Finally, you are getting back to your true form. You were tailspinning for a bit there but seems to have found your old footing. Good video, keep up the great work and thank you for the massive amount of content you generate on Lions. Stay the course.
James Houston will turn up This year
Welcome back bro. This is the Syndicate we love to see. Great podcast. I believe we're not done with edge yet. Getting this done will be the icing on the cake. Stay tuned
You still ignore the FACT that the Lions were ranked #2 in QB pressures (a sack, hit or hurry) this past season. 2023 Team Defensive Pressures Rankings: 1) Jets - 141 2) Lions - 135 3) 49ers - 132 4) Eagles - 131 5) Cowboys - 129. It's not just about sacks bro.
Just like Bereman said in his article you read, sacks are random. Pressure rate generated is a better indicator of the havoc a player or a defense is causing than sacks. It's a FACT that we are really good at generating pressure. There are many ways to generate a pass rush than just from from the DE's or the front four. Our success in generating TEAM pressures is testimony to our ability to SCHEME a pass rush.
Coaching matters. You can have great talent and poor game planning that doesn't maximize that talent. Certainly management feels good about their front four. Management chose instead to shore up the pass defense in the draft.
Could it be that you're more invested in being right than you are about feeling good about the success we are having at pressuring the QB?
Yanike is a bridge starter. His good enough to start until a team drafts a long term guy. But 34 pressies is nothing to sneeze at. How was he against the run. Because he has to be good there also. If not he a situational pass rusher and IMHO we don't have room for another. Especially at 4-5 million when we already have 2 guys on rookie deals. Houston and the dt out of lsu. The real question is will there be any post june 1st cuts. Or training camp final roster cuts.
The live stream after the 2nd cb Enis speaks to that very thing. Just saying
QB Pressures is an interesting stat because with the right coaching adjustments can be made to turn those pressures into sack through film study. Yet at the same time it is a very deceptive stat.
By definition to get credit for a pressure you must cause the QB to move off his drop back to avoid contact, make contact or force an intentional grounding penalty.
That is all well and good until you realize Purdy running for first downs in the NFC Championship or many of the times Fields gashed the Lions for yards also were registered as QB pressures.
Honestly I'm kind of ok with the Edge by committee which features newly signed Davenport, Houston and Wingo.
If the Lions are going to explore a signing after the draft I'd still kick the tires on Safety. Guys like Diggs and Simmons give that position solid rotation and let Kerby, Iffy and them slug it out and add Branch situational in that group too based on secondary packages they can deploy now
Sacks are undeniably important in stopping the play. However, generating consistent quarterback pressure throughout the game has a more significant impact on disrupting the offense and increasing the chances of defensive success. Pressures often lead to hurried or inaccurate throws, resulting in incomplete passes which can stall offensive drives. Even if a pressure doesn't result in a sack, it can force the quarterback into a hurried throw, potentially leading to an interception or a less effective play. Pressure creates opportunities for other players on the defense. While a sack directly results in a loss of yards, quarterback pressure can create opportunities for other defenders to make drive-ending plays, like interceptions or forced fumbles. Sustained pressure throughout the game can wear down the quarterback both physically and mentally, leading to poorer decision-making later in the game. Sacks, while valuable, are not the only measure of a successful pass rush.
I wanted #1 last season, he could help
None of the above… It’s over with as far as impactful acquisitions, might as well just roll with what we have
I'm not sure how much cap we have to work with off hand but Yannik would be my preference as well at the moment
Living in Minnesota and I kinda remember how yanick’s time was.. I wouldn’t want him on my lions team.. I’d rather have ogbah.. but price and fit would be paramount .
They already added the guys they like, davenport and betts along with some udfas. Theres nobody out there right now thats better than what we already have
What do you think if we traded a high round draft pick next year to get Trey Henderson from Cincinnati? Or even multiple picks...
Yes
No we want maxx
@@SlimeGrimnot happening
@@SlimeGrimraiders are never moving Maxx unless they become absolute trash
You almost have to consider the defensive line that an edge rusher is working with. If the defense is weak, then the edge rusher will have less sacks and less pressures.
Looks like we are going to stick with James Houston and Davenport. Wingo has a different body built. Wingo could be a edge.
