  • It took me quite a while to acquire a chuck and finish out the South Bend. There were a few elements I omitted from filming like the motor, rewiring, and safety cover repairs.
This entire project was done in parallel with a Monarch 10EE restoration project. Perhaps I will begin filming my 10EE escapades!

I love the sound clips in your videos. I love this lathe . I have a 1912 south bend 9" (I believe it was made in 1912) from the numbers I got off the top outside bed rail.

WOW , you certainly have my attention, you young man have a talent for doing a job properly what a lovely finish to a wonderful old machine , and you kept the paint colour simple, and in my opinion in keeping with the makers finish, some people paint there machinery white, bright red, yellow, iv even seen them blue , of course that is their choice .

Mulțumesc foarte mult! Am amintiri minunate despre cum l-am „ajut” pe tatăl meu în magazin. La fel vreau și pentru copiii mei. (Thank you very much! I have wonderful memories of "helping" my father in the shop. I want the same for my children.)

Very nice job, I'm in the process of restoring a Swedish clone, that is a couple of years newer.
Mine will also be grey, and with some modern equipment fitted.

Thank you! I just looked up SB clones and got a nice history lesson. I was surprised to find that there were several types.

Great Job. I have a 1947 9a Awesome lathes. Did you buy new felt and wicks or reuse the existing. When I rebuilt mine most of the felt was pretty good. I did however replace it all with new.

Thank you! I purchased a kit on eBay that had all new felt/wicks. I also picked up the belt from there too. The existing felt disintegrated and were totally unusable. I explored purchasing a sheet and cutting but thought that the math doesn't check out. In hindsight, perhaps I should have bought the sheet because I'll likely need to replace felts on the 10EE.
