics." And this shit is in the majority of american tv shows and films. That's what people are annoyed at. And the identity politics isn't even written in a way that is entertaining. It just feels like a lecture and is over-played at this point. I'm a huge fan of The Boys, but s4 is still one of the worst.

    • @kaylex3
      @kaylex3  24 дня назад

      The thing about the boondocks too is that they joked about the politics of the time, that's what makes satire so effective. The Boondooks also go into identity politics, even though it is something that's more talked about today. Example,
      The episode where a the kid Dewey Jenkins introduces himself to Huey and says, "Whats up, the struggle is up my brother".
      Politics aside, not liking the boys for story beat issues, acting, etc makes a lot of sense because are is subjective. What I will say is, if The Boondocks were to release in the 2020s people would hate it more than THE BOYS.
      This season of THE BOYS is not perfect Television but it is definitely entertaining if you're able to appreciate its absurdity.

    I liked the last season, and it definitely deserves a higher rating. But I understand people's point, it was subpar, and the "political satire" was too blatant, too "in your face", and especially less balanced. There was more criticism to "both sides" of the ideological spectrum, now it's all Trump, Trump, Trump... Now it's too focused on current affairs, it's less timeless. And it's quite hypocritical to criticize big corporations as they do considering who produces the show.

    • @kaylex3
      @kaylex3  Месяц назад +1

      You're spot on when it comes to the irony of this show being produced by Amazon.
      But here is the thing about the political argument. Its been know in the past they they've always drawn from real life events. That's part of what makes up a satire, read or watch any satire it has to do with a touchy topics of the times.
      But even moving away from that the Trump argument is a bit lazy. Reason why is because these characters can be stand ins for any celebrities, influencers, or public figures. The idea of what happens when you can do no wrong.
      if you think of a book like Dune, Herbert himself said he wanted to write something that spoke about the dangers of a charismatic leader. That is timeless. These character are still timeless.

    Season 4 is quite literally one of the biggest wastes of time I've ever seen. Plot is awful, pacing is awful, character motivations turned awful, character decisions were retarded, all just to pad out time.
    It really was THAT bad

    • @kaylex3
      @kaylex3  Месяц назад

      I have to disagree because even if the pacing might have been a bit off the payoff for the overall season was really good. I think you have an argument there if you talk about the amount of side stories that were introduced and then never address. That was one of the biggest weaknesses of this season.

    There were some good moments in the The Boys season 4 when it focused on characters like Hughie, Butcher, MM, and Homelander (for his acting). I didn't care for Sister Sage, Starlight (she's like Amber from Invincible, insufferable), Frenchie's romance (it just wasn't interesting) and others. I found them pretty annoying this season. It's a mixed pot of hit and misses.
    And to me, the parody and satire has gotten stale. I just don't think I'm into it anymore because its humor requires me to be aware of outside stuff that's rather frustrating. I don't care what side it is (although The Boys has some bias), I'm not into red and blue politics. The humor has gotten worse though, it's just not as fresh. Too one note. I watched the whole season though, and I do intend on seeing it through for Butcher and Homelander.

    • @kaylex3
      @kaylex3  Месяц назад

      I think not being into it because it requires you to know whats going on is a valid and interesting point. While I think its still enjoyable I think that serves more like easter eggs. I can agree on Frenchies romance because they just start it, end it, have him feel guilty a bit, then thats it. But I think in the end it enhances those final moments of Frenchie and Kimiko and the idea of forgiving yourself.
      But yeah Hughie, Butcher, MM, and Homelander, and I'll include A train had some of the best written scenes this season

    • @klulu-kun
      @klulu-kun Месяц назад

      @@kaylex3 Oh yeah, A-Train redemption was really enjoyable. His talks with MM and Hughie were great as well.
      I was hoping for Frenchie and Kimiko the entire time, so his fling with the other guy felt like a forgettable stepping stone. The guilt was meaningful, but they could have done that without romance, so what was the point? Just to explore his bi side? I don't mind, I'm queer myself, but I didn't feel anything there. They just expected me to care when I saw them kiss and bang.
      Everything afterwards was profound imo, although the execution could've been cleaner. I like the idea of questioning whether someone who's done heinous acts can be forgiven or forgive themselves (Darth Vader, Omni-Man).

    My whole problem with this season is that it wasn't too political, it just attacked one side. In the past they have always taken the left and the right to the absolute extreme and made a joke out of it. It seems like when it came to the right wing stuff, none of it was a joke and just jabs at everyday normal people who vote differently then the creators. Every conservative person this season is a horrible horrible person. Even normal people, they paint them to all look like dumb morons who would believe all the nonsense firecracker and homelander spit.
    Even the episode when they go to the conspiracy convention, the RNC is nothing like that. Yea, some pretty shitty people get to speak and go to these events but many of them are just people who go hoping to meet their favorite content creator or support brands that are open about their values. There also just several random interactions with racism that just don't need to be there. As much as many people wont like to admit it, 95% of people are not racist and even less of that are not going to go out of their way to be a dick. Especially in New York where the show takes place.
    I'm as libertarian as they come and I really could care less about what either side is doing but you cant break down an entire ideology showcasing only the worst and most extreme parts and then throw a "I take responsibility" joke to the other side and call it balance.

    • @kaylex3
      @kaylex3  Месяц назад

      The entire show including this season makes fun of Corporations and the different ways that they virtue signal. Everyone is extreme and that's what tends to make stories entertaining. "I take responsibility" isn't the only joke.
      Of course not everyone is rac st, in the real world we know that (that would be an extreme ideology). But even Vaught in the show doesn't realize or care that they play into stereotypes.
      When I watch the show I DONT see it as a knock on conservatives and thinking all of them are dumb. I have the context from other seasons showing how vile every single character is. Butcher "The Protagonist" is not a saint. This season even tries to show why Starlight isn't one either.
      With the episode where they go to the conspiracy convention I didn't think it had anything to do with the RNC... just extremists and its fun to play with those dynamics, not that anyone should be offended because they're just jokes.
      Again with the context of the entire show, everyone gets made fun of or is the subject of a dark joke.

      Not to mention how lazy it is too. By using buzz words you don’t have to actually think about why you didn’t like something. It stops you from thinking critically and forming a real thought.

      @kaylex3 True. Me personally, I hate the character of Sage, and what the show does to black characters in general, we're basically jokes in that show, but concept of the comics themselves is pretty cool.
