The Chicago-born American pianist, bandleader, and composer Charles Theodore "Charley" Straight (1891-1940) composed the novelty rag "Humpty Dumpty" in 1914. Straight was a Chicago-based composer, arranger, and pianist who was a partner in a vaudeville act with Gene Greene, the "Ragtime King." Straight's first piano rolls were recorded in 1914, and he later became the musical director of the Imperial Player Roll Company.