Clowney is on the Panthers now. Think he spent time in Tennessee too
And Cleveland
Bruh you know BH gonna pull up on Dollar General post June 1st 😂
That list goes to show you that good edges are a luxury. We have a top 5 edge in the league already. Its really not that important. The revamped secondary and DJ reeder will help big time
Go to a 3/4 let Hutch roam around the line
What happened to CFL Cb Quantez Stiggers???
Ngokue had 4 sacks last year. It's at the beginning of his profile.
Malik McDowell to try out with Lions?
I don't think anything in FA is worth going after, at this point. I think we stick with what we've got. Maybe make a move at the trade deadline, if needed.
There's also the possibility of Wingo coming in a few pounds lighter and being that guy!! It wouldn't surprise me.
Ngakoue if we can get him. If not, I think Ogbah could contribute
I’d even take Another Dinosaur in Calias Campbell at this point
Golden was great in college, but Yannick would compliment the line while Aiden is off the field.
Is Duwane Smoot still available?
No Bills signed him Yesterday
Between the two definitely Nquakue
In 2022 and 2023 the Jets drafted edges, so Lawson's playing time was limited. Lawson had some injury issues in the past, if he is cheap enough I am all for a prove it deal.
Ngakoue or Lawson. Ogbah isnt really a scheme fit
They are gonna move lsu dt we drafted to edge
I am going to stick with Wingo.
I am one of the few who have been in total agreement about feeling like Edge/Pass Rush has been ignored or not been a priority. I definitely think something should be done.
While I understand some people will say I doubt Brad or the plan to that I am done arguing that criticism or questioning is not hate or being disloyal. So my new approach is this...
Look at every position group on this roster, look at the projected starters, look at the primary back up then look at the depth players. Now imagine the best player goes down for any significant amount of time outside of QB there is no bigger hole in our roster if something happened to Aidan. Wr, Ol , DT, DB, LB, RB or TE while it might not be pretty there is enough talent to sustain productivity and keep the team winning.
Right now that can't be said of Edge. We have seen the struggle to generate pressure with Aidan being a complete beast and demanding double and triple team attention . Sure Houston might return to end of his rookie season form but if he is DE1 there is no threat at DE2. We don't have to break the bank but we can't simply hope everyone stays healthy because outside of Houston for half a season and Aidan being a monster both seasons peak effort from everyone else does add up to a dynamic & consistent pass rush.
No the biggest hole is swing tackle. The team runs thru the offensive line. Sewell is hands down the best player on this team, period. Arguably the best at his position in the league. And our future lt
For me... Either Ogbah or Ngakoue!! You want my FINAL ANSWER?!! Ngakoue for sure!!
The options are not good. They are better off waiting to see which players are cut after June 01st.
Calais Campbell
How are the Lion's going to match up when they have to play Baltimore again?
Won't see Baltimore unless both make the Super Bowl, which is a fairly realistic outcome.
It was the second road game in a row, an out of conference game and we had many injuries at that time. They had just come off a big road win in Tampa the week before where they lost Monty early on. It’s a highlight of what would happen without both backs.
Ogba.
Although I am a big fan of the Lions' draft, it would have been awesome to get one of the three top pass rushers in the draft (Turner, Latu, or Verse). At this point, it most likely better to roll with what we have.
I don't see a DE appealing.
Trade for Trey Hendrickson and sign Tyler Boyd. Offseason done.
Tyler Boyd signed with the Chargers
@@carpe164 that was DJ Chark not Boyd
@@LionsLiveWireYT my bad-Boyd went to the Titans.
@@carpe164 he visited with the Titans, didn’t sign. Also didn’t sign with Chargers. Get your facts straight.
@@john_dough11 deal wasn’t final but all reports had Boyd with Tennessee…now officially a Titan.
Lawson played 5 games in 2023. NOPE. Yannick Ngakoue had some decent years - 10 & 14 sacks 2021 & 2022. - 10 year vet. Possible!
I’ll take yannick
Why isn’t Bruce Irvin on the list lol
I don't want any of these dudes.
These guys are all a big NOPE
This has to be a lazy journalist using dumb AI. I guarantee everything is on Brad's radar.
ALL $5.00 and under shopping. The Lions are 1 player from the SB and for what EVER REASON, they WON'T sign one.
