Ted Powles was a very unusually built pilot for a Spitfire at 6 feet 4 inches tall. Photos of him in PS854 show the seat lowered to max and his head still rubbing the canopy roof. The day he was flying PS852 at 51,500 Feet, he got a cockpit pressure warning and entered a shallow dive to avoid any danger. Unfortunately, compressability soon set in and he only managed to fully regain control at 1,200 Feet. After the war it was calculated by the Air & Space Museum that he and Spitfire PR.XIX PS852 had achieved a maximum speed of Mach 0.96 or 715 Mph. The highest flight in a single engined piston fighter and the fastest speed in a single engined piston fighter. When he and his other squadron mate from 81 Squadron were recalled from Hong Kong to Singapore, they left PS852 and PS854 behind. Both were entered into service with the RHKAAF where the PR Blue overall paint was replaced with High Speed Silver and the Propellor Hub was painted Red and White. PS854 in particular looked rough as hell before the repaint and PS852 not much better...interesting painting challenge and accurate for the time of the record breaking flight.
Thank you for the additional information on Ted Powles & the record breaking flight of PS852. I hope anyone reading your comment will finding as fascinating as I have. Thanks for watching BTW!
A nice build, since I’ve already built a PR.XIX I might build another one as an earlier unpressurised version, it just requires the omitting of the small intake on the L/H engine cowling panel.

The way I paint my kits is some what simple. I use for the brushes synthetic nylon haired (or any soft brush). For large areas I use wide 1/2 inch brush flat head brush, smaller areas i use smaller sized round head or flat head brushes. In the case of painting aircraft kits first paint the underside from nose to tail, then from wing root to wing tip on the wings & stabilizers. usually I do 2-3 coats of thinned paint 60% to 70% paint to 40% to 30% thinner/ water . the same process is done on the topside as for the paints I love using Vallejo Model Color , Vallejo Game Color or The Army painter paint range. All those paints are very brush friendly. I sometimes use Tamiya Acrylics with their paint retarder (especially with their metallic, IJN or IJA colours). I hope this is of some help for you. I will be making a video on my paint methods in the near future, in the meantime you can check out Quick Kits video on brush painting
You did a great job with that build! It looks amazing :D
Thank you so much for your praises. Its much appreciated!
For me, a thin coat of gloss varnish over the whole thing would top that off nicely. About to start building this one myself soon
Watching the spitfire come to life was pleasure to my eyes amazing work 👍
Nice build and finish. This is a nice little kit from Airfix, built one a few months ago, finished it in the Swedish markings 😀
Thank you, the Swedish paint scheme for the PR XIX quite striking.

Very nice neat work. an excellently presented display of tradtional modelling methods. Well done.
Turned out nice .
Welldone
Thank You,
Great job. I think the first model kit I ever got was a Spitfire of some sort.
awesome, a great many people got into scale modeling by making a mighty spit

Great Idea , one can never have too many model spitfires in ones collection. Thanks for watching
Nice done, looks very well! ;)
Thank you for your kind words JedenSiedemDwa
Lovely Spitfire! Subbed.
thank you
Awesome new subscriber 😊 love the music the music box dance at the end
@Riley Hubbard thank you for your subscription & praises! Also I love the music box dance description for the model on the turntable!
If you haven't already checkout Spitfire 944, a great little documentary. Nice work.
I will have to check that out, Thanks for the recommendation.
How did he get the fuselages to combine after one press?!?! I have to hold mine together for 10 seconds minimum with a tight squeeze
Is this the older kit?
Excellently built and painted!
Thank you for your kind words. The kit itself dates back to 2009. The one I made is Airfix's recent re-issue of said kit.
What is the rationale for using the Vallejo Thinner Medium with the Tamiya Paints? What not Tamiya's own thinner or Alcohol?
Hello! Im new here! I saw you reply on my comment so i clicked on your chanell and i have to say your work is astonishing! :D

What’s your method for brush painting might I ask
