      jmgmarcus He can throw some swing lines, fair warning...

      Monster bassist = playing what the song requires kipster... That being said, you obviously don't hear all those subtle little things Mickeal adds to a part that make the whole band sound better, as opposed to being an empty show off. Eddy Van Halen even said it him self, way back when he was in his right mind : "Michael is a damn good bass player : He plays bass, not guitar on bass"...

    • @jmgmarcus808
      @jmgmarcus808 5 лет назад +3

      kipster Absolutely, he rocked those eighth and quarter notes. He was half of one of the best rock rhythm sections of he late 70s and beyond. He's a living legend, one of the original VH. I'm sure your bass playing is more inventive though.

    It’s usually the understated guy who is the emotional lynchpin of a great band: Rick Wright, George Harrison, Tony Banks, Charlie Watts, Neil Peart, Jon Lord, John Paul Jones. Michael Anthony IS that guy in Van Halen. He’s a great lesson in teaching your kids, “having a voice is not always about how loud you shout”.

    • @markcoggins3278
      @markcoggins3278 6 лет назад +1

      Neil Tipton unfortunately Van Halen is a travisty at this Point.... 40th anniversary has basically came and gone without a burp....... They need Sammy and Michael.... David Lee Roth jerking them around only coming out when he wants, he cannot sing period, I've seen Van Halen 4 times. Once with DLR and Three times with Sammy, David Lees performance on the 84 tour sucked, couldn't hold a note to start with and is trying to do Rockets High kicks while doing splits and shaking his ass for a bunch of sluts on the front row.. Vowed I'd never see DLR again, even if it meant no EVH... And his playing and the music was tight so I was giving up a lot... Then the next thing I know after that tour they broke up and DLR left the band and I thought awesome, find someone who can actually fucking sing... Rumors float around about a female singer and then I hear the best news possible, Sammy Hagar was the new lead singer and they were almost through with their first studio album.... When 5150 was released I got one of the first copies and saw the first tour,. I knew it was going to be a great concert, I saw Sammy almost two years earlier on the VOA tour and he had a set of pipes and could scream a note just as well as he could sing it and that was the beginning of one of greatest song writing duos in Rock and Roll I saw Van Hagar twice more after that and each time was better than the last. Last time I saw them there was no indication anything was wrong there, they were tighter than ever and the songs they wrote for Balance had that tone I thought was maybe the elusive tone Ed had been searching for... Amsterdam... Come on DLR can't dream shit that good!!!! Eddie & Alex pull your head out of your ass and make a fucking pay check..

    Always been a HUGE fan of M.A. I saw VH on the 1984 tour at the Forum in LA. Michael played his bass solo and climbed to the top of the gear, above the drum kit, the sound was roaring, he was beating on the bass and then from the top of the gear, he threw his bass from the top to the bottom floor of the stage. For a second or two it was silence...When it hit the ground, that was the loudest thing I have ever heard in my life. I have seen top fuel dragsters. I could see the sound man diving for the faders on the mixing board. The arena was shaking so hard I thought the concrete was going to crack. I honestly thought it was going to literally bring the building down. The people around me were wide eyed looking at each other like "HOLY FUCK, THIS IS THE END!"

      Johnny Botts I think it should be bann halen or fuck van halen. I'm not familiar enough with van halen to be a fan but I've listened to a lot of trunk . like his style and wisdom in this music my favourite genre. and from what I'm picking up eddie seems to be a prick. as for hager and Roth I remember the classic that I first heard that I knew of vh is jump. I'm hearing Roth can't sing live but what he put on record is classic like jump. never liked hagers style this chicken foot are pure shit soap on a rope. when u consider the ability of satriani and maybe Anthony I don't rate that pepper drummer he is crap but as a band chicken foot to me are crap. I bought their first album expecting a masterpiece what a failure. And recently I found a show where satriani was in purple and he sounded better live than blackmore or morse ever did. richie wrote some classic stuff but never even tried to repeat it live just went of on whatever he felt like even though it didn't suit the song. long response but I have to get my opinion out. the eagles were sometimes critisised for being so much like there studio albums but that's because they were that good they could reproduce them. If u wrote a classic riff why play some shit that doesn't fit the song.

    Michael Anthony, the nicest guy in the rock n' roll business. Great player and singer. This whole debate about Eddie telling Michael what to play is made into a way bigger deal than it is. Reason being, is that the people debating are not musicians. Eddie doesn't just play palm muted power chords during the verse of the songs....he is always adding flavor to the song's main riffs...by having Michael simply chugging along playing 'do-do-do-do-do'/single string with the drums....it allowed Eddie to go wherever he wanted on the guitar..as long as he and Michael were in the same key. If Michael was doing some walking bass line during the solo and Eddie goes nuts improvising, the potential for it to sound bad is there.

    Love Van Halen....love MA but i don't why people say he took the high road? When Roth left VH in 1985, Eddie, Al, Mikey and Sammy were RELENTLESS in bad mouthing him (Roth) at EVERY opportunity. In my opinion, it was ROTH that took the high road. Yes, he occasionally had a dig at VH but no where near as much! Even in this interview, MA still has a dig at Roth when he says he was screaming over the music. Those first 6 (ROTH era) VH albums are absolutely phenomenal!! His singing was great for the style of music VH were writing. Totally underated! Just my opinion of course and i love Mikey.
    P.S MTV 1996 was about Dave let's be honest?

    It's got to drive Sammy and Mike crazy that all anyone wants to talk about with them is Van Halen. They are both wealthy and live lives that any of us would enjoy, but no one gives a fuck about anything they have done outside of Van Halen.

      Bob Walton ya know, he's the 1 guy who probably gets it. and is thankful for it. he talks in this interview about bands who never change & wear out.
      Mikey gets it.

    Class act all around. Great job Mikey. EVH is all about burning bridges, every person he parts ways with he can't do it without burning bridges. Heartley peavey, Valerie, sterling ball, kramer guitars... etc. he does have a successful guitar and amp line with Fender.... so thats kind of cool.

    Has Mike ever made a solo album? With his voice, it shouldn't be a problem.

    Nice guy under rated solid bass player and great vocalist. He was big part of the VH sound of course. I think his bass goofing around sometimes modestly over shadowed the technical great stuff he was playing generally

    Before Mike, there was only Geezer Butler. Then there was Mike... LOVED early VH, but Fair Warning zeroed me in! What AMAZING bass on that album!!

    Has everyone forgotten Patty Smyth was offered Sammy's job?
    Out of sheer morbid curiousity,I wish they would record an EP of Sammy songs with Patti singing.

    Great dude. Obviously happy with all he has done and been involved in, and still happy in spite of the weird booting from VH. He is smart enough to know what he can and cannot control, and controlling Ed and Al is not one of them. So why bother being bitter about it. Like they say, having hatred is like drinking poison, and expecting it to harm the other person.

    I mean I can see Dave wanting to do Jump, it was the only #1 hit he had. But all the Van Halen archive is incredible. RUclips has their shows from before 1974 and Dave carried a lot of water. I’m also a huge Sammy fan. I love those first 3 records. Balance not so much, you can tell the seams were frayed.

    There's a rule-of-thumb in the music business, its controversial, but it goes like this; if you want to change your fortunes with your band, you need to switch-out (1)member. Examples; Beatles switch out Pete and get Ringo, Poison changes out their guitarist and get C.C., and lastly, Van Halen switches out their bass player and get Michael. There are many more examples of this. If you have a band that has gotten 'stale', switch out a member and change your fortune!
